  1. The Bills were bidding with the Cards for Allen so had to pay more. The Cards, after the Bills took Allen, weren't bidding against anyone for Rosen because of the QB needy teams had already selected, so they didn't have to offer nearly as much.
  2. Marino also had a lesser senior season than junior year. That was as big a reason for his drop as the drug rumors. The Bills had Kelly and Marino rated just about equal. That's the reason they took Tony Hunter two picks ahead, because they didn't care which one they got. When they had their choice, because the team just ahead of them didn't take a QB they took Kelly, but they were rated equivalent. We also have to remember, like someone posted above, that in the greatest QB class ever, three were studs, one was pretty good, one was average and one sucked. So teams were basically only happy with three of the six, or fifty percent, which is about the same average as any number one pick at QB. Out of the big four this year, it's quite likely that two will succeed and two won't, depending of course on your definition of success.
  3. Amongst the worst in the league at OL, WR, QB, LB. There isn't one position we are loaded although our DL and DB are pretty solid as far as starters go but we lack depth. I agree though that especially on D, the sum is great than the parts. Barring a lot of injuries, if Edmunds is decent, we should have a pretty good defense.
  4. He will pass Peterman on the depth chart between the time he cocks his arm to throw his first pass in rookie mini camp and it gets within a yard of its target.
  5. He said "Won't take it any further" as in saying "I'm not telling you guys any more than that." i doubt that the Bills will sign him, because he is a diva and he wants to play for big money from a competitor with a top QB, but he didn't say we weren't interested. He actually said the opposite, both times he was asked. He said we are looking at him and talking about him and watching his tape.
  6. Beane even mentioned Kirk falling in his interview this morning.
  7. Just because a player starts off bad and has crappy stats versus sitting doesnt at all mean it was a mistake. Experience, especially for an NFL quarterback, is an invaluable asset.
  8. Totally agree with all of that. He will really benefit from Star in front of him though. He's going to make some mistakes. And good thing Hyde and Poyer are behind him. I fear we give up a lot of 7-10 yard runs up the gut until he learns not to bite. But his upside is off the charts.
  9. They werent putting 8-9 in the box at all. And when they did it wasnt to shut down Shady, it was to have a spy on Tyrod to watch him. Shady had two great seasons because Tyrod was such a threat to both run, scramble and throw deep. AJ does none of those.
  10. If AJ starts, Shady will be mostly worthless and wasted. Teams will load up the box and dare him to beat us down the field and he won't be able to for several reasons. Only the monster arm and threat of Allen will back them off.
  11. Not really. Chances are, this guy has a chance. Even if it's 1% he has a chance. Peterman has no chance.. 0%. There are some guys that cannot play in regular season NFL games because of their arm. To me, Peterman is one of those guys. I said it before the Chargers game and it was evident in that game. It was even evident in the final game.
  12. Dawkins didn't look good in camp as a RT, only a LT. Had trouble with the different leg drop and plant. It seems like if you can do one you should be able to do either but it's not true. Some guys can only play well at one side, and it's not always the perceived easier one, RT.
  13. That actually showed a pretty decent arm. Definitely better prospect. Thanks for that. He could beat Peterman out for PS guy.
  14. I know absolutely nothing about Ryan Zapoticky, three minutes ago was the first time i ever saw his name, and I'm highly confident he's a better NFL prospect than Nathan Peterman.
  15. Dez Bryant would help Allen, Benjamin and especially Shady in tremendous ways. It's almost a no brainer. Probably a bad move for Dez but a great thing for the Bills.
  16. Yep. If Allen is great, this draft was a grand slam. If he's quite good it's a homerun. If he is average it's a poor draft. If he sucks it's a disaster. The other guys, as far as this draft grade goes, hardly even matter. And I like a few of them a lot,
  17. What I meant was the complexity in real time speed, under a full pass rush. Which is the one thing they all need to learn, and the only way to know if he will be good. You cannot simulate it.
  18. Close. But somewhat more than that. Talked about him being one of the leaders on the team.
  19. This is what I hope it is, unless they can pick up a veteran that was cut for cap purposes or a team is loaded with young linemen. I truly hope the DuCasse and Mills experiment is over. Unfortunately, McD was talking up Mills on the press conference yesterday.
  20. Preseason is 3/4 speed. Preseason is where fans get the misguided madman theory that guys like Nathan Peterman can play. It's slightly better than practice but nothing whatsoever like a real game. And the stuff it doesn't show, like disguising defenses, and the real speed of the game is precisely the things that separates good and bad quarterbacks. Developing quartbacks can happen while they are playing.
  21. You're never going to know when he is ready. There are zero simulations on earth that replicate a regular season NFL game. There is NOTHING you can do in practice that will prepare him for the defenses he will be seeing under live bullets.
  22. Yes, but we are not going to ask him to drop back in the pocket, look off coverage, go through three reads and then make a great decision. We are going to have him hand off a lot, throw easy passes, do play action and throw downfield to his first read so the defense must play off the ball and honest.
  23. That's the one thing he's used to. Getting pressure immediately. His OL was godawful.
  24. I would argue that it can quicken his demise, and kill his confidence, but that player wasn't going to have the requisite mental capacity or toughness to excel in the first place. If a QB is looking over his shoulder because he thinks the backup may replace him soon he probably shouldn't be out there anyway. If AJ starts this team goes nowhere in all likelihood. And Josh doesn't learn all he could be learning.
