Sorry for the rant Dingus! and this is not directed toward you, just my general angst. I will say that the Chiefs hit on a second-round pick, a center who gets away with holding on every play and got lucky with a sixth with an excellent guard in Trey Smith. They will lose one of those guys in free agency next year. They do not have a LT and their LG and RT were big free-agent signings. They missed on Darian Kinnard, they missed on Lucas Niang, who knows what Wanya Morris is. They have not done a great job drafting offensive linemen. I understand they have drafted pretty well, especially 2022. But they have hit on 2 homegrown linemen. We have 3 homegrown linemen starting for us right now. This idea that they are amazing drafters is a misconception. They hit on Mahomes and Chris Jones, two guys drafted by John Dorsey. He also drafted Kelce a while back. KC had a really good 2022 draft and found Rashee Rice last year. The Bills had 34 homegrown players on their 53 last year. The Chiefs had 32. Mahomes and Jones are two of the best in the league and people think Humphrey is amazing because PFF. But that and the Super Bowls blind some of us. They are good drafters who hit on 3 hall of famers with John Dorsey at the helm.

We have two starters, and we need some depth. This is a bit of a deep dive, but this is what I got.... James Lynch, former Baylor Bear who has played all across the defensive line in Minnesota. Tore his acl last summer, so coming off an injury. But he could be a cheap buy with a really interesting pedigree. He can play nose, 3 tech, or some defensive end as well. PJ Mustipher is a huge nose tackle from Penn State. He's been a journeyman, but he is the kind of big body you can throw in there and he can have an impact and would be very cheap. Ross Blacklock is a former second-round pick who has busted. Maybe worth a look at the very least. Austin Johnson is another former second-round pick and another Penn State guy. Another mostly nose tackle, but he has been productive in multiple spots. I think he could make for a possibly interesting add. He is probably the best player on this list. Bryan Mone was recently released by the Seahawks. 6-3, 345 he is a huge dude and could be an interesting backup to Daquan Jones. He looked like he was having a successful career and the Hawks gave him a big extension, then he hurt his knee is 2022. He missed all of 2023. In some other thread I talked about Marlon Davidson and Taven Bryan as possible backup pass-rush-type dudes.

Is anybody tracking the Pegula jet? or is the new cash-to-cap making these guys take a Greyhound bus? I kid, I kid.

Any cliffs notes on the article? I really like the idea of McGovern at center so I wanna feel good about myself!
-
Yeah I feel like he has some crossover appeal. I know Atlanta used him inside and out, but that was awhile ago. Obviously, he hasn't been super productive, but scouring the free agent market I was trying to find some younger guys with some pedigree. Bryan I see as a bit similar to Oliver, which could be good as a backup. I do think the Joseph-Day signing should happen regardless of what else they do at the position. I think he would be a perfect rotational 1 tech to go along with Jones.

Looks like the Houston Texans’ new uniforms have leaked

I am partial to the yellow and brown: -
Soup guys? I could see them adding some depth O-Line. There are a bunch of centers/guards out there who could add depth or compete with Edwards that will be cheap. Brian Allen makes sense as a Kromer guy who was released. Evan Brown is young with potential. At WR I would take a peek at Laviska Shenault. He isn't quite a traditional wide receiver, but a guy that you can maybe get for the minimum who can do a lot of things on the field. Durability is the biggest concern, but there have been times he has looked like Deebo Samuel or Cordarelle Patterson out there. He's still just 25 years old and I feel like he is a toy Brady could make use of. He can play inside and out, some RB, and returns kicks. 6-1, 227. At DE Rasheem Green could make some sense. He has some sack production in the past, is a traditional DE, and is still young. James Smith-Williams is a depth end from the Commanders who has size and length and is coming from the same system. Those guys aren't really moving the needle, but could be functional cheap depth. The edge FA class is a barren wasteland outside of Mike Danna and Jadaveon Clowney. At DT, I would like to see them maybe sign a 1 tech like Joseph-Day and then take a shot at a former highly drafted guy for the minimum like Marlon Davidson or Taven Bryan, guys who can give you some rotational interior pass rush.

I get it, I just don’t think they value the position there at that point in the draft. It just doesn’t seem to Beane’s MO. Dating back to his time in Carolina, they have literally never drafted a IOL in the first round. Just doesn’t seem likely to me.

Was gonna say the same thing -
I can’t see them doing it. They don’t draft IOL and RTs in the first round

Thank you for posting! If anyone watches this breakdown and still hates the move they are crazy. If you can’t envision the element of explosive playmaking he will bring, I don’t know what to tell ya!

Davis is interesting. I think the issue is that he hasn’t done anything at all as the Jets never really gave him a shot after his rookie year. He is also going on 28. He’s actually older than Taylor Rapp. But he has some traits that are interesting and could be an interesting upside play.

Ayyyo my guy! He’s a perfect fit for what we do. Great athlete, tackles, has a nose for the football.

Justin Simmons released (now visiting N'awlins)
MrEpsYtown replied to Dablitzkrieg's topic in The Stadium Wall
I like Simmons a lot. I also like Blackmon who some have mentioned medicals on. But it would not bother me for them to wait until after the draft to make a move at the safety position. If you aren't signing Simmons, it probably makes sense to wait. -
Bills sign Taron Johnson to 3-year $31 million extension
MrEpsYtown replied to Roundybout's topic in The Stadium Wall
He also got decapitated by a football in the gauntlet! But he still made it! -
Yeah I mean I would look at him as a role player the way he was a couple of years ago. You just need a guy to get like 300-400 yards and 5-7 TDs which is what he was and he was very efficient at that job. In terms of being full time starter, he was not very good. IMO a guy like that complements the RB room.
-
I'd try to grab Alexander Mattison for very very cheap. He has proven he can play, but can't be the main guy. He would be perfect in that Murray role and is still young. he was also released, so no comp pick impact. I also happen to really like Ty Johnson.

I think you have to count him out, and maybe be pleasantly surprised that he becomes anything again. If the brain trust here is betting on him being something again, that would just be terrible planning. In all likelihood, he is cut at the end of camp. Hamlin was okay a couple of years ago before the crazy stuff he endured, but I don't think he will ever even return to that "okay" player much less ever become more than that. At this point, futures deal guy like Kendall Williamson is more interesting and more likely to have an impact than Hamlin is. JMO. -
Finally something that matters! Nah he said “we’ll see about that” when asked in the press conference. I’m going to guess 0 or 1.

Kenny Pickett being traded to Eagles (according to Schefter)
MrEpsYtown replied to Simon's topic in The Stadium Wall
It’s crazy to me that Pickett is actually a couple months older than Jalen Hurts. -
I think it’s more John Brown-ish with more versatility in terms of how he is used.

100% still draft a WR in the first round. Keep adding weapons. Samuel complements the WR group perfectly and doesn’t force them into a “type” of receiver. They have Diggs, Shakir, Samuel, Kincaid..all guys who add dimensions to the offense. Now you can just take the best receiver left. I like what they are doing. Call me crazy! Let’s outscore everyone.
