Jones and Moulds are nothing alike. I mean Moulds' first year he was playing with prime Andre Reed and behind Quinn Early and did not get a ton of opportunities. His second year he played with Todd Collins. And I do remember people feeling like he was a bust. Year three was his breakout with Doug Flutie and Andre Reed clearly on the downside at 34. IIt was also the first time he really got a legit opportunity to play. Look at the numbers: 1996 Moulds started 5 games. He was targeted 37 times and had 20 receptions. 1997 Moulds started 8 games. He was targeted 52 times and had 29 receptions. Not sure if Todd Collins sucked more than Tyrod. It's debatable. 1998 Moulds started 15 games. He was targeted 116 times and had 67 receptions for 1,368 yards and 20.4 yards per reception and 9 touchdowns. (Aside from a December game against the Raiders, none of these games were blowouts with garbage time.) This was also during a time where the league was not as pass happy as it is now. Even in his early years, there was some evidence of game breaking ability. But people did question him, despite the lack of targets and opportunities. 2017 Jones started 10 games. He was targeted 74 times and had 27 receptions. (Plus a sweet playoff game with 2 catches on 4 targets for 20 yards.) 2018 Jones started 15 games. He was targeted 102 times and had 56 receptions for 652 yards and 11.6 yards per receptions and 7 TDs. (remember that these stats were padded in garbage time play) I think this is not an apt comparison. One guy had zero opportunity to play and when he finally got the chance he broke out in a huge way. the other has had a million opportunities and has been super mediocre. Jones was targeted 102 times and hd just 652 yards. To me that is a staggering number. One of these guys was a game breaking player who sat behind a legend and HOF player his first two years and when he had his chance to shine, broke out. In two years Zay Jones has been targeted 176 times and has 83 career catches and less than 1000 yards. 176 targets and less than 100 yards!!! That's crazy. He has been a focal point of the offense and has put up very mediocre and pedestrian numbers. He has had these opportunities because of his draft status. Anybody else would have been cut. He's lucky we've been in a rebuild. That, and his draft status are the only reasons he is still around.

6’4 WR Derek Kief, Alabama tryout with the Bills

It's probably just a Daboll special. He will get some swag, shirts and shorts, and we will never hear from him again. Good for him. He will go the way of Kenny Guiton, message board hero. -
I get you.I just don't buy his statistics as being anything all that real. I just don't see it with Zay. I don't see game breaking ability. He doesn't make plays. I want to give him a break for his terrible play his rookie year with Tyrod, and I get that he was injured, but boy as bad as Tyrod was, some of Zay's drops were right on the money. I think you have to attribute his increase in statistics as having played so many snaps with better quarterback play. I think it's impossible for a guy to play as much as he did, be targeted as much as he was, and not put up these numbers. Any receiver in the NFL could do what he did imo.

Great points. I do wonder which of these guys can be special teams guys. Outside of Foster I'm not sure. And if Foster is a starter here, maybe he doesn't play teams. I know it's not the biggest deal, but whoever makes the team needs to have some flexibility and versatility imo. I actually like the Iowa Easley kid a lot and I think he makes a great amount of sense as a slot guy, but he perhaps does make it to the practice. I agree that I don't think Sills does and Sills and Duke both offer size, which I think is something that is desperately needed here.

TBN: Way-too-early 53-man roster projection

I think all of the backup linebackers are on notice. If Mo Alexander is a linebacker, and Joseph is, then there is maybe 1 space up for grabs. -
Remember who the quarterback was those two years. Are you basically saying our receivers were so terrible for two years that this terrible receiver had better stats than them? Is that what makes him special? I'm sorry but that is a totally meaningless point. This is crap, but that was more crappy, so this is better crap. It is still crap. Zay is nothing special. You could put almost anyone in there and get the same production imo. You can tell me whatever you think about what I know. He sucks. His rookie year sucked, his sophomore year was full of stats in garbage time. He's just not a big deal. He doesn't make plays. I liked the pick at that time, but he has proven to be a waste. I hope he surprises me, and iIhope he is good, and I'd be happy to come back to this thread and admit that I was wrong. I'm not holding my breath for that.

There is nothing at all special about Zay. When he's open, he sometimes catches the ball. He has no deep speed, he's average in size, has too many drops, he's an okay route runner, he's a bad blocker, he never makes contested catches, and has no RAC ability whatsoever. On top of that, he doesn't play special teams. He was a bad draft pick who has very little upside. He is literally, just a guy. I hope they move on. They probably won't, and will probably regret it. Trade him now while he might have some left over prospect shine.

I think you can roll with 4 safeties if you have functional depth. When you have to bring Dean Marlowe off the practice squad to start and play every defensive down in a game, then send him back to teh practice squad, to me that isn't functional depth. Neal or Johnson need to prove that they can play there imo, not just be special teams guys. I also think that Kevin Johnson has the skills to double as a safety and a corner. -

God I hope not. But you are probably right though. Maybe he could be the waterboy or something, practice squad. He should not play. -

I would simply sign a guy like Maxx Williams or Ryan Hewitt. They are sitting out there with no contract and are guys who play tight end and fullback. That's the guy you want as your third tight end. Not some slow jacked up receiver who can't block. If Fisher or Sweeney could do this, great. I think Fisher is a really interesting piece. I don't really want Knox to be smashing as a fullback. As an H back off the ball on split zone type plays I think it's fine, but if you want to get in I and smash, I don't like Knox there. Maybe Ed Oliver can do it. But the idea that somebody else could do this job and you don't really need DiMarco is probably accurate. -
I don't think we trade picks for players. We only have six picks next year. I think it is more likely that we try to trade assets like Shaq and Zay Jones for mid round picks.

I think people are all confused on how the comp system works. So I'm just saying that people need to know what they are talking about before being rude. It's okay to be rude if you are right. If you are wrong you just look like a loser. ? -

I also think it really depends on a lot of factors, but I could see them going after Michael Thomas, maybe an edge guy like Clowney, and Shaq Thompson will be out there as a possible Lorax replacement at SAM. -

I'm just saying, some people seem to think that signing free agents in 2019 somehow affects possibly getting a comp pick for the loss of and Shaq Lawson and Jerry Hughes. They don't seem to realize that 2019 is 2019 and 2020 is 2020. -

I think you try to trade him to a team like the Cowboys or Redskins, two teams who showed a ton of interest in Shaq during the pre draft process. I want a draft pick, or perhaps a failed prospect of theirs. I'd do Shaq for Josh Doctson, who did not have his option picked up either. Plus you have Rob Ryan there to vouch for him. If I got Doctson I would turn around a trade Zay Jones to the Chargers for a ham sandwich so he can get a fresh start with his receiver coach. If the Redskins angle doesn't work I'd do Shaq for Taco Charlton, who the Cowboys feel is a bust at this point, but Taco is more the prototype in terms of size and length for McDermott's defense. -

I think Croom is out. I don't care who Croom is banging, Dawson Knox can do everything he can do and more. Knox is faster, pretty much the same size and he can block. Croom to me is too one dimensional to be of any use imo. I don't know how it shakes out, how Fisher looks, how Sweeney looks. But I feel like Croom is not a lock for the roster. A #3 tightend should be able to do more than just one thing well, and if he is one dimensional, he should be he blocking type. A receiving Flex tight end makes no sense as a #3. -

Guys, If someone signs Shaq next off season it will effect the comp formula for that season. So signing a million free agents in 2019 would have nothing to do with someone else signing Shaq in 2020. The Bills aren't getting any comp picks in 2020 draft, becuase they signed a lot of free agents in 2019. They could get comp picks in the 2021 draft and Shaq signing elsewhere in the 2020 offseason would effect that. People gotta read up on how this stuff works before going all apeshit. -
I figure Morse might take 65 as that was his number at Missouri but I guess not. Also a quick Google search provided that he wore 75 in high school, so maybe he's buying that from Teller. He also seems like the kind of guy who does not care what number he gets. I could see 41 in that 4+1=5 type of deal like Oliver.

Again I said this the other day, but this is the only position that has not had any overhaul, and only Trent Murphy fits the prototype of what these guys typically looked for in Carolina. Long limbed, tall, etc. Ansah fits that mold, as does Clowney. Ferguson fit that mold, Winovich did not....so I'm a bit surprised they did not grab Ferguson. But I think this is the final revamp for McDermott and Beane. They have overhauled every other position on the roster to fit what they want. Defensive end is next imo. -
I was watching West Virginia vs Texas Tech last night on ESPN U. One of the things that I was surprised at watching Sill exclusively is how he blocked down field. He was pesky and pissing defenders off. I didn't see him struggling to get off press. I thought his initial steps and movements were okay, but need refinement, but he's a fun guy to watch. He goes up to get the ball and contorts his body to make good catches. He didn't get the ball a ton in this game, so I did enjoy watching him do some dirty work. You can tell how much he loves the game and loves his teammates as he wasn't getting many touches but ran his routes hard and was constantly congratulating his teammates. He also seems like a bit of a trash talker like Josh Allen. He honestly reminded me of Robert Woods a bit with the way he plays. I don't know if he makes it, but I like his game. A lot of people see tall, skinny, former quarterback and assume the guy can't play. This guy can ball. He has a chance.

I'm telling you these guys are going to wind up with Trevor Lawrence in two years somehow. I hate them.
