  1. For sure, I just don't see it happening at one of the most critical positions in his scheme. I don't want this to turn into another McDermott thread, but he truly needs to evolve and I just don't think he has it in him. Usually, guys have to get fired to learn their lesson and adjust like Reid, Belichick, Pete Caroll. We do need an infusion of youth and talent at the safety position.
  2. From what I seen of Bishop I think he is a good fit. I am not sure McDermott will trust the position to a rookie, but we do need an infusion of youth and depth at that position. I think they bring back Taylor Rapp who just turned 26 and got a ton better as the year went on. Plus he has a ring.
  3. Rd1: Cooper DeJean Rd2: Cole Bishop Rd3: Braiden McGregor Rd4: Ladd McConkey Rd5: Will Shipley Rd5: Tommy Eichenberg It’s like a message board wet dream! I kid, I kid
  4. What’s crazy is that this is the downside of Allen’s humility and ultimate respect. Sometimes the truth hurts and difficult decisions need to be made. At the end of the day, that’s the only way change can happen. We need Josh to save us once again.
  5. 2022 getting Cook, Bernard, Benford, Shakir is super impressive work. So I give him credit there. Elam is a massive whiff and it gets even more annoying when they basically traded Tyler Linderbaum and Jordan Stout for Elam. It just hurts.
  6. @GunnerBill went into some detail on this in another thread. Elam’s skills do not translate well to the position of safety.
  7. Torrence looked really good. He had some rookie moments, specifically on the inside rush, but I like him a lot. Him and Kincaid are homeruns.
  8. One has balls and trusts his players and one does not.
  9. Rothlisberger. I think once they move on from McDermott, this iteration of Josh wins a championship. Then he gets old and fat, becomes a precision pocket passer and wins another one as the old guy. So two titles imo.
  10. Their press conferences were just the same fluffy stuff they always say. And I know they aren’t going to say anything controversial, but they are gonna run it back, probably draft some receivers and the result unfortunately will remain the same. Our only hope is that they realize they just need to unleash Josh and allow him to be the guy he is meant to be. That’s all that matters.
  11. Shortly after that quote he wrote: McDermott later said that he believes you “throw to win” in this league. Encouraging. We’ll see which actions match which words one year from now. This team can only be judged in the playoffs. So he acknowledged what McDermott said and admits it’s encouraging.
  12. I never read that hit piece or whatever and don’t know what a tyler dunne is, but he is right. Everything he says in that article is correct.
  13. I’m pretty sure we all found out what kind of guy he was when he punched and choked his pregnant girlfriend in 2014.
  14. I guess she should not have set the house on fire
  15. I’m actually curious if they would have to open it up. It’s not really a vacancy, it’s a promote from within. I suppose it’s all moot since it sounds like it will be status quo defensively.
  16. Hyde is the man. And if he is indeed done playing, forget coaching, he needs to get into broadcasting. Good-looking, super intelligent and well spoken…he’d crush it.
  17. The easy fix is for McDermott to name him DC. Curious to see what happens.
  18. Gunner what do you think about Kliff Kingsbury as OC? I brought him up in another thread. I think he'd be good for Josh.
  19. After Brian Callahan was hired, I can see this happening. NFL is a copycat league, and with all the strong candidates available, the Titans went young OC. Terry Fontenot is the GM there. If they hire Belichick or Harbaugh, he is essentially gone. Fontenot comes from New Orleans and will know Brady well from that organization. They could hire Brady and bring in Pete Carmichael Jr to be his OC, both really familiar with the NFC South. In fact there were a lot of rumors in 2021 that this would be the pairing in Atlanta before they hired Arthur Smith. So I think this has some legs to it unless Arthur Blank ignores his people.
  20. Pretty good article looking at offensive fits for the players drafted last year. https://www.si.com/nfl/colts/news/best-scheme-top-quarterbacks-2023-nfl-draft#gid=ci02bdad4b0000279b&pid=usatsi_19467622 To me, Allen is a great fit for what we have been doing with E-P. Brady is an E-P coach, so if you are looking for a big change, you have to change coordinators. At LSU Brady was the passing game coordinator. He was not in full control of the offense. His first chance to do that was in Carolina where he got a little too spreadish and refused to run the football. It would appear he has learned his lesson. Brady is a Sean Payton guy who coached under Pete Carmichael Jr. who coached with Ray Perkins way back. Concepts will not change all that much. In terms of scheme, I hear many asking for a WCO, it's fine and Allen will be great in any offense. But the WCO may neuter some of his play-making ability unless you are installing Andy Reid's modified WCO. The WCO is a rhythm and timing offense in which the QB is the distributor. I'm not sure that's what I want for Josh. The point is, if Joe Brady is back, the concepts will not change much. E-P is E-P, he will add spread variations, some Y cross Lincon Riley type spread concepts. If Brady is not back I would consider a guy like Kliff Kingsbury. He's going to put the ball in the hands of the QB and let him cook. A ton of empty and air raid principles. However, I don't think McDermott would ever hire him because he doesn't "know him" and he wants the old ground and pound. Kingsbury is not a yes man and is kind of a jerk and demanding of his QB and receivers. That's what this team needs, and so does McDermott. Ultimately, I think Brady is back and we get to see him install his full offense.
  21. Jones is a must imo. Floyd may be hard to retain, but I’d like him back. Dodson is interesting. I doubt he comes back to be a backup to Bernard and Milano. At the same time I wonder what his market is. Off ball linebackers typically struggle in free agency…I guess it depends on what stock teams put in that PFF stuff. But I’d say he’s gone because he would probably want a chance to start somewhere. Perhaps Dane as well. He’s probably going to look to start somewhere, not sure he finds that opportunity, but the lack of solid corners in the league is a big thing.
  22. Yep that was the risk, and the worst case scenario played out unfortunately.
  23. I am not happy with this regime and obviously this move did not work out, but the process made sense. They came to the conclusion that the only way to beat Mahomes is to sack him…play coverage and rush 4…that was the plan and it failed because Von got hurt. So here we are. That is still likely the way to beat him. That off season the best offensive free agents on the market were Christian Kirk, Allen Robinson and Evan Engram. Kirk has been really good when healthy and Engram has been excellent. Allegedly we were in on those guys and they went to Jacksonville. Robinson was a big bust who got cut after one year. So again, signing an elite pass rusher coming off a Super Bowl win made a ton of sense at the time, it just hasn’t worked out because of the injury.
  24. So first you have to have a net loss or free agents, sign less than you lose. League minimum signings do not count. Then contract values come into play. Their free agent list is extensive: QB Kyle Allen WR Gabe Davis LB Tyrel Dodson DE A.J. Epenesa LB Leonard Floyd DT Poona Ford RB Damien Harris S Micah Hyde CB Dane Jackson DT DaQuan Jones DT Linval Joseph CB Cam Lewis DE Shaq Lawson LB Tyler Matakevich RB Latavius Murray DT Jordan Phillips S Taylor Rapp DT Tim Settle WR Trent Sherfield Guys who are not minimum contract guys are Jones, Davis, Dodson (PFF nonsense), Epenesa, Floyd, Hyde..maybe Jackson, Rapp and Settle. The rest are minimum guys imo. So they do stand to lose a lot. Davis and Epenesa are definitely gone. Floyd and Dodson are likely gone as well imo.
  25. Epenesa was a bad pick and fit from day one. Another wasted high pick to throw in the bucket with Cody Ford, Kaiir Elam, Boogie, Moss, Zay Jones. Just huge misses.
