What I am taking from our roster cuts
Kelly the Dog replied to Buffalo716's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I don't think they see him as a WR. He's a gadget guy and returner. We don't have anyone like him. He's got mad skills. He's not just going to line up wide and run patterns. -

Read it again at lunchtime. -
The Nfl doesn't count any stats in preseason. He's definitely only on the roster because he's fast and Daboll knows him. We need speed and if Daboll is good that's a good thing that he knows him better than anyone and lobbied for him. If Daboll is bad it's bad and I agree it's a mistake. That has yet to be determined. I am as surprised as anyone he made it. He pissed me off more than any other player.

I would add Ray Ray Ray to the running game to some degree. He will get a few touches a game imo and a bunch of those out of the backfield. Or start in the backfield and then go in motion. If Allen is in they cannot stack the box. If Nate is in they will without question. -
Obviously not because he's on the roster.

They show hands. You don't want to count any play that is made by anyone against someone who is not a starter either. You don't want to count anything other than stats. That is what is absurd.

I'm interested. Not sure excited because of line fears. If Nate plays I think we get murdered by 8-9 in box that will take away most of what you envision. I'm excited to see how he uses Ray Ray and Murphy to keep teams off balance. They won't play much but I see a bunch of jet sweeps, screens, bubble screens, reverses, etc with those guys as integral part of our offense. He's going to have to manufacture first downs.

Just what I said.

Here is what I don't get. We know what we have in Clay. He's a solid starter. He may or may not be here in 2019. But right now he makes sense. He's good. If he stays healthy could be quite good. We pretty much know what we have in Lee. Good blocker. Utility guy. Showed some hands. Every team wants and needs a backup like this although won't play that much. We knew what we had in O'Leary. He's a gamer. Doesn't do anything real well but he produced to a tolerable if not decent degree in his opportunities. He made plays despite his very limited physical gifts. But Thomas and Croom are the same player in a lot of ways. Great size but somewhat slender. More like oversized WR. Good skills and speed. Can't block that well but mostly willing. But neither of them have produced in real games. It's almost impossible to imagine that both will improve so much they can be a solid 1-2 punch next year if Clay is gone. That's really a stretch. I like both to some degree. I know all about Thomas knowing the offense and being the teacher. But they are the same guy. And a much much better chance that neither will be good than both. O'Leary is limited but known. He can play. Really tough choice. I'm not even sure I know what I would do (and obviously wasn't around for practice). But there is a very good argument for keeping O'Leary.

Judging Beane’s decisions so far
Kelly the Dog replied to simpleman's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
This is clearly a three year plan. Last year was getting rid of contracts and numerous players that didn’t buy in. They still managed to sneak into playoffs which was great. This year is the real painful one. Getting Josh some experience without being able to give him weapons or protection. Some of his offensive signings were dreadful on paper and on field so far. We are weak or pitiful at all but two of the seven positions. We will see soon how well it turns out on field. Josh could surprise. Next year, with all the money and few guys to get rid of will be the true test. He needs to fill over ten positions with solid starters. He set himself up to do it. We will see what he spends his huge resources on. Then we will know what kind of GM he is. -
That’s dumb. He had some drops. He also made four difficult catches over his head on balls thrown ob. At most one of them could he get his feet close. But all were nice catches. And i I hated him.
-
Without Deonte we don’t likely make playoffs, on the great deep catch in snow game alone.
-
I agree with all of that, and yet he is open all the time. We don’t have a guy who gets separation like that, short or long. That has to be what coaches like. I still expect him to be cut and stashed on PS but he has the kind of raw talent and speed we sorely lack at WR. If he can be taught to just track the ball better, which remains to be seen, he’d be worth a roster spot. Dabol has obviously seen more of him than anyone and obviously likes him. We will see. I loved the signing. I hated him in preseason because of all the mistakes, especially in tracking the ball. Josh’s second and third bombs should have been 60+ yard TDS. But I was amazed at how he was always beating guys.

Roster is set, pre-season over, how are you feeling?
Kelly the Dog replied to Virgil's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
We are fine at DE. A lot of people are wrong about Hughes. He’s still very good. Murphy is pretty good. Yes we don’t know if he will be healthy but he should be 100% at start of season. Both Lawson and Yarborough are decent to good backups. Alexander can rush on some downs. If Star does his job on passing downs Hughes will return to 10 sacks. -
Do we pull a Patriots and bring in Perriman?

Report: Martavious Bryant released
Kelly the Dog replied to Alphadawg7's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Agreed. I totally understand that McBeane only want Boy Scouts. But it seems to me that they can take a flyer on some of these guys, like they did with Coleman, and if it doesn't work they just get rid of him, and if it does work, they're heroes for the reclamation project. It worked for three years with Ritchie Incognito. There was also a somewhat reliable rumor IiRC that the Bills were interested in Bryant last year. I thought no way would McBeane do it but then I saw that they actually did look into it. So who knows. -
Hard to know for sure but Mary Kay Cabot, the beat reporter from the Browns, said today that the Bills didn't like Coleman's attitude from day one. So he may well have been catastrophic behind the scenes.

Maybe, but at least he's dumb. -

Maybe the OP meant sign schitty receivers that drive this board crazy because Bellichick is a genius before the genius cuts that guy two weeks later. -

Martavius was good on the Steelers. The only way he is ever going to be good is if we ever get a 6'4" or 6'5" big strong doofy first round QB from a small school with a big arm. Otherwise, why bother?
