I mean Peyton Manning credits Caldwell with his development. So I'll go with Peyton's opinion on that one. Matt Stafford as well.
-
He sucks, but he has a lot of energy and his Dad has a ton of connections and is well liked. Denver probably thinks they are getting McVay.

Is it the Mason Rudolph show? Bills message board dream!
-
Maybe he brings in Jason Garrett as OC? Caldwell makes a lot of sense as well

I want those comp picks so we can draft that punter guy

Frazier to Chicago was our best shot imo. Hopefully Daboll turns down the Giants...that is our next best shot.
-
Eh, I just don't understand why the Bears wouldn't go with an experienced HC. But this hire is going to come down to who he gets as his OC to work with Fields. And that is no knock to Eberflus. I just think it is a weird process.
-
Yes and no imo. It means he is replaceable. And I think Mathieu is replaceable at this point in his career. I think they do re-sign him, but I think he is down the priority list for them, just not as important as Orlando Brown Jr. Maybe they turnover their secondary like the did their O-line last year.

Brandon Beane Season Ending Presser Weds 1/27

Outside of White, our outside corners are too slow. That is where the change needs to come imo. Speed in the secondary is the issue imo. No reason to re-sign Wallace, as Dane Jackson gives you the same production. -
Evans and Brown regressed a ton under Haslett. i don't hate it, but I think there will be stronger DC candidates out there if Frazier does move on.

I agree...but the Chiefs are 100% in this team's head.

The Colts only won 1 Super Bowl because of Tom Brady. It didn't matter who the Colts coach was. All of the hate McDermott is getting is leaving out the part that Patrick Mahomes et al are really good. McDermott has made tactical errors, but he has made a number of mistakes his first couple of years and has certainly shown he has learned from them. He will learn from this and be better. Yeah it should have never happened, and if it happens again, see ya later. There has to a growth mindset and an understanding that there is a process and people get better. They will pivot a bit and do more to surround Josh with better players and continue to develop our own. That's my 2 cents.

This is the correct answer. You can't rush 4, spy, and cover. We lacerate Edmunds on this board, but people want to add more and more to his plate.

Looks like the call to squib may not have made it to Bass
MrEpsYtown replied to Reed83HOF's topic in The Stadium Wall
Ok, so to preface, I love McDermott. I think he does a good job, and he has taken this team out of the abyss. That said, this is his fault. A few points...so i am a high school football coach, and have been since 2007. As an assistant for many years, I was in charge the offensive and defensive lines, and special teams and relaying calls to our kicker. The head coach I worked with was a bit of a control freak and never let the assistants make their own calls. There were so many times, when I begged and pleaded him to tell me what he wanted...squib, deep, onside, rugby punt etc etc. And there were many times when he would completely ignore me and then be upset with the call that was made on the field. He wasn't ignoring on purpose...he was so enamored and distracted by what we are going to do on offense and defense and what play he was going to call next, that he just did not let special teams enter his mind. Now I am a head coach and I do not call plays. I let my trusted assistants call and send in play calls so that I can pay attention to the flow of the game and make critical decisions and manage the clock. Now I get it, its high school so obviously very different. But I think McDermott was so caught up in what defense they were going to play, that he allowed this mistake to happen. In my mind he should allow Frazier to make the calls and have his special teams coordinator trained in a way so that he knows that coach wants a squib in that situation. It's about communication and preparation and making sure your guys know what you want in situational football. I think the moral of the story is that Coach McDermott has to stop thinking like a defensive coordinator and think like a head coach. I do believe he will learn from this. This situational stuff is what the Belichick's of the world excel in, but it takes time to get there. Andy Reid was the absolute worst at situational football. Now he is one of the best.. Every situation is always covered and so there are no surprises and confusion in the moment. Heath Farwell should not be axed over this, unless he ignored a directive from coach McDermott. No one should be fired. Everyone simply needs to get better. -
I do think there is a chance Trubisky is back if another opportunity does not materialize. That said, I think the backup next year is Kyle Allen. I don't know if the WFT tender him considering he is coming of an injury. I think you bring in K. Allen and he competes with Davis Webb. Allen is a young guy with upside who won't give away the game. The other guy that makes a ton of sense is Jacoby Brissett. He is a UFA and he has some starting experience. he is also versed in the E-P offensive system. I think he is about as solid you can get on a backup. No thanks to Fitzy.

Frazier getting second interview with Joe Schoen and NYG
MrEpsYtown replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall
Makes sense. It seems like Daboll has been pretty picky over the years, and that is not necessarily a bad thing. There are better coaching situations out there, and I am not sure he is totally built for New York media. -
Quinn is gonna have to send a fruit basket to Micah Parsons as an act of gratitude if he gets another HC job.

Should the Bills extend Edmunds?
MrEpsYtown replied to Victory Formation's topic in The Stadium Wall
I am very conflicted on this, and I am not sure where to go with it. It has been said in this thread that Tremaine seems like a guy who would be more effective in another more attacking scheme, a Baltimore type of defense. It reminds me of a "Poz not wanting to play in a 3-4" situation. I am not sure where I stand. I do think that the coaches ask a lot of Tremaine and that is why he never makes splash plays or seems like he is always out of position. I think they ask him to do things that other backers aren't asked to do. And that's the thing. When you look at coaches tape etc, I think he is probably a very effective player, and that is where the "coaches love him, fans do not notion" comes from. That said, if you are trying to formulate a trade, I think you have to look to other players who have had their 5th year option picked up who are likely not long for their current team. Now, I am not saying we should move on from Tremaine 100% because I am not there yet. But if we do, these are the options imo: Option 1 is Bradley Chubb. He has been effective in the past and had some sacks. He was hurt and terrible this year. I also think he is a base 4-3 end who is playing outside linebacker. I think he is a great fit for what we want to do. This would depend on who Denver hires. His salary replaces Hughes and Addison and takes Edmunds off the books. Option 2 is Daron Payne. I don't think Washington wants to move him, but they have a glaring hole at linebacker that they have not been able to fill. Also, it will be hard for them to pay Payne as well as the rest of those guys on the defensive line. He would be a beast next to Ed. All that said, we are kind of creating a similar problem for ourselves, because you may not be able to extend Oliver and Payne. I also think a possibility is Montez Sweat. He has been very good when healthy, and since he is a member of the 2019 draft class, they will have to make a decision on his fifth year option soon. Can they afford all these guys? Option 3 is Saquon Barkley, but I am not sure that is fully doable. Now if you trade Tremaine, you have to fill the hole. Maybe AJ Klein is okay for a year while you draft and develop another linebacker. This is not ideal for a team with Super Bowl aspirations, but KC just did this with Nick Bolton. Free agents that make some sense De'Vondre Campbell, Leighton Vander Esch, Josey Jewell, Jayon Brown, Anthony Walker Jr., Ja'waun Bentley, Kwon Alexander And here is the thing...inside off ball linebackers are usually pretty undervalued. So you can get a guy who will likely be cheaper than Tremaine's fifth year option. The question is, can you find a guy who can project to handle the assignments that he is given? -
Just connecting dots. Dorsey got most of his training and development under Shula and Chudzinski. I believe he even played for Chudz. Since Dorsey would be an inexperienced OC, I think the move is to bring in a more experienced guy to be the QB coaching working under Dorsey. Those two guys are connected to Dorsey and HC and readily available.

Chicago needs a stabilizer. Hiring another hot shot OC-DC without any head coaching experience is probably the wrong move. They just went through this with Nagy. They also need a calming force and teacher to develop Fields. If I am them, I work to get a package deal. Frazier for head coach, Caldwell for OC. Both have head coaching coaching experience. This set up allows Caldwell to focus pretty much all his energies on Fields without having to deal with the pressures of being a head coach. With the experience those guys have, I think they could put together a pretty good staff.

McDermott end of season press conference
MrEpsYtown replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall
Thoughts on the Toyota Supra? I am approaching midlife crisis. -
Speaking as a high school coach, the time to onside was after we scored to go up 4. They'd never expect it. Yeah you give them a short field, but a field goal doesn't win the game. They had to score a touchdown there regardless and they scored it in like two seconds anyway. If you recover the ball, you gain a possession there and likely ice the game, or at the very least, force them to use timeouts. But, the onside kick rules make them so improbable to recover that I would not do it.

Yeah that makes sense. My stance is that if they aren't going to invest in a slot guy, might as well invest in two tight ends who can play in the slot. Maybe a cheaper guy might be Ian Thomas, who they seemed to really like at draft time. Maybe a Maxx Williams type guy.
