Because the jail time was going to be six months or less. And he was convicted partly on his own words, bragging numerous times he was going to openly defy the court order. -

"Want to see the tent where all the Mexicans are?" Arpaio asks in a conspiratorial whisper. "Huh?" The curtain is back open. And so here we are in the triple-digit heat, entering the sheriff's Tent City, where thousands of inmates he and deputies have picked up live in the open, biding their time for misdemeanors ranging from drunk driving to street-level drug dealing. "August 2nd, 1993, right here," Arpaio says, poking a bit of gravel with his foot where he broke ground on the site. "My favorite spot." From the start, the jail was notorious for its minimalist living conditions, which Arpaio says have saved Maricopa County millions of dollars in building and operational costs. Arpaio fed prisoners two meals a day (valued at 30 cents each), banned cigarettes and coffee, and boasted that temperatures in the summer can hit 141 degrees. His constituents lapped it up, and the national press came calling. Arpaio brought back chain gangs and paraded prisoners through the streets to be jeered at. In 1996, he published his first book, America's Toughest Sheriff, which was praised by Sen. John McCain as "no-nonsense." Flanked by Arpaio's two large body men, we pass through a series of jail yards, first for the women (where one of Arpaio's deputies warns me, "Remember that you're a married man heh heh"), then for the male prisoners, who idle torpidly in the shade. Inside Arpaio's jails, according to the federal lawsuit, guards refer to Latino inmates as "wetbacks," "Mexican bitches," "stupid Mexicans" and "!@#$ing Mexicans." Female prisoners, the suit claims, were forced to sleep in their own menstrual blood; officers refused to respond to the inmates' pleas because they were made in Spanish. Meanwhile, Arpaio's jailers allegedly circulated e-mail images of a Chihuahua in a bathing suit, calling it "a rare photo of a Mexican Navy Seal." As the prisoners recognize Arpaio, he pulls out a pen and offers to sign autographs on postcards that show him playing with puppy dogs in an air-conditioned part of the jail. Some of the women inmates take him up on the offer. When one woman says she's in for selling drugs for one of the Mexican cartels, Arpaio brightens. "Do they know me?" he asks. In the tents reserved for "the illegals," I meet a young inmate originally from Chiapas, Mexico, who tells me through an interpreter that he's been working in the U.S. since 1996. Many members of his immediate family are American citizens, but he now faces deportation over a drunk-driving charge. Other men chime in with similar tales. Arpaio steps inside and proudly holds up a digital thermometer to show me that it is 128 degrees inside the tent. -

He wasn't drafted until the 4th round because he was trouble. Iirc he threatened to fuk up Wes Walker when AH was a rookie. They knew he was hanging with gangs. -

I haven't justified his conduct. I said the punishment fit the crime a dozen times. I thinking getting rid of one of your 2-3 top employees for it, as some suggested, would be stupid. And that star players, whether it is fair or not, or right or not, exists and exists for good reason. -

Do you feel the same way if it's your top employee versus just a workerbot? -

Both McD and Beane have gone way out of their way to say Dareus, like everyone, had a total clean slate when they got here. So either he wasn't a repeat offender to them or they were lying. Just sayin.' That never happened. -

While I agree with you, this is the guy that cancelled MLK Day in Phoenix. Said Asians' "eyes get round" who visit Phoenix golf courses. Defends his use of calling little black kids "pickaninnies." The list goes on and on. Phoenix was extremely Republican for decades. The last 10-15 years it has changed a bit. Trump won the last election by three points and Sheriff Joe lost by 11-12 points. -

Or arresting the two owners of that newspaper for writing critical stories on him and then having to pay them $3.75 million in a settlement for it. His reign of terror literally had 13,000 legal complaints. He paid out, well taxpayers, $140 million in settlements, legal fees and court awards. He's a racist scumbag no matter how many other racist accusations there are. -

I lived there 11 years. Never met one person who didn't know who he was. Everyone knew the same way that everyone knew who John McCain was. This was my favorite. He faked an assassination attempt on himself and framed some guy for it. Not just some rumor. The guy spent nine years in prison and then all charges were thrown out. Arpaio, well taxpayers, had to pay over a million dollars in a settlement. Two of his staffers were caught making it up. Nice guy that Joe. http://www.phoenixnewtimes.com/news/a-phony-murder-plot-against-joe-arpaio-winds-up-costing-taxpayers-11-million-6629798 -

This is a nice heartwarming story of Joe: "Sheriff Joe Arpaio, who has been accused of being prejudiced, said he no longer considers comparisons to the Ku Klux Klan "an honor." http://www.pressherald.com/2012/07/24/ariz-sheriff-back-tracks-on-kkk-support/ -

Is it legal for a team's quarterback to throw to the same WR in two different weeks? I think there is some rule about that. -

Of course I don't think he personally had anything to do with it. The reason I brought it up were the conditions in Tent City, which were inhumane. Everyone knew what he was like that lived there. A good number of them thought it was awesome he treated people like dogs. Phoenix in the 80s and 90s was one of the most backwoods big cities in the country. For instance, the governor at that time, who was impeached for being a racist, once said at a fundraiser in response to charges he was a racist, "I am not a racist, I have black friends, and black people who work for me, and it's not because they are black, it's because they're the best at their cotton pickin' jobs." True story. You can look it up. -

Wasnt me they were after or looking for. They questioned me and just let me go after five minutes. The point is his office did this all the time, picked up people, held them for months in unbearable conditions, then let a lot of them go. His office had 13,000 legal complaints against it. That's probably why Trump likes him. He breaks records. -

Reminds me of the story of some guy hitting on Ava Gardner, who was dating Frank Sinatra at the time, and the guy said of Frank, "How could you be interested in that 119 pound weakling?" And Ava said, "He may only weigh 119 pounds, but 19 of it is c-ck." -

It's bunk. If true it would be all over the news by now. -
Yep. MNF is actually the most successful prime time TV show ever. I'm sure you knew that.

I think different players deserve different treatment. I know that sounds like it's not fair but it's the way of the world. I don't think you can win with all nice guys. I think Dareus is a great player when motivated and even McD thinks he's very motivated this year. I don't think we should consider getting rid of him at all. If he gets suspended by the league again that is when and only when I think about getting rid of him. I know this isnt a popular view and really don't care. I still think he gets somewhat of an excuse for the 14 atrocious things that have happened in his life. No one has gone through what he has. That doesn't mean he has a free pass to do anything he wants. Not at all. but he's a unique case. I also think he was a total ass in his last interview and that was awful of him.
