What's the deal with these Pirates off Somalia?
Britbillsfan replied to SD Jarhead's topic in Politics, Polls, and Pundits
Well, we were in a low level war with Spain for most of her reign. And a more high intensity one for much of the rest of it. There were several attempts by the Spanish to invade England, essentially a crusade against those who had turned against Rome's authority. We had to pay for the defence of England somehow - using Spanish gold to do so probably seemed a good idea at the time... The seizure and confiscation of an enemy state's assets at sea has been a tactic of war since forever. But the point about Drake (and others) is accurate. A great captain, admiral, seaman and, ahem, pirate. -
I liked the ending...especially the last panel. Okay the squid thing was a little...odd...I will not have an issue with that being changed. I think Rorscach's acts of violence (Dog Man, the prison riot, the two police officers) could be enough to push this to an 'R' rating...

If the World Could Vote in the US Election
Britbillsfan replied to Heels20X6's topic in Politics, Polls, and Pundits
Not really surprising on a few counts. GWB's record diplomatically is a bit of a disaster (to put it mildly) and he has managed to get a lot of people normally friendly towards the US to be quite hostile. Secondly this sort of thing is more likely to be 'voted' upon by the young, who traditionally are more left leaning than older generations. Not too many pensioners who will go to this site and vote for their man... Finally Palin. Whilst there would be many people who would be willing to vote McCain in an election outside of the US there would be precious few who would take a chance of having her as the vice president one (lack of) heartbeat away from the most important position in the world, especially given McCain's age. -

Perhaps radical Islamic scumbag pirate/kidnappers, and plain old thief scumbag pirate/kidnappers? These guys were off in their timing a little - speak like a pirate day was a couple of weeks back... -

I found it funny... -
I put in Reed. Whatever he said to their starting safety (Wilson?) meant we got a rookie to pick on...

ditto for me

Yep. The thread just gets funnier and funnier...

He was in the position he is best suited for. On the bench. The new guy they brought in this week bumped him down the depth chart...

Some observations about the game.
Britbillsfan replied to Steely Dan's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
They used Jackson a lot so that they could use him in mismatches against LBs, catching out of the backfield. The team gave up a few yards on running plays so that they could gain huge chunks of yardage this way. In retrospect I give them props for this rather than trying to force a few extra yards with the FB in there and making Marshawn look a little better. All IMHO, of course. -
That was one name I was not expecting.

Once Evans has signed... then we can see about Peters

4 DEs? We rushed 4 DEs against Seattle
Britbillsfan replied to OCinBuffalo's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Ellis was inactive, Bryan is used a lot in special teams from my understanding which is why he was dressed for the game. I imagine we will see plenty of Ellis later in the year, though. -
I just heard Belicheat on ESPN saying the Pats*
Britbillsfan replied to buffaloboyinATL's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
No, he was fined. The first of four fines for dirty play that young man of character (*ahem*) collected last season (if memory serves). I also remember many thinking he got off lightly. http://www.bostonherald.com/sports/footbal...ticleid=1034674 -
I think DiGeorgio was helped off the field and had to be checked out, but since nothing has been mentioned in all the euphoria I guess iot was nothing serious. Other than that I don't recall anybody getting dinged in the game. (And I would love a feed too...)

HOw about an amputation to the head...

So the Joker, on headline TV, would get to see what he wanted to see?
-
Since it is very likely he would get paid if he just showed up to camp then him losing a year's salary is a big deal. Losing a year's salary is not going to help him any. At the moment his money is going backwards at the rate of a little over $100,000 a week. That hypothetical $million he has in the bank will be seriously depleted by the time the regular season begins.
-
If Peters was in camp and asking for a pay rise I would be 100% behind him. He is getting better year on year and is only just hitting his peak. He was originally the right tackle, so switching to the left side so impressively should be rewarded. BUT with him moping about at home, not coming to camp to help build the team and contribute to the efforts to get into the playoffs from an early stage I am 100% behind how the Bills' FO are handling this.

Wonderful. At last some sanity returns to the board after the Obie/Kat/BillsareRacists threads. -
Development in JonBenet Ramsey case
Britbillsfan replied to Beerball's topic in Off the Wall Archives
Sure, and the evidence that a man (possibly two) had entered the house by the window to the room she was killed in is conveniently ignored in such speculation (mind you the boulder police managed to ignore this, and a host of other evidence (evidence of Tazer use, discarded rope from the intruder(s))). The whored-out daughter rumour is a bit of horrible libel by those who know stevestojan about the case. The investigation (if you could call it that) by the police in this one is pretty much the perfect example on how not to investigate a crime. The really awful thing about this case is whilst the Boulder Police were busy ramping up their imaginary case against the Ramseys over all these years is that by doing so the perpetrators of this crime will have gone on and done many other truly horrendous acts in the time since. As for the child beauty pagents. Weird. A little disturbing. Considering the mothers background as a beauty queen not entirely surprising. Lots of people live their lives through their children, even from a very early age. Certainly nowhere near 'one step below child molesters'. -
Ah, the Daily Mail, source of all information hat is accurate and unbiased. Now there will be one or two twats who will moan about an 'unclean' puppy, but very few. Just a non-story the Daily Mail ('Send these so-called Jewish refugees back to Mr Hitler's Germany' - they have remained pretty consistent over the decades with their xenophobia, just now its different targets (and not just Muslims)) can get righteous and indignant about.

The Magnificent Seven (and Dirty Dozen) had pretty good casts. also A Bridge Too Far was full of great actors.
