  1. Well, the DB has control of the ball first, just because the WR has a hand in there does not mean he can claim to have control, he gets both hands on the ball and can claim control only after the DB already has control (which is the rule - simultaneous control the catch goes to the WR, non-suimultaneous control then whoever has control gains possession). Definitely a blown call. Even disregarding the non-called PI push.
  2. Back up to the back up.
  3. Well Dredd was a pretty good movie. Could have done with a larger budget but it certainly was true to the original material. Good to see an action movie not even try for a PG13 rating as well, the bad guys were suitably brutal. And an awful lot better entertainment than the season's opener.
  4. Sadly I am away from my PC (or any PC) that will allow me to follow the game this week. Shocking, I know, but I plan to watch the other 15 regular season victories of the Bills this year!
  5. I think this Dredd would have just shot him in order to put him out of everybody's misery. Tickets booked for Sunday.
  6. Dredd is a comic book movie. Seeing it this weekend, reviews I've seen have been very positive - far superior to the Stallone version in the 90s. Very violent, no-nonsense action flick.
  7. Agree with you there Pooj.
  8. It is entirely possible the Bills wanted Asper and asked him back, but the Vikes liked him enough to stick him on their 53 man roster in which case 'bye. If they kept a locker for him then it is likely that this is the case.
  9. Judge Dredd: Countdown Sector 106. Because I wrote it and it helps pay the bills.
  10. Forgot old Reggie. Leonard Rossiter was a fine comedy actor. Fall and Rise is being remade with Martin Clunes who starred in another fave: Men Behaving Badly. Also, the Young Ones did kind of live on in 'Bottom' with two of the stars continuing the anarchic (and violent) nature of the former show. Finally Absolutely Fabulous had some pretty fine episodes as well.
  11. True but, despite that, for me to omit it would be unforgivable.
  12. Since you guys are mostly remembering your favourite American shows I thought I should throw in some British ones: Yes Minister/Yes Prime Minister - A Favourite amongst politicians as it is very close to the truth... Fawlty Towers - John Cleese as the world's worst hotel owner Ripping Yarns - Michael Palin and his take on adventure stories for boys Only Fools and Horses - dodgy dealings of a couple of more-or-less honest wheeler-dealers Porridge - prison comedy The Young Ones - Anarchic students, very 80's Britain but still have a soft spot for it Minder - the tales of a dodgy second hand car dealer and his bodyguard
  13. Currently working my way through the Flashman Papers, historical fiction where the nominal narrator/'hero' (Flashman) is a liar, lecher, bully, coward and much more (less?). Very enjoyable and recommended. When the first book came out several acedemics wrote reviews believing it was the real memoirs of a historical figure...
  14. This is serious, I need to get to the docs. I know I have a slight fever but I fear for my mind and that my perception of reality is failing... Nope, there still is an English champion at Wimbledon. Definitely need to make an emergency appointment.
  15. Two British finalists at Wimbledon!??? Okay, who spiked my drink?
  16. I hope you never say that out loud within hearing of any Taffs or Jocks!
  17. Yeah, he got a yellow, but there was a foul and should have been a penalty, he will miss the next match despite there being a foul. I would prefer back to back as a viewer (at least I would if there are none of those freaking vuvuzelas being 'played' in the crowd) but after the past shenanigans there is no way I would want to risk my team being knocked out by such disgraceful behaviour (or knocking out another team by acting so disgracefully, for that matter). Anyway, should be a good game tonight - Netherlands/Portugaul. Both will want a win, given the situation in their table, but most especially the Dutch.
  18. Nope, Germans all right. Personally I think FIFA should go further on cheating, using video evidence to hand out pretty stringent penalties to obvious dives (Eg: when no one is near a player, or collapsing to the ground grasping face when all that has been done is someone put a hand on a player's chest (both these are normally an attempt to get a free kick/penalty/an opposinbg player booked or sent off), an undetected handball that stops/results in a goal). Ban players for one (or more, depending on the severity) games for these infractions and the number of dives/amount of cheating will be reduced. Refs can not possibly spot everything and at this level there should be something in place that stops such frickin' annoying chicanery. Soccer is full of wannabe Belichicks.
  19. This is because of an obviously (but unprovable) fixed result at a previous World Cup. Because the other game finished early Austria and West Germany (as it was then) knew the only result that would result in both teams going through was a 1-0 Austrian win. (Or German one, I forget which). 10 minutes in a goal was scored. The last time there was any action in the rest of the game. Seriously - 80 minutes of the teams passing it to one another, and that was it. Made the Pats* all look like saints (not Saints, BTW) in comparison. So from now on the last group gasmes are played in tandem to avoid this kind of asshattery (or at least make it far less likely).
  20. At least Russia has footballing pedigree. Qatar hosting the World Cup, FFS.
  21. England are really in a transition mode at the moment. New manager and the midfield has been devastated because of injuries, there are players who are starting who who would not have even made the squad without the Bills-like list of casualties. Included in the losses are two very good, young creative midfielders. Without them (and with Rooney McFathead's suspension) England are really in a bind as far as going forward is concerned. The defence is stout so the reliance on counter attacking is inevitable. With the current team a lot of people in the UK had England marked down for three losses and out.
  22. A better study would be to compare like for like. So professional football players with other professional sports people. Even then there will be problems (if you compare against Sumo wrestlers, for example, then the results are pretty likely to be skewed). Professional athletes are less likely to smoke, will take care of their nutrition, exercise and have non-sedentary careers for their early years in the workforce. All this will add up to being healthier than average. Also the general popuilation includes a farily large number of people who have serious illnesses in childhood that would make a career in football impossible and which would also reduce their life expectancy.
  23. Looking at a couple of other teams it looks as though 31 is not that many, given how many are unlikely to stick around anyway. I counted 27 and 37 (Pats) in thopse cases.
  24. Saw this in the O2 arena in London (aka the Millenium Dome OR The Giant Waste of Money) with my young nephew. Enjoyable, but bear in mind it is a kids' show.
