  1. I believe it would have. Cleveland hasn't seen 3 years worth of 200 yard games. Cleveland hasn't seen 3 years where any 4th quarter deficit is a loss. We had nothing new to see from Tyrod and it would have created a controversy. Cleveland hasn't had the Tyrod experience so it buys more time before the cries for the rookie to step in become toxic.
  2. They Brought in Kolb to replace fitz as a veteran and AJ to replace Tyrod. Those 2 didn't work out for different reasons. Do you think a QB controversy creates a good or nutral environment to develop a rookie? I don't.
  3. The problem with both those capable starters is that neither of them was/is good enough to make people forget about the rookie on the bench. Tyrod and his 31st ranked passing attack would not have been accepted by the fans. This can lead to a less than optimal environment for your young QB to develop in, he won't outplay the vet but the fans will demand he play anyway. For better or worse the Bills are thinking of future wins, perhaps at the expense of wins now. They also got Edmunds out of the deal which has it's own value to the team.
  4. We traded Darby for one year of Gaines, who played better last year than darby did. We also got to draft Phillips so we will see going forward if Darby is a more valuable player than Phillips is.
  5. This situation was nothing like 2013 where we needed a QB because we had spent years passing up opportunities to get one. This year they knew they would be drafting a QB. The team figured Tyrod was worth more as a 3rd round pick than as a place holder.
  6. They probably be hesitant to fire the OC while developing Allen. It rarely goes well when a young QB gets a new OC every year.
  7. Option A) take 14 mil, and spend the year getting your bones ground to dust. Hit the free agent market as a 28 year old back who had 800 carries over the last 2 years. Option B) sit out the year, save your body and hit free agency with more tread on the tire and get a better long term deal. seems like an easy choice to me. Surprised so many people wouldn’t try for 60 mil because they’d be happy with 14.
  8. I'm a glass half full guy, I always find something to be excited about. This year it's all about Allen, how does he look, does he show growth in his footwork, reading the D and delivering the ball on time. Having a top ranked QB prospect on the roster helps build my excitement for what looks like a rebuilding year. This reminds me of the 2010 season, lots of new faces, rebuild in progress, except then we had to hope we were in a position to get an elite prospect, we didn't. This year we have that guy so it makes it easier to get excited about guys having break out seasons and other rays of hope.
  9. Darnold has more QB skills at the moment but isn't as physically talented. I've been impressed with how quickly Allen has grown though. His performance in the preseason and senior bowl was far better than his performance at Wyoming last year. If Allen continues to progress as he has so far I feel good about his chances.
  10. I assume not, Would a person with the screen name "Go Bills" get as much attention as a person whose screen name was "The Bills will fail"? probably not. Choosing a screen name that is negative about the team this board is supporting will draw more attention than a screen name supporting the team. Why is this surprising to you?
  11. So your actual feelings don't match the certainty of your screen name. Got it.
  12. Our defense is solid and we still have Shady. As long as we don't get Jamarcus level QBing we won't be the worst in the league. I think we'll end up in the standard drought draft range of 9-16. I'm curious what do you think of this Allen kid we drafted? High hopes?
  13. No doubt winning is better but this is obviously a team that is built to be in development this year.
  14. The sinking ship was our cap situation. It was unsustainable. Cordy was paid to miss most the season, Marcell was gone, Wood retired, and Taylor needed to move on. That’s 40 mil right there. Yes we made the playoffs but the cap situation made resigning players and replacing players impossible.
  15. Rex inhereted the #4 defense, then left McD with the 19th. Rex inhereted a team that gave up 5,5 ppl fewer than he left McD with. That seems like a big difference. mcD inhereted a bunch of aging players with huge contracts, Rex did not have that problem. So McD started with a team that was worse, older and cash strapped. Very different situation. McD did not lose the team, they clearly play hard for him, quote him and trust the process. Whaley was a failed GM,Beane has barely gotten started. Rex was a failed coach and McD made the playoffs.
  16. When ownership signs off on the second highest dead cap hit ever then they clearly see the GM as bailing them out from a sinking ship left by the previous GM. That alone says a lot about their expectations and the leeway they give.
  17. Rex was in a different situation, he inherited a top defense and was supposed to make them better and win games, he failed and lost the team while he was at it. In this situation there is no doubt that they expect to struggle and so ownership wou t be surprised when/ if they do. If they don’t improve in 2019 then that is when the seat gets hot.
  18. Rookie QBs on bad teams often struggle, even if they are good QBs. Manning was 3-13 for instance.
  19. There is no way McBeane is on the hot seat after this year. They just ended the streak while beginning a rebuild. 2020 is the first year they could possibly be on the hot seat.
  20. He left, not kicked to the curb. Which Olinemen did you want us to sign?
  21. He was not going to resign it’s us. The clown show we were running back then had a hard time keeping players.
  22. 80% of our dead cap is 4 players. Darius, Tyrod, Glenn and Wood. Darius was not worth his contact and was detrimental to keep around, I think it was worth the dead cap to get him out of town and get something in return. Cordy was often hurt and was replaceable, getting 2nd rd value for him was worthwhile. And Tyrod was not an option to stay here getting a 3rd for him was a good move. Without trading Tyrod and Cordy we would have had to trade both 1sts to get a QB. I think the cap loss for 1 year was well worth it.
  23. Wood had to retire, Dion is a good replacement for Cordy( who already got hurt and allowed us to get the QB we wanted) and Richie retired, unreturned, got involuntarily committed to a mental institution and then arrested at a funeral parlor. I’m not sure what the bills could have done differently that would have been better.
  24. The elephant in the room is TB12. Nothing we were going to do this past year was going to make us competitive with him. But his time is running out once he’s gone the future of the division is up for grabs. I want to be the team that is built to fill that void. So I’m ok with athletic high upside rookies. I’m ok with eating dead money this year. I’m ok with building draft capital this year. All of those things will make us better next year. This is the perfect time to rebuild. I’d love to see us win games but I’d much rather see us making moves that help the 2019 Bills. He absolutely can develop without being a starter, that being said the chances of him riding the pine all year are slim. A guy like Peterman exists to be just good enough to win the starting job while you acclimate your rookie but you have no intention of him being able to hold that spot once the rookie is brought up to speed.
