Howard is a Castillo guy too. Kind of surprised he wasn't the move.
-
Pretty much agree with everything he says here. Basically it's Darnold or Rosen, possibly Allen. The other guys do not seem to fit the mold for what the Bills want. The one thing he says that I disagree with is that this move has to happen now. I really don't think the Giants will trade out until they know what the Browns are going to do. So we really need the Browns to take Darnold for us to get Rosen imo. Just blitz his face off and draft really tall defensive lineman like 6-6 Trent Murphy.

4-11: Dane Brugler Talks NFL Draft on WGR
MrEpsYtown replied to 26CornerBlitz's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Yep. Timmy Chang, Ty Detmer, Colt Brennan, Eric Crouch say hi. Graham Harrell is hanging out somewhere as well. Arguably, the best quarterback in college history is now playing minor league baseball. Another one played point guard for the Knicks. People seem to really struggle to understand the idea of projection and what it takes to win in the NFL versus college. Not really sure what the confusion is on these boards. -
Beane Bad Player Relations ?
MrEpsYtown replied to Jamie Muellers Ghost's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I think we are pretty close to agreement. I think he was in that 15-20 range, but not the all pro that everyone made him out to be. He was a slightly better than average center. I do like Groy a lot actually and he spent a summer with the Patriots in 2015 so he should at least have some familiarity of the terminology Daboll will use. At the end of the day, short of signing Luke Joeckel (perhaps Castillo can tap into that natural talent) or offering RFA Matt Paradis (2nd round tender) a contract, we are probably looking at Bodine at center with Groy at LG. Of course we could look to upgrade in the second round as well. -

You asked me who I would rather have, so I'm counting those three as guys I'd rather have over Wood. Obviously I can't say they are better, but projection tells me that I would rather have them. -
Mason Rudolph to Have Pre-Draft Visit With the Bills
MrEpsYtown replied to 26CornerBlitz's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I think a lot of Bills fans are afraid of being let down by a big time prospect like Darnold or Rosen. So they want to play it safe with a guy who sucks, so when he sucks they won't be let down. It's like having an ugly girlfriend because you are afraid a hot one is going to cheat on you. It is truly insanity. -

Travis Frederick Alex Mack Jason Kelce Rodney Hudson Max Unger JC Tretter Matt Paradis Ryan Jensen Ali Marpet (though he is probably moving back to guard) Ryan Khalil Both Pounceys, I hate them but they are better than Wood Pat Elflein Weston Richburg Ben Jones Brandon Linder That's all I got. I might be forgetting someone. I like Travis Swanson, but he is coming off injury and John Sullivan is old. So 16 counting a guy that may move back to guard. I would also take any of the three guys in the draft...Price, Daniels, Ragnow over Wood. So technically 19. And people please don't say you've never heard of some of these guys, because if that is the case, you should not comment. -
Beane Bad Player Relations ?

I hear you. I have love for Wood, but I'm just saying he was overpaid for what he provided. I think it is okay to like him and still think he was overrated no? It just goes into the original topic about Beane. I just don't think he is going to overpay players for average production is all I am saying. We shall see. It is still very likely that Wood's replacement isn't as good, but that doesn't mean that Wood is this great player. He was good. -

This is a common misconception and simply not true. I'd place him, maybe in the top 20 of centers. He was a pretty average player, maybe slightly above average center making top ten center money. He's been okay but definitely overpaid. Very overrated by fans. -
It's so funny how all these media a-holes make so much money trying to repackage things all of the time. I actually liked our red jerseys. Likely this is a group of TV people who never played sports deciding what football fans want. The fact is they cant schedule stronger games. They try to, but teams always disappoint and you wind up with crap games in prime time. It happens every year. They need to just leave it be and division games was a pretty good idea.

New Era Draft Caps drop this Thursday

Just terrible. Maybe if I was in fourth grade..but yeesssh. Someone's made a lot of money for crap. Even the children in sweat shops must have thought they sucked. -

I think it is just mostly scheme change and I think he was injured a bit. I still think his ceiling is very low, but I don't understand why they would not give him a shot over Vlad. It sounds like Castillo is very demanding and meticulous on how he wants things done. Perhaps Miller didn't want to change, or perhaps he simply couldn't do it. -

This is an interesting point, I just think he is bias towards his guys. I think it makes sense to keep a hard line in negotiations. It's not all cumbaya, but I'm sick of overpaying out hometown average players who we think are so great. Hopefully the Chris Kelsays and Eric Woods of the world are officially gone. It is a business first and they are only going to keep guys who fit and they don't seem willing to overpay. I don't think it is a bad thing but you do have to live on a fine line. -
Are We Losing The Off-Season?
MrEpsYtown replied to BadLandsMeanie's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Eric Wood has been really overrated for a long time and I was upset when he signed that extension. Richie still plays at a very high level and his loss is big, but some fresh blood there is exciting and I believe we will be okay. I really do think Ryan Groy could replace one. We get a guy like Ragnow, Price maybe in the second round and Bodine becomes your swing guy or competes to start. -
Bills fans seem to like the lovable loser. Fitzpatrick sucked, so he was fun to like. Flutie was short and had a mullet but is extremely overrated. Losman, Johnson, Edwards all California sissies. Rosen is good and smart. That seems to be a big no no around these parts. A lot of people want the short white trash quarterback who drinks, grabs his crotch, and probably likes to hunt. A guy you can see yourself grabbing a beer with. Its a strange bias. I just want a guy who can win a Super Bowl. The best bet in that regard is Rosen. I don't care what he wears, or who he votes for, or if he eats quinoa.

We could have 5 quarterbacks and 17 recievers like the Jets. -

Yep I know Peters was good, but my point was that he took him to the next level. Not sure. It is weird. He doesn't seem to fit the type of lineman Castillo typically worked with. Miller is small, slow, and unathletic, which kind of makes him pretty average at best. But he is a great fit for a power type scheme like the one Roman ran. He is very strong. He could technically play the left side as he has a ton of experience both left and right from his time at Louisville. To me he really is just an overdrafted Whaley special. -
For those worried about him being Jewish (which is a really ridiculous concern btw): Interview question in bold: Your high school coach said you're also curious about religion, and while you're Jewish, you attended Mass every Sunday. That's right. I went to a Catholic school, and it was cool to learn. You have to have an open mind. It'd be naive to think you're just born into the right religion that will get you into heaven. My opinion will evolve and grow. Where do you sit on it? I'm Muslim by heritage, and I used to attend Mass too, but it was partly to impress a Catholic girlfriend. Now I'm agnostic. [Laughs] Same. But agnostic and atheist are loaded words -- people get scared, like, "Whoa!" Look, I don't know, and I don't think it's possible to know. Don't tell me how to live my life, but I'd love to hear about how you live yours.

"In a game, if the window's closing on your receiver, sometimes you need to dial it up and say f--- that, I'm going to get the ball in there. I'm supremely confident in my abilities as a quarterback." Love it -

The one thing that Castillo is known for is developing young players. There were a bunch of reports in Baltimore that the linemen were not happy with what he had them doing. That he was too regimented and things like that. I believe that he is not well liked by veteran players who are set in their ways. Across the board his strength seems to be molding and developing young lineman...case in point Dion Dawkins. It is possible guys regressed last year because they did not buy in. Vlad was one of his guys and that is why he played imo. Here is what Bryant McKinnie said about Juan a few years ago: "Juan likes to develop young players, because that's what he did in Philly," McKinnie said. "He is a good coach and he does help you with your technique, but he wants it done a certain way. My thing is everybody doesn't have the exact same talent or learn things the same way. I don't feel like you can coach everybody exactly the same, not everyone is going to react the same. Five individuals can't do the same thing instead of trying to make everybody a robot. You need to learn about your players and know their strengths and weaknesses and coach them that way. Juan is highly rated, but it takes time to adjust to what he's looking for." Guys like Kelechi Osemele (2nd round), Ricky Wagner (5th round), James Hurst (UDFA and Bodine college teammate) and Ryan Jensen (6th round)...all guys who developed under Castillo and now have big contracts. You have guys he developed from scratch in Philly like Jermaine Mayberry, Hank Fraley, Tra Thomas, Todd Herremans, Jason Kelce and some (at the time) younger veterans who he took to the next level like Jon Runyan, Jason Peters, Evan Mathis, even Marshal Yanda. My point is that maybe guys like Glenn, Richie, Wood didn't love playing for Castillo. I am optimistic that he can mold and develop young talent that has been otherwise overlooked. Guys like Groy, Bodine, people they draft. I really don't like that our line regressed under Castillo, but I do think we are in a position now to get guys that fit and we can really see him do what he is actaully good at. -

We honestly don't know what is going on with him, but if he is making a decision with his health as his best interest, who can hate on that? We can't be mad at him saying he screwed the Bills and stuff. Maybe he took the pay cut with the idea that he would play one more year and after meeting with doctors decided it wasn't worth it. We can't assume that there is hate, intent, and Russian Roulette type stuff going on. I am never going to hate on a guy for deciding to retire for his own health. -

Do you think he said something derogatory about Asians on his way out? -
I'm thinking Luke Joeckel, but there isn't much there in FA. I actually really like Ryan Groy as a replacement for Richie. He isn't going to give you the same production, but he has potential and is on the roster. I really don't think we are in dire straits.
