JT knows his stuff and he was a Saint, so he would be very familiar with the playbook. It’s all E-P staples like juke, dagger, hoss etc. All good stuff.

Can we predict this weeks draft based on McBeane’s history?
MrEpsYtown replied to LEBills's topic in The Stadium Wall
I think this is a really good point. I think on some level age is a factor, but this is a win now team so older prospects don’t bother me as much as they usually would. Pearsall has some savvy and complexity to his game that makes him a guy who can step in right away. At the same time he might have limited upside from what he is right now. On the other hand, Leggette is more raw for an older prospect. But to me, with this roster I think you just want day 1 contributors who are hired, cheap guns for the next 4 years. I want my first round pick to be a younger guy because he is hopefully an impact player who will be around for 5 plus a second contract. That’s just my 2 cents on the topic. -

Pearsall makes a ton of sense in that second wave. He is versatile, runs pretty good routes, catches everything and can get open deep. I said in a post somewhere that I think, again just my opinion, based on what Beane was saying its Worthy, Franklin, McConkey and maybe Leggette as guys who fit what he described he wants. In the next batch it’s really Pearsall who makes the most sense imo. -
Pegulas selling 25% of the Bills, per Tim Graham

Dude let’s all pool some cash together. Then we can all be in the draft room. -
After them, I would say Burton. After that Walker and to a lesser extent Pearsall.
-
In terms of vertical threats IMO: Thomas Worthy Mitchell Franklin Leggette

I do think it will be very difficult to come away with 2 of Worthy, McConkey, Franklin, Leggette...but possible! I guess the challenge is to identify the next group of guys who seem to fit their "type." Corley and Washinton are probably just RAC slots. Cowing is a guy I like a lot but he is probably just a slot. Baker, Pearsall, and Thrash seem to check a bunch of those boxes and seem like the type they like as multi-purpose receivers. Walker, McMillan and Rice to some extent are very interesting and check some of those boxes.

Beane's thoughts about WR and the offense kind of reflect my own. The E-P offense they run is about route running, understanding spacing and concepts, reliability, and versatility. To me, the most important thing Beane said was: Essentially they would love to have a #1 but it is not something they need. "In this offense, you need guys who are smart, versatile, selfless, and can make the plays that their skillset allows them to make. If it's a tall guy that Josh is going to throw a 50/50 ball, he has to come down with it. If it's a guy who want to get the ball in his hands and get some RAC, he has to do that." That is the most telling to me. If the guy is big he has to play big. If a guy is supposed to be fast he needs to play fast. Also they aren't going to ask a slow guy to get RAC or little guys to play big. Gabe Davis, big, didn't play big, did not run good routes, not really versatile. Did not make plays when counted on. Gone. Deonte Harty, was supposed to be fast and get RAC and be a downfield threat...did none of that and he is gone. Diggs smart, versatile, not selfless...dogged it at times. Did not make the plays he was supposed to make as a #1. Gone. Smart, versatile, selfless players...guys who don't care who is getting the ball, are going to run their routes hard and be where they are supposed to be. Everything Beane says narrows it down in my mind. The guys who meet those criteria who will go early outside the top three are Worthy, Franklin, McConkey, and to a lesser extent Leggette. Thomas does play big and I can see him as a guy they like. I really like him, but I am not sure he offers what Beane is talking about. Same with Coleman and AD Mitchell, who I like. I am not a betting man, but I would bet on Worthy, McConkey or Franklin being their guy.

Yeah I like Shorter but it’s feeling very Vosean Joseph like. IRed and then waived in year two. Shorter never play a down. Joseph was picked 1 pick before Dre Greenlaw and a few picks before Andrew Van Ginkel, Blake Cashman and EJ Speed. Shorter ofcourse went a few picks before Dantayvion Wicks and Puka Nacua. Now I’m not sure he has an avenue to make the roster.

Media Day at OBD (Beane, McDermott, Josh & more)
MrEpsYtown replied to Process's topic in The Stadium Wall
It's probably posturing, but I have been saying the whole number 1 receiver thing is extremely overblown in today's offenses, especially this scheme which is designed on concepts and spreading the ball around. It would be nice to have a guy like Jefferson or Chase, but you don't have to force the issue for a guy in this draft. -

The obsession with backup quarterbacks still sustains here huh. -

I wonder if Cooper DeJean will play -
This Austin Booker guy's situation is weird so it's a bit of a red flag. He's at Minnesota for two years redshirts the first, barely plays the second, transfers to Kansas and puts up 8 sacks in 12 games. Now he's coming out as a redshirt sophomore. He only played like 500 snaps in his college career. He's a long, lean athletic edge player with a crazy motor. He is raw in some ways but his rush technique is pretty advanced. I have no idea where he is going to go in the draft but Lance Zeirlein's comp for him is Maxx Crosby. He also did a nice job at the Senior Bowl. I think he is a pretty unique situation with a lot of potential. He could fall or he could be overdrafted.

Thomas is my guy. I like the other guys too, but he just makes the most sense to me.

Best examples of failed 1st rounders who revived their careers?
MrEpsYtown replied to Rubes's topic in The Stadium Wall
I remember when the Bears drafted an athletic explosive edge player in Floyd so high in the top 10 and turned him into an offball inside LB in a 3-4…it’s no surprise he had success when other teams put him on the edge. Just utter nonsense from the Bears at that time. Sometimes these football people outthink themselves -
Yep. Rudolph the message board hero.
-
The Bills have done a pretty good job identifying these guys as UDFA the last couple of years with Raheem Blackshear in 2022, and Antonio Williams in 2020. Normally I don't love using draft picks for RBs, but we have so many late-round picks it makes sense to spend a 5 or 6 on one.
-
I would wait until the 5th or 6th to go down that hole. There are also a good number of vets still out there JK Dobbins, Dalvin Cook, Boston Scott, Zeke Elliot, Kareem Hunt, Cam Akers...dudes who at some point are going to have to take a nothing deal. Cam Akers is the same age as a bunch of these guys in the draft.

What do you think about Braiden McGregor? He made some big plays for Michigan, he is long and athletic and sets the edge. His sack production was so-so, but as a rotational piece, I think he could fit well here. He seems like a guy who has fallen through the cracks a bit. A little under the radar.
-
To me the two reasons that people were upset is that Leggette and McConkey were gone at 41 and that the board was not great at 58 (which was not affected by the trade down at all.)
-
I considered him and a WR hard for GB, but need won out there.

With the 60th pick in the TSW mock draft 2024 2.0 the Green Bay Packers select Junior Colson, LB, Michigan LBs this year are very interesting and they are all very different. Colson to me is the best of all worlds. He is strong, experienced, young at 21, he can cover and has some speed. His instincts flash at times and he is very gap-sound. In terms of fit, Green Bay is switching to a 4-3 defense after being a 3-4 for many years. They lack talent at the off-ball linebacker position so this is a pretty huge need. They have Quay Walker. At the other spot Isiahah McDuffie, who played for new DC Jim Halfey at BC has the inside track at starting and they have been talking him up. But Colson is on a whole other level and would free Walker up to do what he does best and run and chase. Coach LaFluer talked about the transition to a 4-3 and said he does not want to get tiny in the transition. He wants big dudes who can run and that's Colson. At 6-2. 238 with long arms, he has a stout and athletic frame. He has some work to do, but there is a very interesting and solid player in there. He is ridiculously tough. Dude breaks his hand in a game and never comes out. They wrap it up and he doesn't even miss a play. He gets X-rays at the half, casts it up, and finishes the game. That's the kind of dude I want as my middle linebacker. He has yet to work out, so no RAS numbers. He is also squeaky clean off the field: I am pretty happy with DeJean, Fautanu, and Colson. Plugged holes and got better. Detroit and @GunnerBill are now on the clock.
-
I think it is possible, but they just have not shown an affinity for drafting that position high, whereas they have gone after the defense quite a bit.
-
I mean who else is left whose contract could be re-worked? Oliver maybe?

If Thomas is there I think he is the pick. If he is gone... If Turner, Latu, Verse, Newton, or Murphy are there, I think they would sprint to the podium. Maybe Chop as well. If those guys are gone, and Thomas is gone, I think if Arnold, Mitchell, or DeJean are there he is going to definitely think long and hard about it. I think they would consider all of those guys over the next tier of WRs. But I still think Thomas is the pick regardless of who is there. JMO.
