  1. That's been the "catch all" argument for those whose ancestors did not participate in slavery and were white.
  2. I get the "while you are there aspect" but the region is already overloaded in terms of gambling options. Further, kids are kept away from other venues but is there going to be a firmly maintained age minimum to gain entry to such rooms? I won't oppose it but think we really don't need one more venue for it.
  3. Are you joking? You would have to be living in a cave to not know who Harris is based on all the MSM coverage in the last few months. The only way she could increase her presence is to go around and give free lap dances.
  4. And I would guess that there are millions of Hyacinth's running around the US trying to keep their uncouth relatives out of sight. Or trying to impress the upper crust of local society who could not give a crap about them. That is why you can do the same episode pretty much over and over again. Kind of like All in the Family which I love. What's Archie and Meathead going to argue over this week? Back to KUA the icing on the cake for me is when they all wind up over at the church helping the vicar while trying to avoid Hyacinth or Hyacinth gets stuck cleaning the toilets.
  5. Played by John Fiedler who was the voice of Piglet in Winnie the Pooh. Also, was one of Bob Newhart's patients on his first show.
  6. What if Jack is in fact a non-corporeal entity that jumps from corporeal host to corporeal host as theorized by a certain Sci-Fi series? That possibility although way out there makes me sleep better than thinking about a person who is extremely messed up mentally.
  7. I think that I would rather see if Uncle Bruce Matthews was willing to suit up for us at OT.
  8. I can't get too down on Ralph wanting a positive bottom line over the years. It was the only way Ralph was going to be a part of the NFL long term. Ralph could see as a younger man during the 1970's the league evolving into an entity where ownership would be dominated by those that could own a team as a rich person's hobby. It would not be possible given Ralph's other comparatively meek ventures that he could stay in as an owner if teams were run at a loss to buy top shelf coaches and players. People here would say "damn Ralph's passion for paintings and horses. I would move to Buffalo and buy a house next to the stadium so I could put every spare penny into the team." The trouble is that any one of us here after walking a few miles in Ralph's shoes might feel different about the team in terms of approaching it with a fan's point of view. They would most likely say that "I should be entitled to some personal reward for the work that I have performed in terms of building the league up." The Bills have had talent other than Kelly or Bledsoe over the years but it takes a special talent to make it a NFL QB. Todd Collins had the physical tangibles and knew the playbook but he could never lead the team. Losman could relate to his offensive teammates and chuck a ball but could not read the tougher NFL defenses. I see people beefing about younger QB's that only a couple years ago they were complaining that the Bills missed out on those same players and therefore were incompetent. Being a Star Trek fan I can only think about Commodore Stone's quip to James T Kirk as Kirk was about to face court martial. "You and I have done something that very few men have done prior which is to command a starship." Which is to say if being a QB was easy as plucking one off of a tree and running him through a class then every NFL team would have a franchise QB. But we should know that is not the reality of it.
  9. NY Mafia did not deal in drugs years ago due to the Rockefeller Laws which imposed steep penalties including lengthy jail sentences. Running numbers and bookmaking were staples of the mob income. But since the state governments got into the lottery business and sports gambling being recognized by more and more states the mob had to turn to other high volume money making enterprises to support them.
  10. As far as restaurant soups go I like most of what Panera Bread offers and in particular the Chicken Noodle and the Tomato. At home there is very little that I do not like. Split pea with ham, tomato, homemade vegetable beef. People mentioned chowders and I have a recipe for corn-kidney bean chowder with ground beef. So much better when sweet corn from the garden or stand is in season.
  11. Sporting the Ralph Wiggum. No, he IS Ralph Wiggum!
  12. Some people want to believe that 5 time All Pro's heading into their sixth season are lining up to sign with Buffalo and will not field any other offers. That they will sign for little over the vet minimum as well. That they have no health concerns and can play until age 50 to boot.
  13. The Steelers might have set a general deadline but that is where this hypothesis runs out of gas. In this situation it is open bidding just like an auction. If somebody fields what Pittsburgh thinks is a fair offer then they might call Beans and say "We just got offered X, can you do Y?" The key word here is might. They could just as easily say to the other bidder "done and done." If the need and fit are great enough I would think that any team would get over the cat and mouse game to take care of its needs. Hopefully, your OP was meant to be tongue and cheek.
  14. In 2002 I was looking at the free agent market. I along with some of my friends were ranking all potential free agents based on their abilities. Sage Rosenfel was last on that list. See how that works, Sage?
  15. As I said recently don't count her out until the stroke of midnight election day 2020 and the votes officially have her ruled out. She no doubt fantasizes while laying in bed about the panicked phone call from the DNC around Easter of next year begging her to run. Probably working better for her than even the Hitachi.
  16. The MWC spinoffs died with the notion of Ed O'Neill not wanting to do anymore MWC material and Katey not seeing the vision for her Peggy character. O'Neill quipped once that he would play Al for five minutes of screen time only to show he was laying in a coffin and therefore dead. Just not enough material to do the adventures of Bud Bundy. Batman '66 I would like to see new material. Hollywood has already told us that there are no sacred cows in terms of portrayals when it comes to Batman. At its best the original 1960's Batman series provided good commentary on contemporary society such as with the Joker pop art episode or the Penguin running for mayor episodes. Two ideas that were so strong that they were the ones to relaunch the franchise when Tim Burton was involved. They also knew how to write for actors such as Frank Gorshin who was allowed to use his impressionist background in the "Death in Slow Motion/ The Riddler's False Notion" episodes. Batman '66 could be done as an adult series much as a lot of the material was during the 1960's.
  17. Market forces have as a cornerstone competitive pricing. Fossil fuels are entrenched because they are the most economical and reliable to the consumer. Alternative energy for heating homes has been around for decades but not widely caught on because the initial investment was sky high therefore out of reach for the ordinary American or was not reliable. Bid on a bundle of Popular Science magazines on Ebay from the 1960's and 1970's and you will see what I mean.
  18. 10-15 trillion by far is the lowest estimate I have heard on this idea. I still would bet on 100 trillion or close to it.
  19. I'm not seeing how Vietnam, Malaysia, etc. were being bought where they were not aligned before. Care to elaborate?
  20. So Gloria gets a whole lot more conservative? Too bad Mike Evans (Lionel) is long gone.
  21. I don't know if it is intentional but you are leaving out the single biggest issue of that will take nearly 100 trillion dollars to do in a short period of time which will create hardship and financially destabilize a broad section of the population.
  22. If it was a defense deal then it was a pretty bad one by my estimate. The only country that you are attempting to buy favor from being China continues to ramp up its military. A glaring example being island building in the South China Sea. The only reason to build islands is to establish a defense perimeter against American forces by making US carriers vulnerable hundreds of miles off of the Chinese mainland.
  23. Even your boy Chuck Schumer admitted that certain powers in Asia greatly disproportionately benefitted by never paying for the technology they reproduced. Are you telling me that you no longer will be a good DNC soldier by backing Chuck up?
  24. Part of free trade is proprietary material being properly compensated for by the users of that same material.
