If you like him its Brady, if you hate him its Leaf. Both of these things are outliers. We are comparing this guy to the greatest of all time and one of the biggest bust of all time. The fact that Brady made it and Leaf didn't has nothing to do with Mayfield. Using examples from the past, that are both 1 in a million, aren't great way to defend this guy either way. The fact is that this guy is making a list of people who doubt him is weird, obsessive, and shows a huge amount of insecurity. This is not confidence, this is the constant feeling like he has to prove people wrong. He's gloating and talking about it as well which is really sick. This list is probably something he should have kept to himself. It doesn't show a guy with competitive fire, it shows a guy who probably needs therapy and could use some prozac. A quarterback needs to be able to block out all of the noise and the haters. This is not healthy for the leader of your team. What if he decides to throw the ball deep on a play because he wants to prove Colin Cowherd wrong and he throws a pick, when there was a wide open checkdown? That would be selfish and puts himself before the team. I've also seen hims make excuses quite a bit and this what insecure people do. When he had 8 uncatchable throws at his pro day he blamed it on the fact that he hadn't had practice with the recievers. It's a scripted pro day. None of this stuff is healthy guys. You might like it and it reminds you of Trump and whatever, but this dudes attitude is strange and it will only get worse in the NFL when there will be even more haters and talking heads. Yeah I don't like it. Sounds like a bullied emo teenager. Not a fan of this type of thought process and I find it very self-centred, woe is me type stuff. It really is putting yourself before the team, and if people can't see that, I'm not sure what to say. Then when he wins a game he will grab his crotch. The guy is trashy. Not a fan. Good player, but I really dislike the person. There are going to be haters everywhere. You just have to brush your shoulders off. Motivation needs to come from within. And yes I know Tom Brady blah blah, then you have Ryan Leaf too. Previous examples mean little.

I've mentioned this before, but if you read everything that Brandon Beane has said he looks for in a quarterback, size, accuracy, arm strength, winning from the pocket etc etc, there are three guys in this draft who fit the bill...Darnold, Rosen, and White. If they can't get into position to draft one of the top two, White makes some sense as a later round project. White is not some lower level player as he started games as a true freshman at South Florida. He is also a former baseball player and McDermott likes that. I will say he is a third round pick imo.

If we were to trade up, when would it happen?
MrEpsYtown replied to bills6969's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I think it has to happen during the draft. First spot is 2. The next spot is 4 to get in front of the Broncos, then it is that 7-10 range before the Dolphins and Cards. That said, if you can get the Giants to trade you two, then you could make the move now. Problem with that is that you are giving the Jets a chance to jump you at 1. If Beane and Gettelman have agreed to a trade, there is no reason to announce that now. The Jets could go and offer the Browns the moon to trade down 2 spots. If Beane and Gettelman are working a deal or have a wink wink deal in place, their relationship would allow them to go into silent mode about it to keep the Jets from knowing and can make the trade on the clock. If there is a deal, it behooves Gettelman to keep it quiet so that NY media doesn't tear apart the trade for the next four weeks. He takes that opportunity from them and let's the media continue to talk about the Jets. -
Rex Ryan expects the Bills to make huge offer for #2.

Trying to give him the benefit of the doubt, but he did work for the Pegulas and he must know how badly they want a true franchise quarterback on their team. Pegs was I'm sure pushing for Trubisky last year. He is meeting these guys and I think, outside of Darnold, they are going to find a way to trade up for the guy the organization wants. -
At worst Janis is a really good gunner, but he definitely has some untapped potential. But it I just looked them up, and Brandon Reilly's pre draft numbers are pretty close. Same 40, Janis beats him in the vert, measurable are similar with Janis an inch higher.

On NFL Network, Maurice Jones Drew was just talking about how Mayfield takes very deep drops as a result of his height so he could see. I mentioned this in a post earlier in this thread, but it is something people seem to ignore. Those deep drops will not work in the NFL. This puts a tremendous amount of stress on your offensive tackles as defensive ends in the NFL are indcredibly fast and can easily bend around tackles. This isn't madden where you can just run backwards for twenty years to avoid the rush. Mayfield is going to have to stand tall in the pocket, step up, and make throws with guys in his face. I don't see a ton of that in his film. That is where having less than ideal height doesn't work for most guys. Brees finds a way and Wilson is incredibly athletic. I see a lot of very deep drops and running around to buy time from Mayfield and I don't think will work when guys are super fast in the NFL. I don't hate him the way I hate Rudolph, but my fear is that Mayfield's abilities simply don't translate to the NFL. I see him as a Colt McCoy type of guy who can be a serviceable backup and can win some games if you need him to.

Lynch to me is a warning about not developing a quarterback. Denver traded up for him knowing he was a project and knowing they had to develop him. They didn't do that. They threw him out there too early and have had tons of turnover in their coaching staff. Now they are probably drafting a guy again, where a guy like Lynch had a better draft grade than a bunch of the guys this year. They have failed miserably at developing him. Maybe he he doesn't have it, but boy that staff has done a terrible job with him. Let these guys sit.

I think that list is just hard to quantify. There are a lot of smaller college quarterbacks who haven't made it and there are a handful who have. The problem with listing guys who haven't made it, was it just height or a number of things that caused them to fail? Guys like Joe Hamilton and Pat White who lit up college football and did not make it. Was it because they were too small? I don't really know. Cade McNown, Ty Detmer, Rex Grossman, Tyrod Taylor, Timmy Chang...these are all guys who lit up college football who were 6-1 or less and did not make it. Some had a bit of success in the NFL. Quarterbacks under 6-2 who are good are few and far between and that is the point. It it is easier to list the guys who have made it. Vick, Wilson, Brees, Flutie, Tarkenton, Jurgensen, Len Dawson, Theissmaan. That is 8 guys in the entire history of the game, 4 of whom played in a time where everyone was smaller across the board, so really just 4 guys and Flutie and Vick are questionable. Wilson is a ridiculous athlete with huge hands and Brees has huge hands and ridiculous accuracy. I like Mayfield, and I think he has a chance, but history is not on his side. He is a short, spread quarterback, who lacks speed, with slightly smaller hands. These are all legit concerns if you are drafting him super high. In a lot of his college film he took super deep drops and ran around to buy himself some time. This is not going to work in the NFL. He is going to have be able to have to make throws within a collapsing pocket and step up into that pocket with 6-5 lineman in his face. We saw what running around in a circle got us with Tyrod, but at least he ran 4.5. It's tough. Do I think he can do it? Maybe, but you can't say that these are not legitimate concerns with Mayfield.

Sal C: Broncos Love Mason Rudolph

Fair enough and this is fair analysis. My pet peeve is when people use once in a lifetime outliers to prove a point, so sorry if I came off as a jerk. I think he is a 3rd-4th round prospect but will go in the second. Especially if teams like the Giants and Broncos pass on quarterbacks in the first. -

Someone is going to get a steal later in teh draft because of all of this nonsense. He needs time.2 years + -
This is pretty mych Jeff Driskel. Big time recruit with less than stellar college career but huge upside if developed. Kevin Sumlin really jerked him around. Then he got benched in Houston for throwing interceptions. Had a pretty impressive game against Rice and was very good for A&M early. Certainly worth a late flyer.

Sal C: Broncos Love Mason Rudolph

Ok someone please explain this concept for me. How can we defend a flawed prospect by using 3 of the greatest quarterbacks of all time as examples? It makes no logical sense. Its three guys, out of thousands of guys and we are putting this guy in that company? If you are going to mention those guys as reasons he could be sucessful, you also have to mention the other thousand guys who failed for the same reasons. The odds are very much stacked against this guy. Way more guys have failed because weak arms than succeeded. Using three generational players to defend the probablity of his sucess is illogical. To your other point, both Rosen and Allen have experience under center. -
He's a 3-4 inside Linebacker so protected by both the nose and the mike playing inside next to him. Interesting to see what the Cards do with him now that they have moved to a 4-3. I'd venture to guess they are going to move him back to safety. Also he is 6-1 211, James is 6-3 215. These are completely different body types. Sounds fancy on paper, but just not the right fit for what we do.

The Wunderlich test for quarterbacks
MrEpsYtown replied to bills in oregon's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
That Jackson score is a red flag, but it is all a part of the process. With the agent situation he is definitely not helping his stock. Nothing has changed though. No matter what, if you draft this guy you are going to have to alter your offense to fit his skillset. And he needs some time to develop. Those two things are true whether he runs a forty, aces a wonderlic, or his mom is a maniac representing him. He's a great athlete, he needs time to develop, and teams are going to have to be all in on him to make it work. That is all still true. -

It seems like Janis has some interesting potential and just didn't get a chance to play in Green Bay. I'd love to have him in. -

I feel like Malachi Dupre could be something but who knows. If this is a minimum salary benefit guy it's fine. -

I'm guessing John Elway? JaMarcus Russell, Kyle Boller were up there
