Will the Stadium Stay in Orchard Park? Hear me out
RochesterRob replied to Hammered a Lot's topic in Off the Wall Archives
I remember them mentioned often in the old education films that they showed in school complete with a motion projector. This would have been back in the 1970's along with the notion that everybody being able to buy a new spacious house working 10 hours per week. -

One additional thing for the people who do want concessions while outside of the stadium the Pegula's and the NFL stand a better chance of profiting if in OP versus a downtown walking district where anybody can compete with them. That might be part of the reason the Pegula's are buying property in the neighborhood of the stadium. -

That is entirely offset by the concept that WNY'rs know what snow is and are far more able to handle than their Southern counterparts. Either concept not being overly relevant to the traffic situation of a stadium in Buffalo fitted into an area that previously did not know 10,000's of thousands vehicles trying to cross it in the period of a couple of hours. Putting a stadium downtown near the lake eliminates a western outlet as the lake effectively blocks the way. Sure you can change the roads but then you are back to spending the lion's share of 100 million due to actual cost plus environmental studies, lawsuits, and eminent domain. Last thing first in that your horse and buggy analogy is not very apt. I am not looking to stop progress but trying to make sure that there is a circuit breaker in place for engineers who are good for the task in front of them but have no other vision. Plenty of morons who sit in front of computer screens as well. -

Unless you mandate no more human drivers there will be many variables for a computer to analyze every second without the ability to predict human behavior. Will the kid running towards the street chasing a baseball stop because he sees an oncoming vehicle or will he be so fixated on the ball that he completely misses it? Who is liable if the computer controlled car stops within two car lengths and is rear ended but the kid ultimately pulls up ten feet from the street edge? The driver of the trailing car will most likely seek damages to his vehicle due to the computer incorrectly reacting to the kid in that driver's mind. He will contact an attorney who will go after the deeper pockets of the computer controlled car whether justified or not and avoid the snare of trying to blame a kid in court which is socially unsavory. -

I think that you are being way overly optimistic. Multi-lane highways have the advantage of spreading vehicle distance out. You can cram them together but what happens when one car hits a deer if the trailing vehicles are no more than two lengths away from one another? What happens if a traffic light malfunctions? Sucks when there are flawed humans on the roadways but most can immediately analyze a variety of changing factors. I don't think that automatic driving functions are where they need to be at in less than optimal situations. Outletting towards I-90 Exits 55 & 56 at OP is no small consideration. They are additional relief valves for traffic coming out of OP that will not be there in the city along with US 20. Any traffic engineers on here like there were on the old BBMB? -

I don't see commute time changing much due to user error no longer in the equation. What human error could happen in terms of route running down 98 from Batavia to Arcade? Further, efficiency will be challenged if the user elects to make random stops along the route. We all have impulses including stopping for coffee and a donut or a run to the restroom because we can't hold it until we reach our destination. Will the automated vehicle allow for this as by your premise that vehicle has many tightly timed tasks scheduled for the day? -

Does not work that way. The Ford family would have set up shop here (if Ford Motor Co was established in Buffalo) and most likely established a NFL franchise prior to the AFL. The AFL most likely would have not wanted to place a franchise in Buffalo with that consideration. It could have been us suffering since 1957 with decades long futility induced by William Clay Ford. -

Good thing that we told Henry to take a hike or we would have been stuck with the Lions or whatever they would have been called here. -

Not owning a vehicle might be possible in an area with extensive public transportation options but is not going to work for the person who has to commute from Batavia to Arcade and back 5 times per week plus go get groceries and do all the other business in life. I don't see this as a wide spread option in WNY. -

Yes, yes, and yes. Susan strikes me as being quite accommodating if you know what I mean. -

They will proceed in their own way. In fair weather and nothing going on for the rest of Sunday and an easy day on Monday people will not be too deterred. At the same time I would bet that it will affect the decisions of a number of people to purchase seats if the experience is not to their liking in the better going. If I am not happy with getting in and out on a slow day in September I doubt I will buy seats for a meh opponent at a time when snow and ice can be expected. -

Unless you are accustomed to public transportation a person is not going to readily adapt to it. That is the difference between Yankee stadium which is in a metropolitan area that makes great use of public transportation and Western New York where most people drive their own vehicle to get to where they want to go. -

Parking and roadways being redone will cost tens of millions of dollars. I know somebody connected with the state Thruway Authority and it cost millions just to double lane existing exits and entrances at exit 41 for Del Lago Casino. Fire fighting, law enforcement, and utilities have been right sized for Orchard Park in terms of when New Era is hosting a NFL game. All that will have to be replicated if placed elsewhere. How much more property tax do Erie County residents want to pay for the bragging rights of having a new stadium within the Buffalo city limits. Not many I would guess and don't look for Albany Andy to help with state dollars. -

A better description would be adding 2-3 hours or more cumulatively for the drive time for many going to the north or east of downtown. It would be far more than just deploying a couple dozen cops to the nearest blocks of the stadium. -

I'm one of what I would guess to be many who are happy to have the stadium in the immediate vicinity of Buffalo. I still believe when the time comes the new stadium will be in OP but think there is a chance of downtown or up near I-90 in NE Erie County. If Rochester and Syracuse were double or triple their current population then a better argument exists to put it closer to Rochester. -

The support infrastructure is already in place at OP including utilities, fire fighting, and law enforcement to name a few. Roadways are adequate if not ideal. To redo all this downtown will most likely run 100M plus which I don't see anybody coughing up the money for. -
Cultist? Project much? I'm interested in how you can have your head up Biden's ass and Warren's ass and Soros' ass and whatever lib flavor of the week all at the same time.

I wonder how many hours of ego massaging went on to get Hillary to realize that Chelsea can't run for POTUS in 2020 based on her "accomplishments" to date? -

Chelsea : "I want my children to know the life that myself and my parents enjoyed. One of grabbing an entity and shaking it down until it holds nothing of value. Where white collar crime goes unpunished and is even rewarded. Crime for which no punishment is ever handed out. This is the America I envision and will work towards. The microphone was not on was it.........?" -

My understanding is that there are few blocks constructed on a studio lot to simulate NYC and preexisted Seinfeld. But that is not to say that they didn't do some tweaking and fine tuning for Seinfeld. -

As I understood it Seinfeld used the exterior of an actual NYC eatery (Tom's) to be the place where Jerry & Co hung out. Whether the set made for Monk's would correspond to the layout of Tom's I don't know. As to the Full House house/set yes it would be a project similar to the Brady house but as you noted there are big problems in trying to do that.
