I think Boyst and Kirby may be the recipe for Brokeback Mountain II. How could you possibly lay low with Boyst anyway, whether you wanted to join or avoid him?

Sean "Big Steel Balls" McDermott
Kelly the Dog replied to Gavin in Va Beach's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
It's impossible to know. I think, like you here, that most NFL coaches, under these EXACT same circumstances would have kicked the FG. I don't know about other people but I am not conservative by nature, I usually want to go for it on plays like that, but because of Jones out, the way our defense was playing, I would kick the FG there. Other games I go for it. -

A Few Thoughts About the Falcons Game

I never understood the benefit of the doubt calls that the NFL makes but it exists for sure. Perhaps because of McDermott we are solid and fundamentally sound and our players aren't dicks and they get the plays in quick and we run them and the officials think these guys are doing it right and we will give them the benefit of the doubt. -
McD's worst decision this year...

Totally agree. McDermott has made a lot of good decisions, in and out of the game stuff. The Tolbert love is the one thing I think is glaringly bad. Tolbert should be on the team. I understand his usefulness in a bunch of roles. But he should not, at all, be getting all these backup RB carries that Karlos and Gillislee and (in preseason) Jwilliams was getting. It's embarrassing. -

Yep. In the Broncos game I thought there were about eight bad calls. Horrendous. But we benefitted from half of them somit evened out. This game there were some controversial calls but overall I thought they got them right a lot. We got away with some stuff for sure. And they weren't called for a few. -

That is just flat false. It's inarguable Hughes hit the ball before his arm was going forward. That wasn't even an issue. The only issue was did he have control of the ball when his arm started going forward, and he didn't. He just pushed it forward. It would have been the same if it were below his waist and he didn't have full control and just shoveled it forward. That was clearly the right call after seeing three or four angles of it. On the Hyde interception you just don't know the rules. It's okay if it hits the ground. It's still a catch if it totally smacks against the ground as long as you have two hands and control of it, which he did. The ball didn't bounce up when it hit the ground so it is a catch. -
They played a much crappier defense who were missing two of their best players as well.
-
He did that twice I think. He's really a solid tackler in addition to pass coverage.

Doesn't work. That would imply one of them is straight and one of them is crazy and dangerous. But they are both the same and great.

Maybe. I thought it could have been that they were trying to draw the Falcons off. If they fell for it we would go from the half yard line but not the one yard line, and the delay penalty and five yards if they didn't jump would not make any difference. -
I'm usually in favor of an aggressive defense. Usually bend but not break defenses are bend but then break. But this one, and ones Opie had coached at Carolina seem to do the don't break thing well enough that it's a great defense. Four games. Two roads games. Jets, Panthers, Broncos and Falcons no one can say is weak schedule. And one TD pass? Four total TDs?

However funny that is, especially because some twit actually had postulated that once, there are a substantial number of posters here who are going to use this game and same reasoning leading up to and maybe after the 2018 draft. Winning now loses any chance of getting the top two picks, Tyrod played well enough to keep the job but he still sucks no matter what or how he plays, and we can't win the World Series or World Cup with him because he doesn't hit enough homeruns or score enough goals. So these wins killed our chances of getting Sam Darnold, who may suck. -
Overall Frazier has been calling great games. It's almost impossible to argue. There are a few things I have bitched about concerning the offense. But there are hardly any on the defense. Even the one thing they have consistently not done well, too soft a zone on the middle of the field 10-15 yards, we haven't been killed on. Today backs out of the backfield were an issue but didn't kill us. The defense overall has just been fantastic. All three units, too.

I had just realized that after being stupid and not realizing it earlier. But after having to read some of this bitching after two great wins I couldn't tell right away after overserving myself. I was just telling him (one of my all time favorites) that Bills fans pride themselves so much on how great a fan base we have and we often suck!! We hate losses and hate moral victories and hate wins. -

The pass to clay was a better pass than it was the easy catch right in his hands. And if you negate Clays plays from Taylor's game you need to add Zays drops. -

I'm giving credit to Tyrod for Tre White's touchdown because it's a team game, and because of Tre Whites touchdown we were much more conservative the rest of the game which hurt his stats or chances to score more points. But the more important reason I am giving credit for the offense to the points by the defense is the rest of league and official stats do. And other teams QBs for the last few years have had their defenses score points and put their offenses in great position to score because of stops and turnovers and the Bills defense HASNT for Tyrod. So his top ten scoring offense the last couple years were harder than most teams because he DIDNT get points scored by the defense or turnovers that gave us a lot of short fields or three and outs that gave us more time and good field position. We had to go the length of the field for most of our scores. So if he doesn't get credit for that he needs to get credit when it happens. -

Not to mention the pass to Clay was phenomenal, better than the easy catch. But no one listens to you, or cares, for good reason. -

The Matthews TD was a great play. He had a couple nice passes to Zones he dropped. He had a couple great scrambles. He had a really nice pass over the middle to Holmes. -

Interesting. This is stuff we fans don't often know when we spout off. Tyrod and McDermott said they were going to go for it if the defense gave them the look they wanted and would kick it if they gave them a look their play wouldn't work. -

Ultra conservative play calling at the end
Kelly the Dog replied to Steptide's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Fair enough. I don't think what he has shown makes him look like an overly conservative coach that will be overly conservative when we need to let it rip. That's possible. But to me there isn't reason to believe that yet. And so far his decisions have proven to be pretty good. For example, I am not at all a conservative fan. If it were up to me, all of the decisions I would make no fan would say he is a conservative guy. But most of the conservative decisions he has made so far even I have agreed with. And I didn't come in being a fan of McD either. I was a prove it to me Fan rather than a give him the benefit of the doubt until he fails like I normally am. -

That he isn't playing his normal game, he is a little better. He has no WR and not a great run game. And we just beat two top teams because of a better defense and a better Tyrod. -

I agree. To win the game. Which they did. He didn't know on second and third on those run calls we weren't going to get a lot of yards. It was to put them in a position to kick a long ass non conservative FG he was betting his kicker could make. And to make them use their timeouts or run the clock. Which worked. What I was saying was he was just trying to win THIS game, which he did, and his earlier decisions don't scream that he is always going to be conservative.
