  1. I agree...but the Chiefs are 100% in this team's head.
  2. Meh. They need to re-sign Orlando Brown, and they will. Other than that, guys are replaceable. This past offseason they replaced all 5 offensive linemen and some defensive players and they were fine. The just beat us without Honey Badger.
  3. The Colts only won 1 Super Bowl because of Tom Brady. It didn't matter who the Colts coach was. All of the hate McDermott is getting is leaving out the part that Patrick Mahomes et al are really good. McDermott has made tactical errors, but he has made a number of mistakes his first couple of years and has certainly shown he has learned from them. He will learn from this and be better. Yeah it should have never happened, and if it happens again, see ya later. There has to a growth mindset and an understanding that there is a process and people get better. They will pivot a bit and do more to surround Josh with better players and continue to develop our own. That's my 2 cents.
  4. This is the correct answer. You can't rush 4, spy, and cover. We lacerate Edmunds on this board, but people want to add more and more to his plate.
  5. Ok, so to preface, I love McDermott. I think he does a good job, and he has taken this team out of the abyss. That said, this is his fault. A few points...so i am a high school football coach, and have been since 2007. As an assistant for many years, I was in charge the offensive and defensive lines, and special teams and relaying calls to our kicker. The head coach I worked with was a bit of a control freak and never let the assistants make their own calls. There were so many times, when I begged and pleaded him to tell me what he wanted...squib, deep, onside, rugby punt etc etc. And there were many times when he would completely ignore me and then be upset with the call that was made on the field. He wasn't ignoring on purpose...he was so enamored and distracted by what we are going to do on offense and defense and what play he was going to call next, that he just did not let special teams enter his mind. Now I am a head coach and I do not call plays. I let my trusted assistants call and send in play calls so that I can pay attention to the flow of the game and make critical decisions and manage the clock. Now I get it, its high school so obviously very different. But I think McDermott was so caught up in what defense they were going to play, that he allowed this mistake to happen. In my mind he should allow Frazier to make the calls and have his special teams coordinator trained in a way so that he knows that coach wants a squib in that situation. It's about communication and preparation and making sure your guys know what you want in situational football. I think the moral of the story is that Coach McDermott has to stop thinking like a defensive coordinator and think like a head coach. I do believe he will learn from this. This situational stuff is what the Belichick's of the world excel in, but it takes time to get there. Andy Reid was the absolute worst at situational football. Now he is one of the best.. Every situation is always covered and so there are no surprises and confusion in the moment. Heath Farwell should not be axed over this, unless he ignored a directive from coach McDermott. No one should be fired. Everyone simply needs to get better.
  6. I do think there is a chance Trubisky is back if another opportunity does not materialize. That said, I think the backup next year is Kyle Allen. I don't know if the WFT tender him considering he is coming of an injury. I think you bring in K. Allen and he competes with Davis Webb. Allen is a young guy with upside who won't give away the game. The other guy that makes a ton of sense is Jacoby Brissett. He is a UFA and he has some starting experience. he is also versed in the E-P offensive system. I think he is about as solid you can get on a backup. No thanks to Fitzy.
  7. Makes sense. It seems like Daboll has been pretty picky over the years, and that is not necessarily a bad thing. There are better coaching situations out there, and I am not sure he is totally built for New York media.
  8. Quinn is gonna have to send a fruit basket to Micah Parsons as an act of gratitude if he gets another HC job.
  9. I am very conflicted on this, and I am not sure where to go with it. It has been said in this thread that Tremaine seems like a guy who would be more effective in another more attacking scheme, a Baltimore type of defense. It reminds me of a "Poz not wanting to play in a 3-4" situation. I am not sure where I stand. I do think that the coaches ask a lot of Tremaine and that is why he never makes splash plays or seems like he is always out of position. I think they ask him to do things that other backers aren't asked to do. And that's the thing. When you look at coaches tape etc, I think he is probably a very effective player, and that is where the "coaches love him, fans do not notion" comes from. That said, if you are trying to formulate a trade, I think you have to look to other players who have had their 5th year option picked up who are likely not long for their current team. Now, I am not saying we should move on from Tremaine 100% because I am not there yet. But if we do, these are the options imo: Option 1 is Bradley Chubb. He has been effective in the past and had some sacks. He was hurt and terrible this year. I also think he is a base 4-3 end who is playing outside linebacker. I think he is a great fit for what we want to do. This would depend on who Denver hires. His salary replaces Hughes and Addison and takes Edmunds off the books. Option 2 is Daron Payne. I don't think Washington wants to move him, but they have a glaring hole at linebacker that they have not been able to fill. Also, it will be hard for them to pay Payne as well as the rest of those guys on the defensive line. He would be a beast next to Ed. All that said, we are kind of creating a similar problem for ourselves, because you may not be able to extend Oliver and Payne. I also think a possibility is Montez Sweat. He has been very good when healthy, and since he is a member of the 2019 draft class, they will have to make a decision on his fifth year option soon. Can they afford all these guys? Option 3 is Saquon Barkley, but I am not sure that is fully doable. Now if you trade Tremaine, you have to fill the hole. Maybe AJ Klein is okay for a year while you draft and develop another linebacker. This is not ideal for a team with Super Bowl aspirations, but KC just did this with Nick Bolton. Free agents that make some sense De'Vondre Campbell, Leighton Vander Esch, Josey Jewell, Jayon Brown, Anthony Walker Jr., Ja'waun Bentley, Kwon Alexander And here is the thing...inside off ball linebackers are usually pretty undervalued. So you can get a guy who will likely be cheaper than Tremaine's fifth year option. The question is, can you find a guy who can project to handle the assignments that he is given?
  10. Just connecting dots. Dorsey got most of his training and development under Shula and Chudzinski. I believe he even played for Chudz. Since Dorsey would be an inexperienced OC, I think the move is to bring in a more experienced guy to be the QB coaching working under Dorsey. Those two guys are connected to Dorsey and HC and readily available.
  11. Chicago needs a stabilizer. Hiring another hot shot OC-DC without any head coaching experience is probably the wrong move. They just went through this with Nagy. They also need a calming force and teacher to develop Fields. If I am them, I work to get a package deal. Frazier for head coach, Caldwell for OC. Both have head coaching coaching experience. This set up allows Caldwell to focus pretty much all his energies on Fields without having to deal with the pressures of being a head coach. With the experience those guys have, I think they could put together a pretty good staff.
  12. Comp picks only for developing minority coaches and front office people who move on to a premium position.
  13. Thoughts on the Toyota Supra? I am approaching midlife crisis.
  14. Speaking as a high school coach, the time to onside was after we scored to go up 4. They'd never expect it. Yeah you give them a short field, but a field goal doesn't win the game. They had to score a touchdown there regardless and they scored it in like two seconds anyway. If you recover the ball, you gain a possession there and likely ice the game, or at the very least, force them to use timeouts. But, the onside kick rules make them so improbable to recover that I would not do it.
  15. Yeah that makes sense. My stance is that if they aren't going to invest in a slot guy, might as well invest in two tight ends who can play in the slot. Maybe a cheaper guy might be Ian Thomas, who they seemed to really like at draft time. Maybe a Maxx Williams type guy.
  16. I actually wanted Campbell last year. I am guessing he and the Packers do everything to keep him there, because it seems he finally found a home. But that dude is a good player and has been for some time, but he's a nomad.
  17. Yeah I could see Daboll pulling Hall or even Rob Boras, so if you are Buffalo, I guess you have to decide who you want to promote out of those three guys.
  18. Donte Jackson is kind of an interesting conversation as a DB. Former Panther who was drafted to play in Ron Rivera's system. You want speed? 4.32 40 works. He is somewhat slight of build and has had an up and down career so far with coaching changes and injuries and such. But I think the potential is there. Former teammate of Tre White at LSU, who advocated for the front office to draft Jackson in 2018. Maybe he was on our radar, but he went in the second round, and we traded those picks to move up for Josh and Tremaine. I do not think he will be back in Carolina, and quite honestly would be a big upgrade that will likely come at a reasonable cost. At about the 12 second mark, watch him chase down Jaylen Waddle: Some rookie year highlights, playing for Rivera:
  19. On the Daboll/Dorsey conversation, Dorsey is not necessarily his guy. Maybe he has become his guy. Dorsey is a Rob Chudzinski/Mike Shula guy. In fact, with Dorsey's relative inexperience, they should bring in Chudz or Shula as a special assistant or QBs coach under Dorsey who should be our OC. I can't see Dorsey turning down the OC job here to go with Daboll. Daboll has worked with a number of guys out there who could be his OC, so he doesn't necessarily have to scoop Dorsey. Now if McDermott has someone else in mind as an OC, then that is a different story.
  20. Watching Rich Eisen talk about Josh got me a little. I'm still in a little bit of a rut on it.
  21. Well, Gilmore is finally a former Panther, so that just may work
  22. To me Scherff has made a ton of money already. I am not saying he will come cheap, but I don't think he is looking to become the league's highest paid guard. I think he's the kind of guy who will want to find the right fit and win. Just my guess with no actual proof. High RAS score guy, who is an elite player. He's they guy I would pursue in this class. I don't love Conor Williams. I never really liked his game. But if they are turning the corner to going after high RAS guys, then Williams fits. He is long and tall, but lighter and athletic. He also holds a lot. But there is upside there. He is still very young and came out raw. If we are talking a young guard with upside, James Daniels is the guy. High RAS score. He was extremely young coming out and has since put on weight and gotten bigger and stronger. Extremely up and down career so far because of injury, but he's ready to lift off imo Corbett and Boseman are interesting guys, I like Bozeman more, but those are the types of guys teams like the Jets over pay for. I get there isn't a ton of money, but I think they get an o-line upgrade and a receiver upgrade.
  23. To me Scherff is the guy who ties this o-line together. And you have to think he is looking for a change and wanting to win. Andrew Norwell makes sense too, as a guy just below Scherff. DJ Chark would add a different dynamic, and his still young with upside coming off an injury again. If we get away from the small slot guy, Mike Gesicki, PSU guy with upside. I hate him, because he always makes plays against us, so go get him. two tight end sets, with he and Knox would create an interesting Dynamic, along with Diggs and Davis...those are some big, fast weapons.
  24. I think maybe guys in situations like Jerick McKinnon was last year. Signed a 1 year prove it, vet minimum deal, and now he is coming out smelling like roses because Mahomes and the rest of that team made him look good. BTW that is the type of player that would open up the offense even more. A guy who can run it between the tackles, but is also a really good receiver. Cordarrelle Patterson, McKinnon, JD McKissic (for real this time), perhaps a blazing Raheem Mostert coming off an injury. Increase team speed and flexibility.
  25. Definitely true. My point is that I would like to see some of those elements in what we are doing defensively to add a layer of difficulty and intrigue. There really is no right or wrong way. I was just answering the question about comp picks.
