  1. I think the next guy has four if that is same stat I saw earlier.
  2. McD is one of those coaches that puts a ton of stock in special teams, designs his active roster around it to some degree, prefers a reserve who is a little less of a player at his position to one that is better at ST. Spends a lot of time in practice on it. And it shows. The first year that Marrone was around (iirc) we signed a bunch of guys like Corey Graham and Boobie Dixon who were ST demons and it showed (they weren't the only two). Then the next year it seemed we didn't care as much and Crossman was crucified for being an idiot. Schmidt punted horribly last year. This year he is killing it. Not sure how much of that can be coaching. Kickers have been great. But Schmidt sucked last year. McBeane have put a lot of stock in guys who can play special teams.
  3. Amazingly, that was one of the most astute things jsp has said in years.
  4. I liked the idea of the low line drive kickoffs on a wet field and away from Patterson. Just a good call. Schmidt was very good all day. Hauschka was solid as usual and big props for causing a fumble. The coverage units have been good all year. Maybe one long return. Not sure what fans think of Crossman now.
  5. Well said. Thanks for that. It's interesting how a bunch of the social issues we are arguing about this week are similar to the things he was struggling with over 50 years ago. He led a boycott of an all star game because black players were not being treated fairly.
  6. He's either going to end his career being Walt "No Neck" Williams, or Merton Hanks. I can't decide.
  7. The best part was not seeing MILANO on the back of a throwback chasing a Raider down the field.
  8. I've always thought that pretty much everything in life, especially the major social and economic issues of the day, can be related to and explained away by something Bowfinger. Highly underrated movie and social commentary. Jamie Kennedy was amazing. Especially the subtext.
  9. He's really surprised me. Not even counting the two obvious big plays in last couple games. He really looks like a solid player. It's early of course but I really like this guy.
  10. Why is the evidence lacking when he has said dumb racially insensitive things before? That is needs to be addressed and fixed is a fact, unless you think this thread, and this incident is exactly the way things should be and we have no problems like this and we should just keep status quo because everybody gets along so well. Of course, but you can't say that.
  11. Wouldn't have the same meaning. I can call my brother a dick and he doesn't care. If someone else calls my brother a dick I'm offended. And so is he.
  12. I count one. The second sentence. And I didn't even comment or imply whether or not whether it came from a bad place. Because even if it didn't this time, the same problem would exist. So none.
  13. I don't think so. Just because he didn't intentionally make a racist comment doesn't mean it didn't come from some bad place that needs to be addressed and fixed. He didn't make a mistake by giving them more credit than they deserve but less. This wasn't the first dumb thing he said. It's taken as a Freudian slip more than just a mistake. If someone called me a slave to my boss it means nothing to me. If someone called a black guy the same thing it means something different to him.
  14. That's not true. That's a huge part of the problem. A huge portion of the population is offended by being referred to as inmates or owned whether it was intended or not. He didn't err and call them librarians or social workers. Just because you don't think it matters and another huge portion of the population doesn't think it matters does not negate it.
  15. I was talking about breaking a Camel cigarette. That's an idiom. So it's not racist.
  16. While I don't think he meant it to be racist one bit, anyone of you crackers that can't understand why black players would be affected by that is the same thing. They may have over reacted. I think they did. But it was a straw that broke the camel's back kind of thing. How can these guys not get it?
  17. I did, however, like that Hootchie picked up the flag from one that he threw.
  18. Yep. All of them. I was trying to think of one guy who has been missing tackles and couldn't think of one. White, Hyde and Johnson are very good tacklers. Poyer has been very solid, too. They all try to tomahawk the ball, too, when they can, or strip it when gangtackling without being selfish and letting the ball carrier gain extra yards. Frazier and McD have these guys very well coached.
  19. I heard that on the first drive White didn't shadow him but from then on he did. I didn't notice either way that was the case. But the Raiders looked downfield a lot more on the first two drives and were throwing easy crossing patterns, too. Then they seemed to throw a lot of outs and dinks and dunks. Tough to know on first look.
  20. Refs thought it was a fight for awhile.
  21. I absolutely agree, but will say that Tolbert did his job today and didn't leave a lot of yards on the field that I thought he did in other games. Tolbert should be the #3 and sometimes short yardage back and backup FB and special teams player.
  22. Yup. And one of the best qualities of being a "professional" is to compartmentalize things, and when you need to do your job just do your job and don't let outside distractions affect it. Good for them.
