  1. I thought McCarron outshone Peterman because he showed several different solid qualities. Shaq probably helped. Murphy surely. Groy I hope secured the starting C job vs Bodine. Streater did well although he's surely on the bubble. As is Reilly and both made a solid play although Reilly's was easy. Ray Ray did enough to make the coaches think about other positions. I think McCloud makes the 53 and guys like Taiwan Jones don't, and maybe Cadet doesn't if they keep Murphy (because they can use McCloud as a RB in certain plays and formations). Neal had a play or two. And he was on the bubble because Marlowe is ahead of him.
  2. Totally agree. Totally agree. Get the papers. Get the papers.
  3. Nonsense. If you asked anyone here what they like about Peterman 90-95% of them would say that he knows where he wants to go with the ball, makes quick decisions, and throws an accurate pass. Thats what everyone thinks and that's what he does and that's what he did today. If you ask people if he has a strong arm, does he throw the ball downfield a lot, does he go to his third and fourth read, etc, they would say no.
  4. Allen threw three balls deep to Foster. Allen's first play that was 55-60 yards in the air, hit him in stride but three yards out of bounds. Not a good pass. Too far OB. The second one looked like a great pass. Foster should have caught it. It was within a yard and Foster didn't run right to it or track it well. A decent NFL WR catches that ball in stride. It was a terrific pass. The third one looked three yards overthrown. If you watched the replay, Foster literally stopped running in the middle of the play, realized it was coming to him and then started running again. That easily could have and should have been a 50 yard completion. Allen threw a bunch of great passes.
  5. Two of the three bombs he threw to Foster were excellent passes and should have been long gainers, one of which was on third and 22 or so. He threw a couple darts over the middle. He changed his delivery on a couple passes to avoid the defenders in his face. The first series was third and four and he threw a nice out pass right on the money that was dropped. He looked around one time and instead of gunning the ball like he normally does, lofted one to a wide open guy (Croom?) for a long gain and first down. The scrambling should not be downplayed because whomever is the starter is going to face rushes like that. And it wasn't only scrambling. He showed speed running, and smarts running, and awareness of down and distance, and awareness of the clock. Even when it was fourth down and they had to call a TO with one second left on the play clock, he ran off the field pointing to his helmet as if he didn't get the play and it wasn't his fault, which was a savvy veteran move, and very good awareness for his first game.
  6. That TD was a big league pass. If Foster wasn't a meathead in this game Josh would have had 2-3 TDs. He showed ten talents and Nate, who had a great game, showed about two.
  7. Murphy was very, very good, in a lot of ways. There is a decent chance that he is the 3rd RB they release Cadet and Jones, and then keep Ray Ray as kind of the fourth RB. That's what I would like to see. That allows an extra WR to be kept, three different kinds of guys between Shady, Ivory (who I always loved) and Murphy. Cadet is decent and I wouldn't mind him but Murphy runs very hard, is shifty, can catch, is fearless, and can return kicks. He was one of the 3-4 most impressive players on the field tonight.
  8. It's obvious. The one thing that Peterman does very, very well is read the defense pre-snap, drop back, know where he wants to go with it, and throw a ten yard strike. That's the one and only thing he does very well and he did that seven times. The lob for the TD was more than ten yards but still an easy throw. It was a very good throw but easy. He made one great play, rolling out and throwing a ten yard pass on the run that KB also made a great catch on. That was awesome pass by Nate. But it's still a ten yard throw. That's what he does great. There are 20 other things a QB has to do to be successful. Both little and big things stood out to me. He really played well a lot of ways if you count what he was given on each snap. I was very impressed.
  9. Not at all. He showed a dozen great qualities and he showed he's a rookie in his first game. Some little things he did were terrific.
  10. Peterman showed the qualities he has that everyone already knew. Not a chance he is trade bait because of his showing. He didn't show anything that would quell the stuff he can't do or hasn't shown he could do. This is Trent Edwards all over again. He played excellent. I am not going to fault him. He threw one bad pass out of ten. But we already knew he could do what he did. He cannot succeed, ever, if he cannot get the ball downfield or be able to handle a rush, and he didn't show he could do that tonight in any way. He had a great game at what he is good at, that's it.
  11. Peterman played very well. It's inarguable. It's also inarguable that all Peterman showed was what he does well. We knew all this already. He's very good, and his fans overvalue, the idea that he can drop back and throw a 10 yard pass. He had one very nice rollout play, his best of the game, where he made a great pass to KB who made a great catch on the sidelines. But Peterman has two glaring fatal flaws and he did zero in this game to alleviate the worry. He doesn't handle a strong rush well, and he doesn't get the ball downfield, and he doesn't have the arm strength. He didn't do one thing to disprove his downfall. Actually he stared down his receivers a lot, and his INT was well behind the intended receiver. McCarron showed better than Peterman. He did a lot of things QBs have to do to succeed in this league. He delivered the ball downfield. He went to his second and third reads. He stepped up in the pocket excellent. He was steady and yet still got the ball downfield. if you're a coach, the most impressive QB on the field, regardless of stats, was Allen. He showed all kinds of talent in ten different QB qualities. He was mostly great against the rush. He scrambled and ran great. He threw the ball downfield. He should have had two complete bombs. His TD was ridiculous. He even showed touch. For his first game, with guys like Foster, who !@#$ed him several times (and I hoped was going to make the team but was awful), Allen was very, very impressive. He should be playing.

  13. It's actually one page eighteen times. And now 22.
  14. This PROBABLY did not really enter the equation because it was abundantly clear that we needed a talent and a speed upgrade at WR. But it's not out of the question that Beane and McD may be leaning to starting Allen sooner than later and they figured we better get this speed guy, whomever he is, in here quicker than later. I have always been on the start Allen early if he shows decent bandwagon, so this somewhat fits my narrative. And it's more because AJ and NP stink and our run game will be **** down more than Allen is great.
  15. Zay has a lot to prove. I think he makes it but he's definitely not a lock, especially after the Coleman trade. It wasn't only the yips and drops. Zay didn't run great patterns last year. He didn't show an awareness for down and distance and especially on the sidelines. He was AWFUL tracking the ball in the air on downfield plays. I expect them to give him a chance and expect him to make the team, but he is not a lock and he could be a total bust.
  16. Depends on most all other positions. I think they keep two QBs so may take an extra WR. We have no idea who will be KR or PR. If they want Taiwan Jones to be KR we keep an extra RB. If we want a big safety to play a few downs we keep maybe 5 instead of 4. If they don't keep Holmes at WR they need a gunner on ST. My guess is no better than yours and you may be right. I just think the number of WR has to do as much with other positions as it does the talent at WR. Only 4-5 are going to dress. I think McCloud is the PR and will be used as a RB sometimes so he will be the last WR but dress, so they keep at least six.
  17. I'm with most everyone. It was a huge need. He's got speed and talent. Didn't give away anything. We're better there than we were yesterday. I'm not expecting a huge breakthrough, especially with a Baylor guy and the fact the Browns just gave him away, but I'm happy with it. I think we keep six WR and maybe seven if McCloud is the 7th and a KR and/or PR as well as gadget guy out of the backfield.
  18. We need the roster spot for a lot of reasons. Peterman will be released very late and then signed to PS methinks. No one is going to put him on their active roster on the eve of the season. If anyone wants to poach him we could still re-sign him if he wants to stay, but I sincerely doubt they do. You're not going to dress three so the spot would be a waste. If one gets hurt you bring him up.
  19. That's what I am thinking. I'd love to re-sign him to a decent deal, but a Skinner at the trade deadline would get you at least what we just gave up. I liked Pu but we don't really need him and Asplund. Skinner is just what we need with Kane gone. Canes seemed to be stuck with him turning down trades. I think I'd like to see: Skinner-Eichel-Reinhart Sheary-Middlestadt-Okposo
  20. You people are nuts. There is only one Mexican dish total. It is made up of seven ingredients. So there are 49 variables of that one dish. And 42 our of 49 Mexican restaurants suck at cooking that one dish.
  21. Colbert and John Oliver are brilliant comedians. Trevor Noah is talented but not real funny. All of the other ones IMO suck. Myers is awful. Kimmel has moments every couple weeks. Fallon is a really talented guy just not funny or good interviewer. Bee sucks balls. Conan is still pretty funny at times.
  22. Yeah I don't mind it at all for a full day once in awhile, just not all the time.
  23. It's practice though. They need to get the plays down and they can't if they don't have time. It's a tricky business.
  24. That didn't seem deranged at all. Thanks for the deets, G. It's tough for sure to tell from one practice but we need these reports. It's an interesting conversation to decide if one side of the team which is clearly better, should be going full blast against the lesser side, which needs the practice. McD is saying he's not holding the D back. The offense better not get too frustrated not being able to make plays and move the ball. It's a tough choice.
  25. There are only 5-6 guys on the entire planet that are good enough to play consistently very well as an NFL QB. Another dozen guys on the entire planet play well in bursts. Mental toughness is one of the dozen or so qualities that separate the top guys from everyone else. If you don't have it, and failure early knocks it out of you, you didn't have enough for the long run anyway.
