***OFFICIAL WORLD CUP 2010 THREAD***
Britbillsfan replied to ajzepp's topic in Off the Wall Archives
I'm only going to bother with the England games (whilst down the pub and where the noise is drowned out anyway by the cheering/booing/swearing/etc). Those things just give me a headache and without any sound loses all the atmosphere with the game. Freaking things. -

Same thing happened with the Italia 90 goal when Italy scored vs England. As a result it is a rule the English are very aware of... -
I was wondering to what you guys were refering to. Gad! Watched part of the England friendly today and they were awful. Fortunately I'll be watching the England games at the pub and even that din is likely to be drowned out by the crowd there.

No European team has ever won outside of Europe. Argentina has managed a win in Mexico, Brazil won in Sweden, USA and Korea/Japan. (This is from memory).
-
And Joe Cole. Possibly our most technicaly gifted player (Rooney is pretty close), but one who has always played out of position throughout his career. Mind you we lost our captain to injury for the tournament today, which is about par for the course for an England fan. Gah!

David Niven was ex-Special Forces, BTW. So maybe that really is a bad ass moustache...

In WWI it was the British blockade which ended Prussian resistance. Their last successful attacks had their troops stop as soon as they hit anywhere with food dumps to eat and get more food. It was seriously bad. Over a million Germans died of malnutrition as a result of the blockade and the anger this generated was one of the (multitude of) reasons that we had to go through even worse **** in WW2. The WWI subs were too few and had very short legs so were not all that effective overall. As for WW2, well everyone did their part. The Soviets, US and UK all played vital roles. Without one of these Hitler would have most likely won in Europe.

Most of the problems are things which happened prior to the crisis. His actions subsequently? Who knows. The jury is still out on tht but I think he is probably getting a pass. (As an example: he switched the oversight of banks from the Bank of England to the FSA (Financial Services Authority). The former knew what they were doing, the latter not. Rather bizarrely any pay rises to FSA people overseeing the banks were mostly dependent on reports from the banks! Like that was not going to be a recipe for disaster.)

No Choice. Several reasons: 1. Judged as a uselss tosser by the electorate. 2. Even if he could form a coalition with the lib dems he would still form a minority government. To get a majority gov't he would have to include all sorts of minor parties, including ones which want to split the UK (Scots, Irish, Welch parties) 3. Despite the difficulty in forming a govt he was not willing to offer as much as the Conservatives to the LKib Dems 4. See point 1. ((To be fair he and Blair did do some good things, but their policies have made the UK far weaker economically than it needed to be, especially during the current economic crisis)).

US aid in the Falklands War was pretty vital. And this was given despite the fact that Argentina was an American friend and the US did not really want to piss off friendly S American nations.
-
I doubt it. Chances are one of the tiny parties will be needed (or more), which mean really small groups will be able to hold the rest of the nation to ransom (so just what the UK needed then...). Personally I can see a Lib/Lab/SNP/PC/Green alliance, a collapse and a backlash against these with a new election in six months. And that is a best case scenario. Mind you the one thing the UK can take away from this election is that no matter for whom anyone voted for we can all wallk away from the election thoroughly disappointed.

Yeah, my grandfather was one of the guys who went into Belsen at the end of the war, so I really loathe deniers.
-
I loathe Nick Griffin and his fascist tossers. Obnoxious thugs and lowlifes.

Who the hell knows. Tories need about a 6.5% swing, but the swings are all over the place. 13% to take one seat they thought they had zero chance to get. 0% on one they thought they should have. Most interesting election I have seen.

Frakkin' hope not. Those things are precarious historically. And we need a strong gov't given the mess Blair/Brown have made of UK finances (projected to be the most dire in Europe by the end of the year by the ECB - yep, worse than Greece...). If my career takes off maybe I can emigrate somewhere. Oz is nice...

Schoolkids disappointed when Patriots don't show up
Britbillsfan replied to bobcat's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Meanwhile, Bills fans everywhere stay disappointed after their team fails to show up for ten consecutive years... -
Or Fred Jackson... (Although I do mostly agree with your comment, on occassion a player will step up).

A major change that nobody is mentioning....
Britbillsfan replied to Bronc24's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Bell was alwas a three year project, given how raw he was coming out of college. He was thrust into the line up too early last year with predictable consequences. I guess the coaches might be thinking he may just have the talent necessary and with another year may be able to provide something like a decent level of play. Same with RT. Promising project player ended up starting a year too early. Of course they could both end up sucking big time and we could end up screwed, but at this point we do not know for sure one way or another. I, for one, am glad we drafted some proper 3-4 players for the new 'D', as things stood the Bills had a bunch of 4-3 linemen, most of whom will not fit in the new scheme. I do not expect a miraculous turn around, but one can always hope (after all, as a fan, that is all I can really do). -
Perhaps they were waiting to see what trade offers they could get?

Alotta terrorism lately in Russia, eh folks?
Britbillsfan replied to Bad Lieutenant's topic in Politics, Polls, and Pundits
Oh. Dear. Don't get out much do you? Most of Europe has fair and free press. (Excluding Russia, Italy (where the president literally owns most of the media) and some of the ex-Soviet republics). Last time I checks Oz and NZ had pretty good press too. S Africa has had a tradition of press that criticised the govt, even in the Apartheid era. Indian press is not too shabby either (the congress party largely lost its automatic right to national govt thanks to press coverage of number of scandals). -
I got fed up with walking through the woods and seeing all these fungi knowing that wild mushrooms were supposed to be great but not knowing which. Bought a guide book, learnt how to spot the deadly ones (which, as it turns out, are very similar to normal edible mushrooms) and then went and tried all the local edible ones. Quite a few were pretty bad but a couple are just wonderful. Never found a giant puffball, although we do get them. Seen some awesome recipes for them I would love to try out one day. Do not get 'death balls' around here.
