You don't draft a guard in the 1st ... or do you?
MrEpsYtown replied to Thurman#1's topic in The Stadium Wall
But Thurm, it was a list of 20 years of first round guards all of whom except for 2 (1 as a starter and 1 as a backup) who have not won a Super Bowl. It isn't cliche, it's a fact. Look at all the super bowl winner the last 20 years and many of those lines are put together in the mid rounds. Whether Bates came in or not, I don't think anything in our fate changed last year if say Boettger stays healthy. And btw, Bates and Boettger were both UDFAs. Don't draft these guys in the first round. You can get them everywhere. Now if we had a corner who wasn't slower than my grandmother whose dead, well then, our fate may have been different. Perhaps if we had higher level talent to fill in for Tre'davious White as well. That changes our fate. A guard does not. You want to win a super bowl or draft a solid guard? That's the choice in my mind. Winning is how you measure success. -
With the 51st pick in the 2022 NFL Draft, the Philadelphia Eagles select Breece Hall, RB, Iowa State. This is Philly's MO. Draft defensive guys high, take a running back in the second or third. Miles Sanders is a free agent after this year, so the Eagles are in rinse and repeat mode and Hall replaces Jordan Howard while injecting speed into the offense. Sandres and Hall can split carries this year as Hall takes over full time next year as they do not want to pay a running back. Hall is a nice fit for the one cut read option game that the Eagles employ and they meet with Hall at teh combine. They want to surround Jalen Hurts with the best weapons possible to figure out if he is really the guy. The Steelers and @RyanC883 are now on the clock.

Definitely valid points, but Bojorquez is actually right handed. Lefty kicker but right hand dominant. I don’t know how rare that is, but it’s a fun fact in his bio.

This doesn’t pass the smell test. It makes sense for the Bills to package picks like the did in the Dion Dawkins draft to wind up with multiple 2s and 3s. A move like that makes sense. A move up in the first really doesn’t. The only vet trade move that would get you up is probably 25 and Dawkins to get 6. Rhule loves Dawkins and they need a LT bad. But a trade like that makes no sense for us because your franchise left tackle who protects your franchise QB would be gone and you just create another hole. All that to draft a corner? Another LT? Hanilton to play big nickel as some have suggested…seriously??? Yeah I don’t think so. Dion is the only player outside of Josh Allen who could get you up there. Poyer, Edmunds, etc etc ain’t doing it. So all that said, maybe the Bills make a minor move up if someone they like starts slipping into the late teens. But the rumor of trade ups is probably coming from the idea that they probably don’t want to draft 8 guys. Package picks to move up and down the board and get 5 guys you targeted.

Yeah he’s not trying hold his gap and protect linebackers…he’s looking to physically demolish whoever is in front of him. That plays anywhere imo.

I love McCall. Just beat the heck out of Tyler Linderbaum in the Iowa game. He isn’t just a big plugger.
-
I like Howell. I dont’t know if any QB really comes through this year, but I think Howell will be around the longest, even if he stays a backup.

The thing that bothers me about Strange is that he’s old. That’s fine when you are a finished product, but he is raw and old. He is like 8 months younger than Ryan Bates. Something like that. But I do like Strange.

Like our teams looks good on paper, but if we don’t add a corner better than Jackson we ain’t winning the super bowl. Maybe we draft a guard and it helps Josh put up more points. But we don’t get a corner, we likely won’t win. -

Nah man, my argument is that if they picked a different player at a more dynamic position they have a better chance at a super bowl victory. IMO what yields super bowl victories is dynamic players at high impact positions. 1 QB in the last 20 years is a tiny sample and a complete anomaly. Every first round guard for the last 20 years and only 1 gets a super bowl as a starter? Now that’s a pattern. -
One other is Isaiah Likely from Coastal Carolina. I study their stuff and have stolen a bunch of their plays for my high school team. That dude can play. Reminds me a bit of Charles Clay before we signed him and he started to suck.

I guess you can count Jordan Mailata who went from Rugby to starting left tackle. And he’s pretty good. Alejandro Villanueva played DL, LT, and WR! at Army and transitioned to a pretty good left tackle, but did play a good amount of it in college so not sure he counts. But yeah the transition usually goes in the other direction. Our three projected IOL starters were LT’s who moved inside.

I really like D’Marco Jackson from App State. A modern linebacker who will probably wind up a starter somewhere at some point. Dominque Robinson defensive end from Miami Ohio really stood out to me in the Combine drills. Good bend and lean, strong hands. Luke Fortner from Kentucky is going to be a 10 year starter at center somewhere.

Man I like Mafe too. The bad part about draft crushes is that you only get to have one, if the team even picks one. But I am going to follow his career wherever he winds up. Except if its the Patriots

Great upside pick there. Excellent value and fit imo

And my point is that there are two guys on that list whose teams won a Super Bowl, Kendall Simmons with the Steelers and Chance Warmack as a backup with Philly. The impact just isn’t there. A lot of those teams would love to have those picks back. And I am not arguing that a lot of those aren’t all pros, but those picks are better spent elsewhere imo. -
Bills jersey number changes and new player jersey numbers thread
MrEpsYtown replied to Logic's topic in The Stadium Wall
There are probably going to be a bunch of changes like this coming. When they changed the number rules, guys had to buy back unsold jerseys or something for the first year or two. I believe that it is now a free for all. Johnson wore 1 at Weber State...Sanders is gone so maybe Diggs took 1? Poyer wore 14 in college I could see Tre going to 18. Hyde also wore 18 at Iowa. Maybe Milano going to 28, his BC number. Ed Oliver could take 10. -
TSW Mock Draft Buffalo Bills Poll - Who should the Bills take at 25?

Yeah that seems to be the talk around Chicago. I was paying attention to them a bit during Ryan Bates watch. -

And the Bears are already considering him at RT or guard. -
I dunno, I thought the Jordan Phillips thread from three years ago was pretty weird.

TSW Mock Draft Buffalo Bills Poll - Who should the Bills take at 25?

I always respect you takes. I just love McDuffie. He's one of my draft crushes this year. I just see so many things he does that project so well into what we do. McDuffie seems like the anti Levi Wallace. He was slow and smooth, kinda let the game develop, but it was too slow. I think you can slow McDuffie down a bit as he processes things, and while he may not be a great fit for everyone, I feel like he is for us. His recognition of route combinations and film work I think is the thing that will allow him to keep up with those savvy guys. But I feel you on Gordon as well. I really like him too and I am interested to see the order in which the corners go. As long as we don't draft a IOL, right tackle or running back in the first round, I think I will be satisfied. -

MrEpsYtown replied to Virgil's topic in The Stadium Wall
I think Woolen is a very interesting prospect, but he is raw and going to take a minute, especially in a scheme like ours. McDuffie already does all of the things he would be asked to do in this defense at a high level and his instincts are off the charts. His football iQ is crazy good. McDuffie could help get us to the Super Bowl this year. I like Gordon's projection for us as well. Woolen may be better in a few years, but it's boom or bust. -
Guys who are punting prospects know that they will have to hold in the NFL. So they have to be doing it in all of their training leading up to the draft. I am guessing teams make them do it on workout visits and pro days. I am not sure since no one cares about punting workouts. I guess my point is, Bojo has been in the league for 4 years no and his holding still sucks. That's on him. I think he is done in the league as a starting punter. He simply is not good enough to accept his deficiencies.
