OT = Al-Qaida's #3 Man Arrested in Pakistan
Britbillsfan replied to RuntheDamnBall's topic in Politics, Polls, and Pundits
He suffers from Luecoderma, a skin disorder. A pity that he could not have some rare and incredibly painful disease rather than something that makes him as ugly on the outside as on the inside. -
Ryan Neufeld is the son of Satan - he sticks pins in voodoo dolls and....hang on, have we had this in a thread before somewhere.......

Buffalo Firefighter Awakes After 10 Year Coma
Britbillsfan replied to PTS's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Different injury. Being comatose, even for such a huge length of time, is an entirely different order of injury, and comparatively minor (ie: you can recover from it - Terri Schiavo was not in a coma). PVS is a difficult condition to diagnose, 'cases' which have had recoveries were not in fact PVS. Schiavo certainly seemed to have PVS - when the autopsy comes out we will know for sure. BTW not condoning what went on, just don't wish to see a mistaken view that these two cases were the same, when they are hugely different, which dilutes the argument, IMHO. -
Just checked. OT on Football board. It is allowed. It is on the PPP that deference is a hanging offence........

Cope with death of loved ones with support of family and friends, plus remembering the good times. Cope with the prospect of nothing after death with - well there is nothing I can do about dying it is totally not worth worrying about, so I go back to living my life. Atheism is a hard belief in that it offers no solace or prospects after death, or comfort of getting to meet departed loved ones, things that make religions such appealing fairy tales. All religions have had really major bits added to them that so distort their roots that is impossible for me to believe in the original premise as much as it would be for me to believe in (just about) long dead religions invoking Wotan, Thor, Crom Cruach, Kali, Vishna, Set, Ra, Zeus, Hades, etc, etc.

How Sweet Elton to marry David

Well good for them. Hope they (continue) to have a happy life together. -
To be fair Clayton is being paid to judge a draft before it is even over. Does not stop him being an idiot, though.

Nice of russia to help our pals the syrians
Britbillsfan replied to Rich in Ohio's topic in Politics, Polls, and Pundits
Yes and no. They are only sponsoring the killing of innocent men and women and children in India. BUT since 9/11 (and because of the very real possiblity of a war with their fellow nuclear power India) their support for such groups has noticably dropped and the 'Kashmiri Seperatists' (many of whom are neither Kashmiri nor are seperatist, but want Indian Kashmir to join Pakistan (unlike most Kashmiris who want independence from both)) are very much in the decline. Syria on the other hand is run by a cabal of evil men who still sponsor evil acts (not just in Israel, they are stirring up problems in Lebanon again), and, sadly, the fact that Russia is STILL providing them with arms is no more surprising than me not winning the lottery. -

You expect posters to read and understand an article before posting - don't you know that is not in the tradition of TBD posters. The guy does deserve gaol for his fraudulant activities, nine years seems about right after you take into account parole. Fraud cases are notoriously difficult and laborious to get convictions and take a long time to go through the courts (here in the UK at least) so going after these serial fraudsters by attacking their methods is a legit tactic.

Cheers for the link, nice little resource - was going off the FBI as a resource when I thought he was at large - guess they don't trust the Iranians enough to list him as captured. I note the CNN site says that the US government has indicated that almost two thirds of AQs leadership has been caught/killed, which seems more accurate than the 24 of 26 figure at this point.

Ironically anti-semitism in France is fairly strong partly because of the more radical of the Islamic immigrants dislike of Israel/Jews, for various well documented reasons, as well as Le Pen and his fellow lowlifes - so there is some common ground between the different fanatics. Anti-semitism in one form or another has been around at least since Julius Caeser strode around Rome and there probably will always be hateful people who will keep that still alive. Le Pen is opposed to the way the EU is going as am I, but most of those who are sceptical about the EU would not touch Le Pen with a ten foot bargepole. Beat him repeatedly about the head with one perhaps, but not touch him with one. -

To those that swallow his xenophobic bile I am sure he is seen as a saviour. Personally I would rather see a fully federalised European super state (something that I as vigourously opposed to) than to ever see a 'leader' of M Le Pen's ilk ever gaining power in France, or anywhere else in the EC. The man is a racist, anti-semetic piece of fascistic trash and a waste of oxygen. -

A true example of incompetant military leadership. -
Personally I think inept is too strong a word, but there have been mistakes since in any armed conflict (I do not really see this as a 'war', just a whole series of different insurgencies with some international terrorists thrown in for good measure) there will be mistakes made. Examples I would include would be that many 'partners' in this conflict are using it as a way of legitimising their policies towards ethnic groups (Chechnya being an example, the Chinese treatment of Muslims another). Not that I think there are some real monsters in the Chechen (and other) seperatist movement but that the Russians are responsible for far more civilians/atrocities than the extremist elements will ever be able to manage. The policy in (specifically Southern) Afghanistan of paying & relying upon local mercenary warlords to help catch OBL and the AQ leadership rather than putting more than just a few SFs on the ground to do the job. (I heard one AQ expert say there were more journalists at Tora Bora than US/coalition military personnel - can not confirm this but with the policy at the time it would not be that surprising). Attacking Iraq at the TIME it was attacked (I have no problem with the removal of Saddam's regime or the way the war itself was conducted, just it was all done in too much of a rush) meant that troops that could have finished off the main body of AQ militants after the success of Annaconda were redeployed. This to my mind points to a leadership not getting the job in hand done properly before going onto the next target. But like I said at the start of this post the 'GWOT' is a series of conflicts and in any conflict mistakes will be made.

Apologies for not making it clear, I meant that it is likely that in the foreseeable future Zarqari will be in Iraq and Zawahiri in Pakistan (or where-ever-the-hell he is) and that it may take a while for any communications (given the fact that the cleverer terrorists no longer use cell phones) to go between them.
-
Intelligent discourse and more or less agreement on a complicated subject. Are you sure we are on the PPP board???? There is an added problem for al-Zarqari and any long term aims he may have in taking over the leadership in that communications and any deal worked out is difficult to do between people who must spend a lot of their time trying to prevent others from finding out where they are currently.....
-
Seems far too high a figure, to my knowledge, not including the big two, Sheik Said, Saif al-Adel, al-Masri, Thirwat Salah Shirhata and Abu Faraj al Libbi are all still at large and would have been considered in the 'top 26' for many years. What was the source of the info?

DT Depth: is Lauvale Sape the answer?
Britbillsfan replied to Dan Gross's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
No. -
I do see your point and it is a very solid one but I think any ambition he might have will not be enough. Sooner or later I see Zarqawi getting caught (or more likely killed) as he appears to want to be in the limelight a little too much, whilst it might gain him popular support amongst the terrorist fighters it does not do much for his life expectancy. In any case I see Zawahiri being the king maker, and can see him working to put someone he already works closely with who would have some popular support amongst the foot soldiers of his movement - hence why I would put OBL's sons as the natural successors to the leadership. There are other candidates as well but do not see Zarqari as a natural fit for the way 'AQ' appears to work. One interesting possibility (though not an altogether pleasant one) is for al-Zarqari to become a totally seperate leader of his own group in competition with AQ (he already pretty much is that despite the reported pledge of loyalty to OBL - a good PR move for him). The history of terrorist groups has pretty much always led to them spintering and sometimes becoming deadly rivals where they were once allies.
