And having read that I will say long live Ross (Dolphins), Johnson's (Jets), Snyder (Redskins) who will hang like an albatross around their teams' necks. And I think it is fair to criticize the owners in a number of cases. I know it is obvious to most but it is more than a case of trotting Ralph out on the stage back in the day and pointing to him. Teams fail for more reasons than an owner being cheap. Bud Adams would have had far more success in Houston and his team might still be playing there if he was not so mentally erratic.

Democratic 2020 Presidential Primary Thread
RochesterRob replied to snafu's topic in Politics, Polls, and Pundits
I think that the VP nominee will be someone that most Americans never heard of. Dismiss it as Clinton paranoia if you must but just hearing her name mentioned along with the Clintons would give most people pause. The notion of only being a heartbeat away from the Presidency in that context has to be extremely unsettling. -

My stats professor at Cornell always warned that many who take polls also have agendas. And this was many years ago when the 24 hour news cycle was in its infancy. -
Have the Bengals become anyone's 2nd favorite team?
RochesterRob replied to Another Fan's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I never liked the Bengals. I don't really have another team that I root for. There are teams that I never want to win and teams that if they win it does not bother me. The Steelers used to be a team I did not mind if they won as long as it did not negatively impact the Bills but now I just don't want them to have any success. When the franchise in Houston was the Oilers I did not mind if they won as long as it directly did not hurt the Bills. They were another hard luck franchise like the Bills were at many times that I sympathized with. But anymore it's the Bills and nobody else. I don't even keep track of Green Bay even though I don't hate them. -

The Growth Mindset Culture of Coach McDermott

The problem for a long time was Ralph. A great guy but he could be his own biggest problem in terms of having a successful team. Ralph is gone and the Pegula's had to take their lumps to be able to settle on a direction for the team. Being a NFL owner is not something you can go to college for so the Pegula's had to endure the school of hard knock's aka Doug and Rex. At this point in time it looks like the Pegula's have learned what a good front office and coaching staff is not. -

Does one skip or prance while in fantasy land?

There were not many Patriot fans inside of Boston years ago. During my college days which included the Bears-Pats SB many Boston area people I knew were meh about the Pats. As a matter of fact two of my housemates during that SB who were from Boston did not even bother watching the game. The pecking older has always been Sox-Bruins-Celts-Pats. The Bruins and Celts really being 2A and 2B as opposed to a clear 3 in fan appreciation.

If Singletary is hurt... trade for Gordon
RochesterRob replied to rayray808's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I think that this team believes in its ability to get maximum value out of its picks meaning they believe they can get better value out of the draft. I don't see them offering a number 1 to put a Band-aid on a position during the season. If Beane needs a back or OL he will probably find someone that can be had for a lower pick. Even if that player has a lot of mileage on him or has not performed to this point. I think that the only way Beane offers up a number 1 is there is a guy who has been playing just a few years and appears to grow into an All Pro. -
Rich Gannon: not a great color guy

I had reception issues but caught most of the 4th quarter. I thought I was watching a FOX telecast as it seemed the game was being worked for the Giants in terms of commentary. Only in the last few minutes when the game was out of reach for the Giants did Gumbel and Green talk about the Bills' positives. -
There is a real fear on the left that Trump will win re-election in 2020. The denial demonstrated via framing the 2020 election as the same as the 2016 election is very evident by our lefty posters. I said it yesterday here and will say it again is the stock market has performed, unemployment is down in most areas, and no new wars will be issues that a Democratic candidate can't ignore in terms of giving Trump his due. You're right in that no young progressive voter is salivating over Biden. I still think that they are willing to let 2020 go in order to begin a reshaping of the party. Sometimes when the woods is choked with deadwood it is best to take a match to it in order for the new growth to emerge. That is the mindset of the young progressive Democrat.

The 2020 election will not be the same as the 2016 election so the dynamics will be different. The stock market is up and in many areas unemployment is down. Trump has not started any new wars. The 2020 Dems nominee will have to talk on how they will trump Trump in those respects. 2016 was the Dems best window for holding the Presidency through 2020 and they let Clinton run roughshod over the party. Most likely because she had dirt on anybody that mattered. Bernie's "I don't give a damn about your E-mails" line told any thinking American that the outcome of the nomination process was already predetermined. These same Americans will have to wonder given Biden's health that the Democratic Party if the finger is once again being placed on the scale in favor of Biden.

I'll say the following on UBI. It should not be offered as a crutch for those who want to lay on the sofa all day. However, if technology advances as some have predicted it could soon affect highly educated fields such as lawyers and doctors. We could very well see the future of medicine similar to what is on Star Trek. Machines and AI to guide them to do diagnosis and surgery as necessary. Already, some types of surgery are already being done via robots. The bottom line is that in the next twenty years we will only need to graduate a fraction of the students we see today enrolled in law school, medical school, engineering, etc.. So I don't know that UBI will only become important to those who were banking on a career chasing carts or stocking shelves at Walmart. From an economic standpoint the future could look like one those SF movies from years ago where a large percentage of society are idle individuals.

It's a Doomsday Machine! In all seriousness if we accept the idea that our solar system is slightly over 4.5 billion years old and therefore neighboring systems the same that debris could travel from one system to the next over that time period. Would not need FTL propulsion but just endure a great period of time such as a billion years. -
This just in, erectile dysfunction may predict strokes
RochesterRob replied to Cripple Creek's topic in Off the Wall Archives
Jokes aside sex is an excellent stress reliever and when you can not perform sexually you are a pressure cooker waiting to blow which can come in many forms. So I am not surprised and do not consider it s stunning revelation. The only thing I would add is that some men are most likely more prone to have a stroke than others so it is not a given that if ED is an issue for a man it is not automatic that he is on a path to a stroke. I do think that being active sexually leads to overall better emotional health stress aside.
