As a former HS and College official (16 years) I can fully appreciate the disconnect between College and the NFL. I personally know 2 NFL officials. Those guys like the kids who play in the NFL are the cream of the crop. Literally the best of the best. There are very few who make the big show. One of the guys I know worked the Super Bowl. He was soooooo good. It was like breathing air to him, not only did the game play in slo-mo for him he had the personality to manage HUGE A-HOLE egos on the field. He was an Ump when they worked behind the D-Line. The college guys are a notch above the HS guys. Thats not saying much. As always in any group situation politics plays a huge part. So you have good officials and bad ones too. A major reason why so much doesn't get called at the college level that does in the NFL.
Everyone loves a conspiracy though, so we all tend to - me included - say "OH WE ARE GETTING SCREWED" by the officials. I was in that camp firmly during the 1st half of the cheats game. It all basically evens out, not always in every case but on the whole it evens out as far as the calls go. As much as I hate to admit it when the yellow flies against the Bills and they show the replay 98 times outa a 100, it was the right call. I remember my first D1 game - HOLY EFFING FAST BATMAN!!! I just couldn't imagine an entire team of that against another entire team of that.
People do not appreciate how fast the game is and how hard it is to make those split-second calls.
Interesting take however @ToGoGo tech is a wonky thing.....
