  1. Poster is wrong. You can quite happily kill an intruder in your home in the UK. There are limitations (eg: you can not knock someone out, tie them up and then go have some fun with a knife/golf club/chainsaw) but UK law allows for self defence. But only self defence (and protecting your property from an intruder does come under that). You do not get shootouts in the UK (especially since the PIRA and other Irish gangs have curtailed their murderous activities) because there are so few guns, although in some cities there are gangs with access it is not even a real issue in most places and burglars do not have them.
  2. Eric Robert Rudolph. Was arrested in May 2003 in N Carolina after being on the top ten wanted for some time. Freak also bombed a gay bar and some abortion (Georgia and Alabama) clinics including leaving secondary devices for the emergency services and also killed a police officer in one of the other bombings.
  3. Rubbish. You are quite able to kill an intruder in your own home legally in the UK. You will be questioned and a file sent to the DPP but it is very very rare for a case to be made except in extreme cases. And are allowed to protect yourself (or others) elsewhere. The tabloids like to make a song and dance about it, but the law in the UK is based on what is a reasonable response. Braining or stabbing and intruder in your home is almost always acceptable with very few exceptions (if you chase someone out of your home and halfway down the street and then kill them you will be in trouble, for example). Sentence for a POS with that kind of record is terribly light, though.
  4. I prefer LA but would have had no complaints if Fargo had won as it is a great movie as well.....but was not Fargo the year before (1996 not 1997)?
  5. I agree the movie was pretty bad and all over the place, but I also think Pacino in his role was superb.
  6. If dragged along to it......Titanic 'won' a major poll in the UK for worst movie EVER, whilst I will not go that far, it did not really deserve a nomination for best film, let alone win the damn thing.
  7. Whilst Titanic was a sentimental weepie, nice score & effects and made lots of $s, and had a truly fuggin awful script. Dialogue like that can win an oscar? Ugh again.
  8. Titanic over LA Confidential.......ugh
  9. Similarly Rugby was derived from Soccer. So ultimately without soccer - no NFL.
  10. Zuchini, Onions, Tomatoes, Potatoes, Strawberries, Chard, Cucumbers, Peppers, Runner Beans, French Beans, Carrots, Sprouting Broccoli, Salad Onions, Radish, Rhubarb, Parsnips, Snails. My little garden keeps me in veg for most of the year.
  11. A middle aged man might want to spend the rest of his life with someone who was not emotionally immature and as dumb as a rock. Besides there is always the light switch........
  12. The marriage of the heir to the throne is a matter of state (ie: has implications for the country on the whole. Not just the happy couple), and in this case would need both the permission of the sovereign (queen) and her government. Things have moved on a bit since the 1930s so such permission was not a major issue as it was back then. Also Edward tried to force his will on the government, and a constitutional monarch can not force the government's hand in anything, so he had to go (had he had less arrogance and a little patience/diplomacy he may have kept the throne and Mrs Simpson.
  13. Very admirable individual and a good man. A true champion.
  14. Misread the title to this and thought it said Emmitt a little shellfish ......bloody Spongebob thread messing with my mind.....
  15. The current regime will not last out Bush's current term IMO. It is pretty questionable if Kim is still in charge, no new footage of him on NK Tv for two years (just old stuff). The regime has been going down the dunny for the last 14/15 years since the USSR folded and is about to finally get flushed.....of course the next regime will probably be more old commie scum, but would not reckon on them lasting too long either.
  16. 92%, 23 miles. Well chuffed.
  17. I though all American beer was lite.....(j/k) Will not touch the stuff. Would rather order a glass of milk from the bar than something as foul tasting as a lite beer. Ugh.
  18. As far as Hubbard being an average or so-so Sci-Fi writer I would disagree. His novels were as worthless as the religious scam he founded to make himself very rich. (In one novel a set of nukes are set off one after the other in sequence.....despite the fact they were lying right next to each other ). The best use for any of his writings is emergency bog roll or tinder.
  19. Rubbish. Scientology has changed its 'beliefs' to fit the circumstances and to keep the scumbags at the top rolling in $. Hubbard originally was 'God' and everything else was imagined by him, when he died the world/universe would end. Of course with his death and the subsequent absence of Armageddon the fact he had kicked the bucket was kept hidden from the world and the believers for a number of years. Since they can no longer claim he was God then their 'beliefs' have been altered in the subsequent years.
  20. Was there years ago. Was very naughty.....
  21. Nice to kow I'm not the only evil bastard who has done this.....
  22. Okay, that does look like being nuts. But the Torygraph does put its own spin on stories (as do all news media). More due to the law legalising brothels not being thinked out in regards to indirect consequences, there is no way the law would have been intended to cause this and it should be amended in the very near future to resolve this. The legalisation of brothels is actually a pretty good idea in that by criminalising prostitution it only increasing the risks (medical, exploitation, drug use) for all those involved without stopping the sex trade in any way.

  24. Pretty disturbing for you guys, extremely disturbing in some of the cases quoted (getting convicted of distributing drugs when there is no proof of intent is way out there). All in the name of a pretty pointless 'war' (the best way to encourage widespread use in recreational drugs is to make them illegal.........). The 'war' on terror is chipping away on rights as well, but at least there is the case to be made there that some of the changes might end up doing some good (although that is debatable as well).
  25. Ooooh, that must have smarted. Serves the little toe-rag right.
