The talk about all the pre-snap motion, RBs/TEs lining up out wide, WRs lining up in the backfield, etc. has me feeling hopeful about the direction this offense is headed in for the first time maybe in my life (I was too young to really know what was going on during the Kelly years).

Which WR Will Lead The Bills In Receiving Yards?
DCOrange replied to Phil The Thrill's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I voted Beasley but I would guess it'll be him or Zay. I think Foster and Brown will eat into each other's snaps/targets too much to lead the team. Beasley has the most ironclad role on the team so I'd lean towards him but we'll see. I don't expect any of them to be particularly productive volume wise but think they could be a decent unit regardless. -
RD 3, Pick 74: RB Devin Singletary, Florida Atlantic
DCOrange replied to SDS's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Yeah, he only had 6 catches all year so I believe it works out to 6 catches and 4 drops. I believe he was dead last among the 83 draft-eligible RBs in terms of drops and yards per route run. -

This is all PFF metrics; 3rd row down is Singletary -
I tend to think this isn't a big loss. Anyways, best of luck to him. I hope he can find a role for himself in the NBA.

Sweet. I split an Athletic subscription with a few friends of mine to keep the individual cost done and it's well-worth it for us.

Again, this is based on Super Bowl Odds in Vegas. Until the games get played and Buffalo hopefully isn’t terrible, they’re going to be mocked at the top of the draft.

How do you feel about the Bills right now in 2019?
DCOrange replied to Another Fan's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I don’t know that this is the year it pays off, but this roster is shaping up to be very good relative to the past decade of Bills teams. Still not all that confident it turns into a winning record or playoff football, but if Allen takes a big leap in year 2, I think that’ll be enough to get there. I’m just not ready to assume that improvement even if I like him a lot as a prospect. -
Their draft order is based on Vegas’ super bowl odds. It has nothing to do with how good they think each team is.
-
If I remember correctly, those were the CBS and PFF mocks. CBS is notoriously terrible with their draft coverage. PFF is good but at that point in the process, their mocks are (I think) based on what they would personally do; not what they believe teams will actually do. And as I mentioned throughout the year, this year's WR class was insanely deep. For awhile, people had Johnson pegged in the 5-10 range as far as WRs go while others had him outside the top 25 WRs. Eventually almost everyone moved him down into the 20's.
-
I kinda understand it. The Z and slot spots are pretty well stocked at this point and this draft was pretty weak on X guys after DK Metcalf. I still would have liked to take one, but it’s not the end of the world.
-
Hodge’s limitations are even worse IMO. Linebacker that runs a slower than 5 second 40 is death.
-
Interesting they felt the need to trade up with him and Risner both on the board. OLine is nowhere near as deep as WR in this draft, so it makes sense from that perspective despite my love for DK.
-
I'm fairly certain that this year's mock will end up being the best, which would make him #1 two of the past three years, and Walter was like #2 or #3 the one year that Charlie wasn't the best. Their website is an atrocity to read and Walter is a terrible person, but Charlie Campbell has some serious connections in the NFL.
-
FWIW, considering Charlie Campbell got a crazy 11 picks right last night (without even attempting to guess at trades for that matter), for tonight he has Buffalo taking Riley Ridley at 40 and Yodny Cajuste at 74. Has 4 WRs being taken in the 33-39 range before it gets to us.

Albright when asked where DK goes...
DCOrange replied to *******'s topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
As much as the Ole Miss offense didn't help DK to develop his skills, it was a picture perfect fit for AJ Brown. They basically had DK and Lodge going deep every play, and they both demanded safety attention, so it allowed AJ a ton of space over the middle of the field to work, and with his body, he was a mismatch for basically every nickel back in college. I think he could be utilized similarly in Buffalo with the speed that we have on the outside, but I also think that the space that we should have over the middle will make it relatively easy to plug-and-play in the slot rather than investing multiple 2nd round picks (AJ, Zay) and free agent dollars (Beasley) in that spot. As low as I am on Zay, I think he can do a lot of what AJ would do here. Having said that, I wouldn't be surprised if McBeane value AJ more than I do; he's just not really a guy I'm personally interested in. -

I have a weird feeling that we take a safety. Can't help but think it's kind of weird that we brought Chauncey Gardner-Johnson and Juan Thornhill in for official visits and those two are both perfect fits in this defense in the same way that Micah Hyde was/is and Hyde's contract has an out at the end of this season. -
Albright when asked where DK goes...

DK is roughly 1-2 years younger than most of the other WR prospects; he was just 19 when he put up those 650 yards. That's very rare; ranked in the 72nd percentile of NFL receivers in terms of his breakout age. So while the numbers itself aren't that big (besides this most recent season when he was on pace for over 1000 yards), he's shown promise at a younger age than most of the other guys in this class. Combine that with his size/speed, ability to beat press coverage (which might be the best in the class), and his sheer acceleration (most big guys that are fast take awhile to get up to top speed, whereas his 10-yard split relative to his size is the best we've seen in at least a decade), and you have as good a deep threat as we've seen in quite some time who also has two years to catch up to his peers in the categories that he's currently lacking in. And in the case of the Bills specifically, there's very few WRs in this draft that make sense as a fit in the X spot in the offense. It's basically DK, Harmon, Arcega-Whiteside, Boykin, and then a guy like Jamal Custis late on Day 3, so he fits a need that very few other WRs can fit while also being a very good prospect regardless of fit IMO. -

The thing is, nobody on our team really makes sense lining up on the line of scrimmage. Brown, Beasley, and Zay in particular are pretty much only effective if they can line up off the line so that they can't be pressed. I'm not really sure about Foster off the top of my head; I remember him beating press at least sometimes but I don't know how often that really was. DK is maybe the best in the draft class at beating press coverage. So while he's a deep threat like Brown/Foster are, he brings something to the table that nobody on the team is currently capable of (besides maybe Foster; like I said, I'm not sure about him). -

Literally all of those teams besides maybe Oakland could easily justify taking a WR. -
My guess would be that they sit back at 40 and let a good player fall to them, though I think I've made it pretty clear by now that I personally would want to move up for DK.While my top 5 WRs are all still available, he's the only one that I think is a no-brainer starter from Day 1 (assuming his medicals have checked out) simply because there's no real competition as the X receiver. They can take someone like Deebo Samuel, who I personally have as the #2 WR in the draft, and he might be able to line up as the X, but he's on the smaller side as far as X's go and most seem to think he makes more sense in the slot where he'd be competing with Beasley and Zay for playing time. Likewise for AJ Brown, who isn't in my top 5, but very well may be in Buffalo's.At the end of the day, guys that without diving into it too much would seemingly fit needs are (in order of their draft grade on NFL.com:1. Jawaan Taylor 2. DK3. Greedy4. Parris Campbell5. AJ Brown 6. Cody Ford 7. Dalton Risner 8. Deebo Samuel 9. Byron Murphy10. Chauncey Gardner-Johnson11. Irv Smith 12. Rock Ya-Sin 13. Greg Little14. Juan Thornhill15. Jaylon FergusonGuys in bold are the ones that I think at least loosely would be a good fit, though like I mentioned, AJ Brown and Deebo aren't perfect fits the way DK is.I would think that Buffalo is very, very high on Risner, Byron Murphy, Irv Smith, Rock Ya-Sin, and Jaylon Ferguson in particular. I don't think we should really be taking a corner this high, but Murphy and Rock are basically perfect fits for McDermott's defense so I don't think they can be written off.
