Per Shefty - Bills “expected to lose” Poyer and Edmunds
MrEpsYtown replied to BeastMode54's topic in The Stadium Wall
At that 15 million area I’d still be in on him. Interested to see what his market is. Really fascinating. A unicorn at an undervalued position whose original team doesn’t seem to be trying to keep. -
Eric Wood/ Last Bills Oline drafted in 1st round/2009
MrEpsYtown replied to Figster's topic in The Stadium Wall
I’m not overly concerned with where the player is picked, what bothers me is when you study and target a position and take the wrong guy. It’s an error in scouting imo. Wood over Unger, Williams over McKinnie, Ford over Elgton Jenkins, Zay Jones over Cooper Kupp, Sammy Watkins over OBJ, Evans etc. That type of thing. All pro guys at a position you literally just used a draft pick on. -

I disagree to an extent. They got cheap production for essentially 4 years and a fifth-year option. I think it was a worthy gamble, but Fred Warner went in the third round. In hindsight, I think you let the draft come to you. I think they kind of forced this pick. I think taking an inside off-ball linebacker is ok in the back half, especially if you are getting the best one. I think it's fair to pay him in that 12 million-a-year range. 19-20 is absurd. The first round is for QBs, WRs, Edge sack getting players, and left tackles and corners imo. -

Even when you look at those contracts....Smith is good but probably isn't worth the contract that he just got. His career has been very up and down. Leonard has been hurt, had multiple surgeries on his back, lost feeling in his lower half, etc. Plus when he was out, Bobby Owereke was just as good, that one is looking like a miss imo. Warner is the only one who probably deserves the contract he got and even so there are a bunch of voidable years and such in there. If they let Warner walk and re-sign Al-Shaiir they probably get close to equal production. The CJ Mosely contract even looks like a dud. Tremaine would be a very poor investment, as pretty much any off-ball linebacker is when you start approaching 20 million AAV. -

They will wind up drafting Jack Campbell just to grind my gears. -

Edmunds will be fine wherever because of the type of athlete he is, people will find a way to use him. Poyer will not be okay if he leaves. He will regret leaving after he gets the bag and rides off into the sunset. Scheme fit is paramount for Poyer imo. -

I think if all things are equal, he will choose sun and tax-free, unless the offers are really terrible. -
Eric Wood/ Last Bills Oline drafted in 1st round/2009
MrEpsYtown replied to Figster's topic in The Stadium Wall
I suppose if I was Eric Wood it would make sense for me to publicly bemoan his abilities so I can see people come out and defend my play. -

Yeah an average center won't help with any of that. -

I would be okay with it, but slightly disappointed. I just want more impact with a first-round pick. Does that mean boom or bust? Yes. The solid starter is a meh for me. -

They still picked the wrong guy because Max Unger, who went round two was better. Drafting a center to play him at guard didn't make a whole lot of sense honestly. Wood was okay over his career. Not worth a first imo. -

Lamar Jackson wants guarantees that exceed Watson contract
MrEpsYtown replied to SCBills's topic in The Stadium Wall
I think there are 6 guys teams would be willing to trade 2 first-round picks for: Mahomes, Allen, Herbert, Burrow, Hurts, and Lawrence. I think the price hurts Jackson. I also think people are looking at that Russell Wilson trade and seeing how giving up all that draft capital is probably not the answer. I like Lamar but he has sat out so much and it seems like the book on stopping him may have been found. I would love to see what he could do outside of a Greg Roman offense and if I were a team like Tampa Bay, I would be all over him. If I'm the Jets, same. If I were the Patriots I am calling Baltimore and offering Mac Jones and picks. These teams have pretty good rosters and are a QB away from competing. If I am the Commanders, same. The fact that some of these teams flat-out said they have no interest is indeed weird and may be an attempt to discourage guys from representing themselves. That is where he makes his most critical mistake. -
I agree with you on the overall class. It is actually an interesting bunch. However, I still think this regime is chasing sacks and looking for that premiere, cheap pass rusher. Guys like Zach Harrison, Tyree Wilson, Myles Murphy, Keion White, Van Ness and Isaiah Foskey...these guys look like they were built in a lab to play for McDermott. I do like their interest in Nolan Smith as he represents kind of a different flavor than what they are used to...a Hassan Reddick type of end. I honestly wouldn't be mad at any of them.

People will probably hate this but here goes....Talking heads are beginning to mock edge rushers to the Bills. And I know it grinds some people's gears, but it is a need. Once Von got hurt, no one could get to the quarterback. Obviously, they have needs at OL and offensive weapons, but in theory, they can add OL in FA and later in the draft. If all the 1st round receivers are gone, your next best bet for an offensive weapon is a TE or RB (which can also be found in free agency). What can't be found in free agency is sacks, and so I think there is some merit to that thought process. If it really is BPA based on need, here are the needs IMO: Edge, LB, Safety, OL, offensive weapons. I think OL and LB get knocked out in UFA, I really do. If they sign OBJ, there is the OW. Outside of OBJ, DJ Chark, Mecole Hardman, and Noah Brown, the WR UFA crew doesn't really excite me. If they can't add a WR, that leaves you with edge, WR, #2TE, and safety as needs. Unless a top WR falls, the value is at the edge position.

Definitely not. The tag for Tremaine is 21 million and for Poyer it's 14. I could see a transition tag on Tremaine at 17 million. That gives them the right to match offers, but no compensation. But I still do not think they will go there. I think they are ok with losing Tremaine and paying someone half of that to replace him.
-
Side note but the bill is going to come due in Cincinnati too. And their owner is still a renowned cheapskate. The have yet to pay Burrow, Chase, Higgins. They are set maybe lose Mixon and maybe Perine. They have Hendrickson for 2 more years, Dj Reader for 1. Tyler Boyd, Awuzie, Collins have 1 more year. They are set to lose Germaine Pratt, Von Bell, Jessie Bates this year and Logan Wilson is a free agent after next year. They have to decide what to do with Jonah Williams. Their window is probably this year and maybe next.
-
I just think the Bills don't have the draft capital to do it. Whereas a team like the Texans have 12 picks and could easily add a guy like this. Or the Falcons, Seahawks, Raiders or Chiefs who have 9 picks.
-
I feel pretty strongly that LB is a position they are going to add a young vet. I love Campbell and Simpson, but I don't think they wait until the draft to add a QB for their defense. Pratt is by far my favorite option in UFA, followed by guys like Drue Tranquill, Cole Holcomb, Bobby Okereke...all of those guys can replace Tremaine at various price ranges, but won't approach what Tremaine will make because of his prospect shine and perceived upside. If they go and sign a guy like Anthony Walker Jr. or Zach Cunnigham to a 1-year deal, then they are very likely to draft a LB early imo. To me, LB and OL are the two places they will add mid-level guys via UFA.
-
PFF had him like 3 years 24 million. Something along those lines. I think that can easily be done under the cap. The Bills can't do a 20-mill-a-year guy and I think that is what Beane means when he says no Von Miller-level addition.

People need to start cutting offensive linemen. Like Joel Bitonio or Shaq Mason or something, please.
-
I could see a job share, but yes I agree. I've already lost my mind at this point in my life, but I hear you.

I prefer a Germaine Pratt long-term guy. However, Kendricks as a bridge to a guy like Trenton Simpson would work for me as well. However, Kendricks will wind up in NYG, Raiders, or Dallas.
