  1. From all accounts he is a good guy who is valued in the locker room. Fine. If you guys are okay with being mediocre, give him a 3 year 22 million $ contract with 16 million guaranteed. Then don't complain when our defense is getting lacerated and we can't beat the Patriots. Don't be committed to mediocrity. Preston will be the new Chris Kelsay that we complain about and joke about how he brings his lunch pail. Lunchpail ain't winning the Super Bowl guys. You need talent.
  2. But people are saying give him 6-7 million, then some people are saying he's good depth so he should get 4 million. Then some people are saying that it is important to have depth pieces like Thornton/Ducasse on the team so we should keep him. But depth players like Ducasse/Thornton don't make 4 million. Its all very confusing.
  3. Shaq is on a rookie contract and Thornton, Ducasse are 1 million per year guys. People want to give Preston 16 million guaranteed. That's the difference and that's what I am arguing against. I'll have him back for 1.5 million for 1 year sure.
  4. Fine but you don't play high quality depth six million. It's lunacy. It's Chris Kelsay guys. It's a commitment to mediocrity.
  5. It's so funny that when Whaley was here, it was "We believe in one voice." That was a nice way of forcing Whaley to shut the hell up. So passive aggressive. As soon as he's gone you, hear from McDermott and Beane.
  6. Hopefully it is a huge lowball offer. I honestly wouldn't mind him moving over to the SAM spot that Lorax occupied, poorly, last year. That would make Preston a two down player and he would spend a lot of his time head up on a tight end in 4-3 under looks. I know I am crapping all over Preston, but he has two things going for him, extremely long arms and a very fast three cone. That tells me he has some short area quickness and long arms should help him jam tight ends and set the edge. Maybe McDermott is probably offering him a chance to come back at a reduced role out of respect. There is no way they watched him play and thought it was good.
  7. I don't mind him back either. I think he is more of a 3/4 though.
  8. Waiting for Jacksonville to cut Allen Hurns. He's due 7 million with no dead cap hit. They have Lee and Moncrief signed to some big money and have added a ton in free agency. Good size and good speed. I'd take a shot at Jeff Janis for depth. Someone mentioned him the other day. I still don't know how Matthews ran a 4.46 at the combine.
  9. I thought Jones looked pretty good as a gunner early on. Not a bad re-sign if it's league minimum.
  10. I don't want him back at any price. If he returns, he will continue to hold this defense back. Manti T'eo, essentially the same player, signed a 2 year 5 million dollar contract. He is a part time player that only plays in base 4-3 sets. I'd be comfortable with that number, but I'd prefer he not come back. Also, Avery Williamson is a playmaker. He has something like 12 career sacks. The dude is a difference maker.
  11. I really like Shaq's potential, but I'd call the Saints and offer them Shaq or Hughes for AJ Klein. We get our middle backer and they get the edge defender they've needed opposite Cam Jordan for quite some time. New Orleans was very high on Shaq coming out, before they picked Sheldon Rankins.
  12. I'll have to agree to disagree. Once that quarterback breaks the pocket that linebacker needs to have enough speed to run him down. At least in this zone scheme. Preston is just not twitchy enough to make that transition and doesn't have the speed. He is a 2 down backer in this league. There is value in that, but not for us. And that is my point. You just can't pay a player of his caliber anything close to what the market is dictating. It is what we used to do with the Chris Kelsays of the world. Let him move on and figure it out some other way.
  13. From all indications Conor McDermott loves him. That's an advocate for Rosen who is already inside our building and played with him for two years. https://www.theplayerstribune.com/josh-rosen-conor-mcdermott-ucla/ https://media.theplayerstribune.com/uploads/20150905_zan_o44_001.jpg Here's a quote from twitter: OT Conor McDermott on Josh Rosen: "He's super smart.. He's a great man, a tremendous leader & one of my best friends." https://twitter.com/BruceFeldmanCFB/status/754012981793476608
  14. We could not get to Bortles, but once he breaks the pocket, linebackers need to have enough closing speed so he isn't running for 30 yards. The linebackers need to close the gap and stop the quarterback before he gets to the first down marker. I blame Brown and Ramon Humber. They both stink. I just think bringing him back is a very poor use of funds. He has proven to be mediocre, and that can't be the goal, can it? When we eventually find his replacement, he can't really play special teams either. Seems like there is no point to having him back. Yes he is smart and such, maybe he should be a linebacker coach or something. Just a very poor fit for our scheme.
  15. He is never man to man on backs and tight ends, but the MIKE in this system needs to be able to play a deep middle. He has to have range and speed and he has to be able to get to crossers and things of that nature before they get to the first down. He is terrible at this and he doesn't have the speed to make up for it. I still say he is the reason we lost to Jacksonville. Bortles was able to run up in the pocket and ran for 10-15 yards every time before anyone got to him. This happened because Brown is too slow. He has to be able to come out of his zone like a missle downhill and tackle that quarterback. He simply cannot do it. He's a 3-4 ILB who comes off the field in nickel ala Reggie Ragland.
  16. Gotta move on unless you are making him a two down guy who comes off the field in nickel. He is so mediocre and bringing him back is like re-signing Chris Kelsay...paying mediocre players has had a negative effect on this franchise for many years. I hope they stop doing it.
  17. Maybe he wanted to take most of the time with long answers so that he wouldnt have to answer as many questions
  18. Slight overpay but a huge need and basically cut the Marcell contract in half.
  19. Thanks for the response. My reaction is that If Rosen gave that response he would in fact be less genuine. That’s just not who he is imo.
  20. I kind of liked his “aw shucks” comment. I mean does every guy have to be a boring talking head? I like his personality from what I’ve seen but thats probably just me. Mayock complimented him on his natural throwing. What is he supposed to say? Thanks? They would say he’s so boring like Eli. He could say “Yeah I know i have the best arm.” Then people would say hes a cocky no good rich kid. He’s a 20 year old kid who gave Mayock and quirky answer. I liked it. I think he realizes that people who have decided he’s some liberal rich kid are going to critcize him no matter what he does. I respect him for deciding to be himself rather than pretend to be something he is not.
  21. Anyone planning on turning that Manuel jersey into a Rosen?
  22. He is nothing special. Extremely ordinary. Read his and Nate Peterman’s draft profile on NFL.com and you will see that Nate got a slightly higher pre draft grade. They are the same level of prospects and we are looking for something special, not Bryce Petty.
  23. We traded down once last year and traded up twice. We came away from last year’s draft with 6 players. I expect something similar this year. I like that this fromt office goes and gets the players they have targeted.
  24. Mayock did say process like 5 times im his interview with Rosen...he must know something!!!!
