Every throw from Josh Allen’s 1st start
Kelly the Dog replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
To me that one was awful but easy to see what happened. You literally never ever practice what Josh did. Roll to your left and throw a 10 yard lob way up in the air. It was just a simple error and something he isn't likely to do. He saw Murphy wide wide open, and instead of throwing it on a line which he would have done if he were covered, or taking a little off and throwing it like a swing pass which he did 3-4 times with success in the game, he just decided to lob it out there because no one was near him, and he just overcompensated and blew it. It was just a dumb decision to throw a pass like you never ever throw. A lot of quarterbacks will say sometimes when a guy is uncovered it isn't as easy as it looks because you are thinking I can't possibly blow this, can I? And it plays games with you. To me it's easily explainable and nothing to do with his inaccuracy, which was a small problem in the game. In fact, two of his completions were a bigger accuracy issue than that fluke play. -
[Vague Title] The future is ok

That is what I saw, two of the sacks were on him, three were on the OL and he had no chance. However, he houdinied 3-4 other most-likely-sacks because he is elusive, strong, and surprisingly nimble for his size. I remember saying last year, be careful what you hope for getting rid of Tyrod because he masked the fact that the line was awful in pass protection, and that was with Wood and Richie. We saw what a guy who can't handle the rush was like last week in the first half. Josh, too, masks glaring deficiencies. -
Josh Gordon to be released-now traded to PATS
Kelly the Dog replied to Kirby Jackson's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
As I said, it works on some guys and doesn't on others. Gordon is not the type of guy it is likely to. The Pats bring in all kinds of guys that the Patriot way doesn't work on at all, every year, including high picks and former stars and very productive players. Their percentage of turning FA or trades into great players for them is actually not that great. They do it so often, because they can, that they hit on enough to keep them at the top of the league. You're not really going to argue this is a good fit for them and a good move after you have spent the last hour straight trashing everything about him are you? Maybe you will. -

I agree with most all of that. I just didn't see many if any posters blaming everyone else but him. I saw them ALL blaming everyone else including him. -

Terrorists? I'm not sure Josh Gordon is the right guy to have the two top guys in the organization being verbally abusive to you. To some people it works on, to others it backfires. -

9 times out of 10 you would call that bullschit, admit it. -

There is a difference between structure/discipline and terrorism. The same difference between being tough negotiators and waterboarding. -

Awesome. Expect minds to be blown and people may actually die from spontaneous combustion. Personally, I think that is a bad place for him. It's slightly possible he turns into Randy Moss. I think Belichick and Brady are probably not the best people for him to be around despite their greatness at what they do. But it shows that the Pats will do anything to try to make them better. They misfire a lot but they are also the team to beat every year for the last 15 or so. We aren't. -

I just watched it again. I think it was a great throw and the defender just dove and made a great play to defend it. Clay is a TE but he's not superfast or adept at running deep routes. I don't really think he short-armed it. I think he expects it to get to him on the dead run and the DB just knocked it away at the last second. It was a helluva pass. The announcer said he should have lofted and not gunned it. I don't think that is right. The DB has more speed than Clay. Others said he shouldn't have thrown it at all. But he looked around, stepped up in the pocket, waited, and right before the pocket collapsed he saw Clay and threw a dart 20-30 yards downfield right on the money. That was a great pass, IMO. And very accurate for the accuracy haters. -

That is just flat wrong, bud. Pretty much every poster that has been supportive of Allen's day yesterday openly acknowledged he missed a bunch of opportunities and looked like a rookie. -

It's really difficult to say that his bomb to Josh was 10 yards too short when it was 64 yards in the air moving to his left. I suppose if you think a QB can throw a ball 75 yards in the air right on the money moving to his left under a rush, you have a good point. The DB had to play catch up because he never thought the ball would be coming. He had no real chance to get the ball that was short, only Zay did who saw it coming. Not a bad ball at all. -

In the one game they played he caught a game tying TD in the last two minutes on a great twisting catch and could have/should have had at least one if not two other TDs. The second game he didnt play they lost. -

I know three things about Josh Gordon. His atrocious record with Baylor, the league, weed, suspensions, the Browns, availability, etc. One of worst ever. His outrageous skills and production when playing with Baylor, the Browns, the league, etc. One of very best in league. Top 5. Contrary to popular belief, he is a thoughtful guy, not at all a thug, not a jerk, not as one would assume he is if you take the time to learn a lot about him. What I don't know is how he is in practice and around his teammates. it seems as though he tries when he is there. I think, but I don't know at all, that his teammates liked him. I haven't seen stories to the opposite. To me he is Terrell Owens. A lot of fans hated him and his antics. To me, he worked his ass off, blocked well, never took plays off, and when he was traded to the Bills was a model citizen, even though I know and knew for sure he did some outrageously stupid things in the past. He can help Josh a lot by getting open, getting deep, taking the defense's focus off other receivers, making plays, scoring TDs, etc. He did it for Tyrod in his only game this year. IF he is a player who tries in practice and isn't a jerk. I don't know that he is a locker room or practice player cancer at all. And I know it's a 10% chance he plays, plays the whole season for anyone, and does well. I'll take that chance considering we have Andre Holmes as our #3. -

Possibly. And I trust your judgment. Nolan Ryan threw a ton of 100mph fastballs right on target. But he also walked a bunch of guys. he was either very accurate or he was very often far off target. It seems contradictory but that is the way some guys are when they throw so hard. -

He threw three swing passes where he took a lot off and all three were right on the money to Shady, and I think one dump off. -

And huge. And pretty nimble for his size. He's just a player like no other and needs to be looked at as such. Not saying he is automatically going to be great or even good. But he is unique, and going by stats or what he does not do well that a lot of other QBs do have to take in other factors of what he does better than them. -

Yes and no. There were three very nice short throws over defenders to Shady that he took a lot off and hit him on the dead run. They looked easy but really are not all that easy and all were right on the money. IIRC, one was a first down or close to it, two were 6-7 yard plays. The one rolling left when he had Murphy wide open he just blew, trying to take too much off because it was so open. On that he probably should have just throw it regular, like the Shady passes, and not lofted or gunned it. A lot of QBs will say passes to wide open guys aren't always so easy for just that reason. He actually threw quite a few nice short passes yesterday. The three to Shady, a couple dump offs, a few 5 yard bullets. -

Anyone on the Bills is just going to have to get used to the lasers that Josh throws. The fact that he is a rookie, and throws the exact opposite of Nate and AJ is one thing, plus he spent very little time with them in OTA/camp/preseason, and they have very likely never played with a guy like that, all matters. We want stuff to click so fast when JA is a unique animal. -

You may be right. I will watch it again later. When it happened I thought that Clay just reached out because he thought it was going to get to him in full stride and didn't expect the guy behind him to reach out and get a hand on it. I will look again. -

I thought the Clay play was a great throw and a great play made by the defender. I'm glad you brought that one up. Josh threw it on a rope right on the money way down the field, the defender just dove and knocked it away. I'm not sure you can fault Clay on that one but I may need to see it a few times again. That was a terrific pass, and when you hear of a lot of Josh is inaccurate posts and tweets and comments, people seem to forget about plays like that one. -

We weathered an entire season of glaring mistakes and excuses from a rookie with Zay Jones and now he is our #2 WR. I think Josh gets a little time to show let alone master the 25 or so different things you need to do to excel at the hardest position to play in all of team sports in the world. One where at any one time, only about a dozen veterans ever excel at in that world.
