Why Belichick is so brilliant...

I really don't like how McDermott doesn't seem to value timeouts. -
Will offense operate better with Barkley next week?

Yeah, I have been saying that since his good game last year. He can win a game for you. But if he has to play 3-4 he's at the bottom of the league. Granted, in 2019 there are not a lot of good backup QBs. I think he can help Josh. I'm okay with him as our backup. But he has severe limitations, which was why he was drafted in the fourth round even though he has 90% of the qualities you want in a QB. If you have a rag arm you cannot be good over time. That deossnt of course mean if you have a good arm you will be good. But fans don't often understand why guys like Peterman and Barkley and Kellen Moore cannot ever be good. If Kellen Moore had even a decent arm he likely would have been an Alex Smith kind of QB. But he didn't so he couldn't. Barkley is in that class. If he had 10% more arm he would be a valuable player. -
Yeah, you could say that. But it was an illegal hit to the head that knocks him out. That could happen to any QB anywhere on the field. I really don't think his health is hurt any more from his running than it would be if he never ran. Our pass blocking is suspect. Last year it was abysmal. QBs seem to get hurt when their legs are planted weird. He's bigger than half the defenders he's running against. He's country strong and athletic. He was hurt not because he ran but because the defender went for his head. That could have happened in the pocket, too, if he decided not to run. Plus it's his value ad. I worry more about ball security than him getting hurt.

Yup. He's just not good. He's capable of the great or booming punt but he's unreliable, which is exactly what you don't want. I thought that Bellichick knew he was slow and gambled and won.

That was a phenomenal catch. If someone did that for Allen it would have been a first. Not to mention that Barkley can lob the ball like that. He's decent if not good at it. But he cannot throw several throws an NFL QB must throw. -

I don't know if this is the best analogy but right now, 15 or so starts into his career, Josh Allen is Nolan Ryan. He's not going to have a great ERA, he's going to walk a bunch of guys, he's going to make mistakes but you win with him. -
If he took the outside guy the inside guy had a better chance to block it.

A decent snap and it's not blocked. And Ferguson is a good snapper. Bellichick knew that Bojo is left footed obviously, and is slow to get the ball off. So he gambled and it worked. But it wouldn't have with a normal snap. -

There is no question that getting rid of the ball quickly and decisively can make up for other flaws. But there has been one guy imo in 30 years that has succeeded with an arm like Barkley and that is Pennington after surgery and he was an extraordinarily smart QB. People say Montana didn't have a strong arm but he could make all the throws and often did. Barkley cannot. -

No. He's terrible because of his arm the way Peterman is. Watch his games. He was awful on Philly, he was awful on Chicago, he has 10 TDs and 19 INTs. If you go back and watch the Jet game last year he did not throw one pass that showed an NFL arm. He threw a bunch of accurate lobs that became completions for various reasons. But several of them could have been INTs too. He has an inefficient NFL arm like Peterman does. It's slightly better but not enough. If he had a decent arm he would be pretty good and maybe very good. Because he has a lot of other talents. But it's a death knell and it showed today too. No one wanted him before we signed him. You can argue that he was hurt but that was not the reason and the fact that we signed him to an embarrassing deal for a backup QB is proof. If Barkley had Dilfers arm he would be Dilfer. That would be a good comparison. But Dilfer had a arm that could make all the throws. Barkley does not. -

Barkley is Peterman 1.0. He's not good. He's capable of the game against the Jets last year if he gets a boatload of luck. He has a terrible arm and it showed again today. He's okay for a half or maybe a game but he's awful. If he had a decent arm he would be a starter in this league. But he doesn't. He was a fourth round pick because he had everything but an arm and it's a death knell. -

Barkley is not good. He's way overrated here. Josh benefits by experience imo. He's a different kind of guy. Three minutes to go, even today when he was awful at times, I wouldn't bet against him. He's still raw. He's going to make more mistakes than most guys. But he has intangibles and playmaking ability that override a lot of it -

It is not obvious. . Josh gives them much better chance. -
horrible game decisions my Coach McD

It wasn't from the one it was from the four. It was an easy choice to kick. Plus Barkley is much, much more likely to get you a FG than a TD late.
