"Better" is a relative term. Those games could have gone either way, especially today since the Bills went in with an already-decimated roster.

Poor coaching by McDermott is becoming a theme
twoandfourteen replied to Einstein's topic in The Stadium Wall
I would agree, but those losses include ridiculous weather involvement for some of those games. There's only so much we could reasonably expect from this decimated team today. It's a tough loss, but I'm ok letting Miami enjoy their Super Bowl here in Week 2 on their way to irrelevance come December. -

Nevermind that all of the other games over the course of that stretch have been won by double digits. 20-0 is pretty good in those games if you ask me. -
The guy has won 20 straight games by double digits. I'm pretty sure he's learned how to be a savage and put teams away. The Patriots and the Dolphins can credit both of their narrow victories primarily to Mother Nature, not to anything they did on the field.

The problem is that Ol' School McD is looking to build an offense that scores 17 points a game and a defense that allows the opponent to score 13. That is a recipe for many, many blowout losses and 3-4 win seasons. Where the league is going, the offense will need to score at least 30 every week. Pair that with a defense that can weather the storm and hold the opposition to between 24-28.

Is our offensive roster good now?

WTF with the “feel bad for Peterman” posts?
twoandfourteen replied to eball's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
No you don't. Tyrod vs the Saints was about as bad of a game as any starting QB can have in the NFL. He just avoids INTs by not throwing the ball. He also avoids points and yards as well -- that's why we had to move on. TT was the exact same QB in Cleveland and it lasted all of three games. That's not exactly a high bar to cross. He was one of our better QBs of the past 20 years -- but not as good as Bledsoe, Fitz, Orton, or Flutie. Better than JP, Trent, Brian, EJ, Cardale, Thad, or Jeff. Congratulations on being better than "absolute garbage". -
Peterman to Patriots? They always liked him.

Can't do it. He has too much experience on the active roster. NP is ineligible for the PS. -
Who's the worst team in the league now ?
twoandfourteen replied to 1st&ten's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Hate to tell you, but one nice game against a struggling team that gave up on their head coach doesn't suddenly make the Bills a contender. The Bills are still a bottom 3 team, depending on the week. But I'll enjoy this one -- it was great to watch a competent QB run the offense for a change. -
Game Balls vs. the Jets
twoandfourteen replied to 26CornerBlitz's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Wrong. It was the passing game that opened up things for the running backs. Barkley hitting Foster on the 1st play changed everything. Had the Jets on their heels from that point forward. When will people realize that running the football is the most ineffective way to move an offense? -
For who exactly? There really isn't a "can't miss" offensive star at the top of the next draft. If they're tanking for another defensive player, then they should be fired immediately for having absolutely no grasp on the modern NFL. While I'd like to agree with you, stubbornness & arrogance have sunk many a man throughout human history. It appears McD & BB have an overabundance of both.
-
Exactly. People are upset because this coach & GM set off on a backwards plan to build around a defense & outdated running game first, rather than use all of their assets and capital to assemble a cutting-edge, high-octane offense that can make a team an actual contender. That should have been the priority from day 1. Passing yards & lots of points are what consistently wins in the modern NFL. Speed kills. Yet, these two clowns continue to talk about "field position" & "the weather" & "establish the run".
-
So... trading a 3rd round pick for Kelvin Benjamin and trading UP for Zay Jones don't count? If you're correct (You're not) that these are just temporary players holding down roster spots, then McDermott should be fired for wasting picks and not recognizing the value of draft capital. You are literally making an even better case for McD & BB to be removed.
-
McDermott personally identified and built just about the entire offense. The only holdovers are LeSean McCoy & Charles Clay. The QBs, the OCs (one already failed, one currently failing), 4 of the 5 starting OL, all of the WRs... McD picked all of them. The offense is HIS offense. This historically bad offense is the product of HIS management. Also, Mike Tolbert.

Go read my man Reed83HOF's post from a few minutes ago. BB just happens to be a defensive coach who realized how stupid it was to prioritize defense and the running game over a decade ago. He evolved and dictated where the league was going to go. It helped that he also had the best QB to ever play the game, too. But he didn't have Tommy hand off 30 times a game to "establish the line of scrimmage" -- he unleashed an innovative nuclear passing attack on the league. Pretty much aligns exactly with what I'm saying. You are really not very good at this. How many 20+ point blowout losses does McD have so far? You are really, really not very good at this.
-
I'm sure that has absolutely NOTHING to do with the fact that the Bears fired their old-school "defensive-minded" head coach and then hired a bright, young, innovative offensive-minded coach. Thank you for making yet another very strong case for firing McDermott ASAP. I appreciate it. I wish I could give this post 2 trophies.

When $90M isn't really $90M...
twoandfourteen replied to twoandfourteen's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
That's exactly the point of my original post. Thank you for agreeing with me. They may have $90M to spend, but every player they sign will cost them significantly more than any other team would have to spend. Free Agency is not going to be a solution to the Offensive problems. Also, the overpayment in terms of total dollars and contract length that the Bills will have to shell out to mediocre talent will only serve to put them in salary cap jail in a few years when these average players inevitably burst into flames. McDermott & Beane have already set this team back until 2023. The only hope they have is that Josh Allen turns into Peyton Roethlisbrady next season and is so good that he is able to overcome the abject offensive incompetence of the coaching staff.
