This really needs its own thread on OTW. -

In my mind AOC is a new pawn for the Democrats to use in the DC chess match. She is not getting played by the party now because she rubs donors such as Buffett, Zuckerberg, etc. the wrong way with her tax ideas. Somebody down the road in the DNC might decide that she is the perfect anti-Republican weapon with her green talk. It's not like I have consulted the Oracle of Delphi but something says not to sleep on AOC and what she represents. By the way the others you have mentioned only bring up points to call Republicans out on "fairness." I don't recall crazy Bernie speaking out on green initiatives never mind within our life time objectives relative to it. -

I would not make much of Pelosi's action. Pelosi no doubt got her orders from donors. In my mind this only helps AOC as she can develop a "it's them versus us" narrative. It won't help her this time but down the road a ways. -

Voting the party line is less important to younger people than issues. The people that voted the party line because of family history are fading away. AOC being in the limelight will bring out other like minded people into the public view. AOC does not mean much by herself but if next election cycle there are 10 more like her that signals a shift in national thinking. In 2016 we only had Bernie and in 2018 we had AOC plus the woman from Michigan with Bernie still around. Don't underestimate how urban people under the age of 35 view issues. Heck, I am old enough to remember when buying anything other than a Big 3 car was sacrilegious and got that person tons of scorn. Ain't that way no more and it's not all to do with quality. It's people being contrary to the thinking of the herd. -

I worry about AOC because there are a lot of people enamored with her. She loses the next primary then she will run as an independent and most likely win. It's more about her congressional district and how they evaluate issues than the primary process. If the DNC was smart they would scrape up a nice retirement package for AOC so she rides off into the sun when her term is up. -

She's only mocking it because AOC pisses off quite a number of DNC donors. She will shift like the wind if AOC and her like kind gain momentum in the party and in the elections. A lot of people flat out have no personal connection to maintain the status quo in the US. I am far far from a raving communist but concentrating the wealth in a country like the US only brings these people to the surface. Look at the "start" that the new session in Albany is off to with the reproductive health care "act." The votes may not be there in the future on the national level in terms of a high thresh hold on inheritance taxes. Within 5-10 years if AOC gains momentum I could see very little wealth carried from parents to children. -

Do you have to deal with dirtbags?

All I am looking to do is commiserate and perhaps give SIL some useful advice based on other people's experience in a similar situation. Dirtbag? That's not possible. -

I have to be very careful as to what I say but I will note that the SIL is an honorable woman just so there is no misunderstanding and somebody unanticipated storms onto this thread. -

Probably because it happens to a fair number of people I will say that it involves money, theft, and promises broken. Hubby has been out of the picture for a while now playing sperm donor for wayward whores. -

It is an awesome story but I don't want any blowback for the SIL. I'll brainstorm to see if I can figure out how to drop some tasty morsels. Right now I am a little overwhelmed with anger. -
The wife was in bed with me last night and the subject went to her sister. MY SIL has been saddled to her dirtbag inlaws for many years for a variety of reasons which I am not free to name here. It made me angry then sad to hear the latest saga as to how her inlaws are sticking it to her. I know that dirtbags don't give a darn as to their conduct but when it is so outrageous and affects so many it is amazing that they have not been run out of town. My SIL is not perfect but it's a good thing that I don't live in that town because there would be definite pushback.

Reps pushing back on Trump's NAFTA/USMCA
RochesterRob replied to BeginnersMind's topic in Politics, Polls, and Pundits
You just said successful for Ford, Chevy, and Dodge (it's Ram now by the way). Which is to say you expect that those three will be successful. Why say that and at the same time say that business will fall off drastically? Both can't be true can they? Clarify your thought process so I am not left to guess as to what your are trying to say. -

Welp, if you think that you can build a truck for less and not give yourself a return along with having money for R & D then be my guest. -
Democratic 2020 Presidential Primary Thread

No, that was already changing by the end of the 1960's. Not perfect but not blatant WTF this guy is not an American Indian either. Still had actors such as Ricardo Montalban play American Indian characters but with more respect versus bad stereotyping. -
Ruth Bader Ginsburg Has Fallen

For what Soros is paying him that works out to a penny per post. I'd go looking for work elsewhere but I guess there is something to be said for job satisfaction. -

She looks to be in good health for her age. I see the media saving her for 2024 as a "break glass in case of emergency" type candidate. Bernie will be sacrificed on the altar of "see, he really was a horrible candidate" in 2020. -

I know that people are tired of hearing about Hillary but don't rule her out until the registration deadlines pass. I don't want her but she has her massive ego to satisfy. -

She has very little name recognition. I don't see the super delegate counter going crazy in her favor. -
I was more of a Leo Sayer fellow when I wanted to be mellow. Not really. I guess that you would have to go AC/DC if you really wanted the alpha male experience. TNT. Like I said for the right woman I would have put up with a couple hours of something I really did not like. Not some idiot with nice measurements but the complete package with brains and drive. I always fell for the honor roll girls in high school.

The leaving a note tactic has not worked in a very long time unless you are known to have a lot of money. That aside he could not have worded his feelings any worse given the method of the message. "I've been watching you" is probably the worst way to go and will be interpreted by most as being creepy. If he was going to leave the card then just leave it without any text. If she wants in she will call and if not probably would have just thrown the card away without any further thought.

Buffalo is the 9th most liberal city in the US
RochesterRob replied to Another Fan's topic in Politics, Polls, and Pundits
Which is very sad. Liberals are supposed to be progressive but Buffalo in many ways is anything but progressive. Unless you want to make this 100 percent about personal choice. I would like to know how they arrived at that conclusion as well. -

RochesterRob replied to Another Fan's topic in Politics, Polls, and Pundits
The city, yes. The balance of Erie County and surrounding counties I would guess still lean Republican and/or Conservative. Just like the City of Rochester is very liberal and the congressional seat that serves the majority of it has been occupied by liberals such as the late Louise Slaughter. -
Agreed. Journey is not a fit with the Stones and Thorogood. The promoter no doubt was looking at MTV airtime and national sales and not considering the audience. I think Buffalo has been short changed a fair amount in this respect.
