2022 Offseason Primer Position Group: Defensive Line
MrEpsYtown replied to MAJBobby's topic in The Stadium Wall
And I know that Oliver is not Aaron Donald, but Aaron does not have to worry about gap integrity around him. The other guys on the line have to make him right. The Bills need to turn Oliver loose and have the other guys, who ain't getting to the QB anyway, cover for him and make him right. Let him pay to his strengths. -
Quinton Spain comments on release from the Bills
MrEpsYtown replied to Process's topic in The Stadium Wall
There is definitely some smoke there. Even though he graded out well with the Titans, they had no interest in re-signing him. Goes to free agency, complete crickets and has to accept a very low offer from the Bills. Plays well, and gets an extension and they dump him like it’s nothing. Now the Bengals are probably going to look for an upgrade and I expect Spain to have a pretty cold UFA again as everyone is going to remember that last play against Donald. -
2022 Offseason Primer Position Group: Defensive Line

I am not sure that playmakers are going to want to come play with Josh. He distributes the ball so much. Not saying that guys won’t want to play with him, but I don‘t know if it is going to be a big pull. If a guy wants to play with a great QB and just wants to win, and isn’t worried about touches, this is ideal. However, I think offensive linemen want to come play with him as he avoids sacks. I think where we may get that discount is guys who have never won a super bowl. Calais Campbell type of player who has been around awhile and wants a shot at a super bowl. Guys like Chandler Jones don’t work in this equation because he has a ring. Patrick Peterson, Justin Houston, maybe Brandon Scherff, Andrew Norwell, Reilly Reiff. Dudes who have already gotten paid, are older, and just want a ring. -

You are probably right. People always pay a premium for sacks. There is some boom or bust there, but Key gets to the quarterback, and that is, uh, key. -
Why are people always talking pass rusher?
MrEpsYtown replied to Marvlevydraftdaygenius's topic in The Stadium Wall
That guy this year is Cameron Thomas from San Diego State. I hope we draft him. -
Watching the super bowl, and watching Leonard Floyd, I thought about Edmunds. Floyd had all the strengths and physical traits of an edge player. The Bears draft him and play him on the edge sometimes, but also off ball linebacker in coverage, and he is not great. He wasn’t playing to his strengths. Essentially a bust. He goes to LA and gets to pin his ears back, set the edge and rush the passer. In six years he has 38.5 sacks. 20 of them came the last two years in LA. And it isn’t like he was playing with scrubs with Chicago. He just wasn’t being used right. I fear that Edmunds may have this same fate.

Key was also buds with Tre White at LSU. He is an interesting fit with upside. Heck bring the whole LSU gang back together…Key, Donte Jackson, DJ Chark. I think the projected contract for Key feels a bit high, but i like the idea and thinking. -
Rams Team Building Strategy Will It Be Duplicated or a Rareity
MrEpsYtown replied to corta765's topic in The Stadium Wall
I think teams, like the Bills need to consider moves like the Rams made. Trading for established assets rather than drafting a developing them is not the worst approach when you are in a super bowl window. Outside of those big fish though, the majority of that roster is home grown talent or undervalued guys signed to nice contract like Leonard Floyd and A'Shawn Robinson. The Rams haven't sold out completely. They lakc picks and flexibility going forward, but trading for a Miller or Odell is a better return on investment in the short term, than trying to draft somebody at the back end of the first and second round. i mean the Bills have 9 picks. 9 rookies on the roster next year going to help win a Super Bowl? I doubt it. We need quality over quantity. -
I am with you. This approach is quantity over quality, which is the wrong move. They are throwing a bunch of spaghetti at the wall to see what sticks. If you take all those contracts combined, you can probably sign two higher quality players. Crap is crap. Whether it's a big pile or a small, it's still crap. Meanwhile the Bengals grabbed two big fish for their D line in DJ Reader and Trey Hendrickson and all of a sudden they are in the Super Bowl. Add that to good drafting and a couple of smooth moves like acquiring BJ Hill and they have something going there.

Quinton Spain comments on release from the Bills
MrEpsYtown replied to Process's topic in The Stadium Wall
Not sure what he and Hopkins were doing on that play. Looked like Hopkins was going left all the way. Spain should have known he was getting help from the center. When Spain let Donald take that outside rush he couldn’t get help anymore as Hopkins was gonna be too late. Just looks like a big screw up. Maybe they called a slide to the right with that walk up blitzer and Hopkins went left when he saw the blitzer bail out. -
Beach chairs are back! (Kromer hired as OL Coach)
MrEpsYtown replied to MWK's topic in The Stadium Wall
I think they definitely bring in a guard of some sort. Brabdon Scherff is top of the line with Andrew Norwell and his Carolina connections. I like Corbett because he is still young with upside and he turned into a pretty good player. Corbett coming here would put some closure on the whole Wyatt Teller thing since Cleveland traded Corbett because he was a bust for them and ended up replacing him with Teller. Full circle, kind of. Other Kromer guys who will be available are Austin Blythe and Kyle Long. Blythe would be a nice replacement for Feliciano after he gets traded to the Giants. Blythe plays center and guard. Other guys who make sense are James Daniels and Conor Williams. I am not a Laken Tomlinson guy, but he makes sense as well. There will be options for sure. -
Bills Hire Kyle Shurmur, Son of Pat Shurmur
MrEpsYtown replied to JGMcD2's topic in The Stadium Wall
From all accounts Kyle is a very intelligent dude with some physical limitations. I get that he was a quarterback who will be working with the defense. If I need a guy to chart plays and prepare scout teams to help our defense, I want it to be a guy who played QB for our two biggest AFC rivals going forward, KC and Cincy. I think this is a genius, kind of shrewd move and I like it. He would have extensive knowledge of both offenses and he could make a difference for us. -
Ian Thomas of the Panthers has been mentioned a bunch of times here by others. I think he is a really good number 2 tight ed to pair with Knox. There was also a lot of smoke from us around Thomas during pre-draft times. I like Tommy Sweeney, but the fact that he was a frequent healthy scratch at the end there is a worrisome. Gerald Everett was mentioned in the thread. He did a lot of good things fr the Rams as their number two. If we are going to see some Rams wrinkles courtesy of Kromer, then he could make some sense as well. Knox is the clear 1.

Interesting for Mongo because he's going to have to look at real estate closer to East Rutherford. Ford is meh and Ike is an injured free agent. I am excited to see Kromer work with Bates (who is a RFA) and Spencer Brown. -

So do we want Nick Sorensen? Seems like an interesting dude who spent some time as a secondary coach in Seattle. -

I bet his contract was up. I believe assistant coaches get two or three year deals typically, and maybe he just wasn't asked back. -

Fine. As long as Blake Costanzo and Jon Corto are around somewhere. -

What's Bobby April doing these days? -
I feel pretty strongly that this dude is going to be elite soon. He is already pretty much the best tight end we have ever had. It doesn't mean you don't keep looking, because this is the kind of guy someone offers an absurd contract to. Knox's first 3 years are on par with everything Hunter Henry was doing.

Davis Webb on FA visit with NYG (update - signed)
MrEpsYtown replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall
Lost in all this 3rd string QB hoopla is the fact that the G men also plucked Jamie Gillan the Scotish punter guy. So if Haack is gone, who is next? Michael Palardy? College 80 yard guy? Some other person? -
Giants are hiring Don "Wink" Martindale as their DC
MrEpsYtown replied to Greg S's topic in The Stadium Wall
This enhances that James Bradberry conversation. He is a zone corner, for the most part. If he was on the "possible cuts" list already, I think this moves the needle closer to cut.
