Scouting Report Daiyan Henley ILB rounds 2-3
MrEpsYtown replied to PrimeTime101's topic in The Stadium Wall
I gotta disagree. Simpson is almost 2 inches taller, 10 lbs heavier, and has bigger hands. Arms are little over half an inch shorter. Henley has a better broad jump, but all the other numbers Simpson has him beat. Simpson is just better on every level. I'm not saying I am against Henley as a pick, but I have Campell, Simpson, Sanders, large gap, Henley, Sewell etc. Just to add, he has Campbell beat on the 40, but the 10 and 20-yard split is exactly the same. So henley has better long speed. Campbell has him beat everywhere else as well. Henley also has longer rams than Campbell. -
Scouting Report Daiyan Henley ILB rounds 2-3

Interesting guy. But he's like the thrift shop version of Trenton Simpson. Simpson does everything Henley does, has more polish, is bigger and faster, and 2 years younger. -
A'Shawn Robinson is still available. Does he fit?
MrEpsYtown replied to Johnny3410's topic in The Stadium Wall
Agreed. I think Poona will have to wait until after the draft unless he is under that 1.7 million threshold. In terms of linebackers, outside of Myles Jack/Zach Cunnigham, it has become a mostly barren wasteland...but either of those guys would not count in the formula because they were released. -

Yeah, I think at this point they don't add anyone else until after the draft. It looks like they are sitting pretty with that 3rd round comp pick next year. I don't believe you should go crazy over comp picks, but right now adding any cheap depth is going to cost you that pick. No reason to add anyone at this point unless it's a trade. -
How long before a defense coordinator is signed?
MrEpsYtown replied to Saxum's topic in The Stadium Wall
Someone else has to hire him as a HC. You can’t promote from within and get picks. Another team has to hire your minority coach to be their HC or GM as Lyndon states. The system is rewarding teams for developing minority coaches and front office people. The team that hires the guy doesn’t get compensation. -
Will DeAndre Hopkins be available this offseason?

Anybody go blind yet? -
I don’t have a problem with Wright at 27, because I think he is going to very good, but I only want him if they plan to have him start over Brown. I don’t want to draft competition. With the WRs, I love Johnston and really like Smith-Nijima…I don’t love the rest of the first round guys at this point. I like Tippman a lot. If I’m replacing Morse next year, he’s a great fit, 27 seems high for him in my world. I think he’s a round 2/3 guy. I will say that some of the conventional thinking stuff about RTs and MLBs in round 1, a belief of which I am typically a strong believer in, is kind of out the window with our pick. Our 27 is really a second round pick because there are so few 1st round prospects in the draft. My gut tells me they draft Campbell, Simpson, or a DL, edge likenNolan Smith or an interior guy like Bryan Breese.
-
Why though? Because people on draft sites have him later in the draft? Is it something you see in game? His production, instincts and all his athletic measures are better than Tremaine’s except his 40. So it can’t be that. Last year at this time no one had Kaiir Elam in the 1st. And that’s where he went. Draft gurus had Karlaftis in the top 5, he went like 30. None of that matters.

My point is that all GMs have a ton of misses, including the GMs that every idolizes. Most GMs seem to struggle in the round 2 and 3…the odds just get lower. On Bernard, we really have no idea what they think of him, but they probably have some conclusions based on his practices. The only thing that I claim to know is that he is not a mike. He is Milano’s backup. It’s like apples to oranges y’know? But they know what they have in the building with Bernard and Dodson, but I believe that there is a zero percent chance that either of those guys is starting come September. So the optics don’t matter…he needs a mike. Sure he can draft a backup RT to challenge Brown or a #2 tight end, but how can he justify that when there is a glaring hole in the middle of the defense. I keep saying it, but this was the exact same debate on this board last season when there was a glaring hole at corner. It was so obvious it was going to happen, but people kept on arguing against it. Maybe I am wrong and they really believe in Dodson…I just don’t buy it.

Draft Prospects with Private Meetings with the Bills
MrEpsYtown replied to MAJBobby's topic in The Stadium Wall
Maybe. I like it. They need a really difference making weapon, otherwise it is all for naight. It isn’t Davis, and outside of Johnston or Smith-Nijima who are probably out of reach, it isn’t in the draft either. It’s a go for it move for a guy who has had a couple of injuries, he also played with a terrible QB and for a college head coach who was in over his head. Hopkins had some hammy stuff, which we don’t see a lot of in Buffalo and an MCL. The Cards are an embarrassing mess from top to bottom. I think we have a much better training staff. Is it a risk, sure, but I think its worth taking at this point. A mid round pick in a very weak draft for an all pro receiver? I do that deal any day. -
He should resign over a bad, late third round pick? I get that Bernard looks like a really bad pick. But I don’t understand the logic here. He just shouldn’t draft anymore linebackers because he picked a crappy one last year? That third round pick is a sunk cost. It is what it is. You have to start fresh every year and you have to pick the best player for your team, and right now that is a guy like Campbell imo. This is what GMs do. Some picks hit and some picks don’t. Everybody’s rockstar GM Brett Veatch drafted random defensive tackles in the third round 2018, 2019, 2020 all of whom really didn’t amount to anything. Khalen Saunders is ok and just left. So Veatch doesn’t have to resign because he drafted Mahomes and Creed Humphrey? How many WRs did Philly have to draft until they got one right? It’s all a part of the job. You have to look forward.

Kill me, but Johnson over Flutie. Was never a big Flutie guy, I’m a big tall QB guy. Hated Murray and Baker Mayfield coming out.
-
Agreed. You don’t see it as much anymore. Patriots do it a ton from what I recall.
-
I would rather they spend that money on Hopkins or OBJ. Beane said something about re-aligning the cap. I think we are getting a rookie MLB, cheap deal.
-
I mean yeah its a dime defense. 4 DL, 1 LB, 6 DBs. Some teams still do it. Hasn’t been a staple here.

Calais Campbell *update beane said no visit scheduled

I’m down with it. It it helps Rousseau its worth it. I guess he’d replace Shaq? -

I actually find him really interesting. A lot of eyes on him because of Cole Strange last year. He's a left tackle who will move inside to guard. I'd be lying if I told you I watched a bunch of his games but he is an interesting prospect. I do think the Bills will continue to use their picks on defensive players, though passing on those WR in the first really does not make sense.
-
Good point. The only reason I bring it up is that he has such little experience so far, so just thinking long-term trajectory he isn't the best investment. All three of those guys are 2ish years younger and have significantly more experience both in the league and in college. Just doesn't seem like the most worthy investment of effort and time. But for depth, for sure.
-
My thing with Ike is his age. I was always a fan of his, even when he was on the back end of the roster. I've studied Kirk Ferentz stuff for years, he stuck out to me. But he's going to be 29 in the fall. Maybe it's a late-bloomer situation, but I am not sure how much playing time I would invest in him. I do think he is a really good depth for us to have. I am more excited about the upsides of Bates, McGovern, and Edwards TBH. I think they were separate Achilles tears? What I have learned from rupturing my own this September is that the surgically repaired Achilles is essentially 10x stronger than it's ever been. Just takes a while to get that flexibility back. The point being, with two surgically repaired Achilles, he should be ok going forward.

All my opinions here, but here goes: Skoronski and Paris Johnson he would probably be salivating for. Both are versatile athletes who are super smart players, both are also out of reach. They are by far my favorite OL in the draft. Johnson will be a dominant LT and while I am against an RT or guard in the first, I think Skornoski will be dominant there. I worry about him at LT. B. Jones has that versatility and is an excellent athlete. Kromer probably likes Darnell Wright, he's versatile, an ok athlete, and a solid player with good feet. Kick Inside candidates: Mauch - He has a lot of interesting athletic traits and is a former tight end. He's a guard. Upside plays on the surface, but he is already 24 years old. Bergeron - I like him, I think Kromer would. He's another smart player, I do think he is probably a guard only, but he has a ton of experience and good OL traits. High floor. Steen - I think he is a guard too and I think Kromer would like some of his traits. I think he would excel as a zone blocker. Outside chance he could stay at tackle. I would think he also likes John Michael Schmitz. While he is a center-only prospect, he is nasty and a very interesting center who is very smart. Kromer can work with that. He turned Brain Allen into a pretty good pro, and he was a nasty center-only prospect. If they are looking to replace Morse, I could see him in the second round. My only issue with him is that he is old. He may have reached his ceiling. I would also keep an eye on Joe Tippman. Again, a center only, but he's basically Mitch Morse reincarnated. Great size and length for a center and another Wisconsin guy which Kromer seems to like. He came to Wisconsin as a tackle who they moved into center. I think he could play guard or center. He just turned 22 today, so there is an upside there. I can tell you who I don't think they like; Harrison - another soft Oklahoma lineman, Kromer went through this with Bobby Evans and the Bills went through this with Ford. Good athlete, but doesn't have it. Torrence - I don't know what to think here. He is a big slow plodding guard only whose sack numbers are skewed by an elusive qb. His bench at the combine is going to hurt him a little because he seems so much more powerful in the game. I think he is a gap scheme guard, but he does show well in zone. He has a ton of experience, and he can play, I just don't think he is what they are looking for. Again, my opinion. Dawand Jones - a massive human being, probably a RT only. Players like this have never been Kromer's flavor.

I would say that I think the Bills like a pretty specific type of lineman. They like tackles who move inside and they like really smart, athletic players. That kind of narrows down the pool they pick from. But it is clear that they have a type.
