We paid a little too much but we have the money. I hated Lee Smith when he was here before because we often ran an incredible three-TE offense, none of whom were a threat. With Kroft as the dual TE, Knox as the lock receiving TE, and "I don't cut" Smith as the blocking TE, we are not in bad shape. I always thought Croom was gone after we drafted Knox. Now either Sweeney is the fourth TE or goes to the PS. Makes sense. I'm sure Bobby Johnson played a huge role in this and McD loves him some locker room presence.

McCown would be a way better option than Barkley. That would be getting an Anderson and Barkley in one who was a much better player if Josh went down. Cassel was shot two years ago.
-
He went way out of his way to say what a help Anderson was. He went less out of his way to say Barkley also helped. He said nothing about his QB coach. There was a clear preference.
-
You made my point. You have a far different opinion than Josh Allen does then.

Awful players can have good games. He also threw several floaters that could have been picked off in that game. There is no doubt he had a successful game, and results are results. But he’s been historically awful mostly because of his rag arm. He has an abysmal record. If he plays four games I think we win one of them. I have watched him a lot. He’s slightly better than Peterman and has the same skill set.

Anderson is not needed as much now that we have an actual QB coach. Barkley will be fine as the player in Josh's ear on the sidelines and in the QB room, you should just hope to god he doesn't have to play.

TE Lee Smith visiting Bills

Ugh. Lee "I don't cut" Smith? The Bills apparent interest in Smith, Watson and Fisher spells doom for Croom methinks. -
Butch Rolle to be working with Dawson Knox
Kelly the Dog replied to Food_Pyramid_Wrong's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
All Knox does is not score touchdowns. Seems like a good match. Rolle always seemed like a good guy. Rolle was highly overrated as a TE though. It's not like he was making great catches for these TDs. It was more like a tackle eligible play with hardly any coverage. He was, however, a little cog in some great teams. A Rolle player at best. ? -
Which One - Fitz, Tyrod, or Barkley as Your Your Backup?

Incredible, impossible, but true. -

Singletary is the witch. -
I now understand why the Bills passed on DK Metcalf

Lance Zierlein is one of the very few consistently good evaluators year in and year out, IMO. Thankless job as you well know. And like hitting a baseball, you're awesome if you hit .333 but that also means you are out .667 -

With all apologies to AD, dude's a witch. -
RD 7, Pick 228: TE Tommy Sweeney, Boston College

Yep. One could argue that Kroft and Tommy Sweeney have similar skill sets, and while I sure hope that the Croom personal situation would not affect the personnel situation, one bad crack about me, too or clean coal could reverse that point. I doubt we keep four TEs; not with 4 RBs, a FB and at least 6 WR (counting Roberts). And yes, I would like to replace our FB with a combination of Gore and Knox but it ain't likely to happen. McDermott's fixation with DiMarco is Petermanian. -

Croom and Knox give you the same skill set though. They are interchangeable (although Knox is a better and more willing blocker). Most teams like to have different qualities in their 3-4 TEs. Tommy Sweeney provides something different than Croom and Knox: Dependability, sure hands, inline blocking. -
I think a guy like Nsekhe with his experience can be both the starter and the swing tackle. If say he starts and Ford starts and Ford goes down, then Dawkins comes in at LT and Nsekhe goes to RT. A guy like Groy, without the game and years experience, needs the practice on both sides so in theory at least, its smarter for him to not start but be able to fill in if a guard or center goes down.

Fitz by a mile, if we are talking just one season. Then Tyrod. Then Barkley. -

I'm thinking 4.5 yards and a cloud of pixie dust. -

I agree with that, virtually all of it. I would have liked a big WR who can get deep and you and I discussed it before the draft. I like what we did, for the most part, with the WR in the off season but we need a stud. I don't think DK or many of these guys will be a stud. I wanted Harry in the second because I saw every game he played and think he is going to be very good, but it's all an unknown. The combination of two deep threats in Brown and Foster, a dependable slot who can get open in Beasley, a solid short pass catcher out of the backfield in Yeldon, and HOPEFULLY a big guy who can win jump balls and be a red zone threat if Duke or Sills are half good, is literally 10x better than what we had. Even McKenzie with his shiftiness and the jet sweep threat can open up the passing game. Plus HOPEFULLY, Kroft and Knox can be better than Croom and Thomas and Clay, who proved the little known mathematical anomaly of 1+1+1=0. Granted, that is a lot of hope. That said, ONE of the 37 things you can do to help a young raw QB like Josh, which may be in the top 5 of those 37 is "Field Position." Getting him turnovers and shorter fields and more cracks at it with an aggressive defense. That bend but not break defense often got us terrible field position, combined with our crappy ST. So Oliver, if good, could help Josh as much as any offensive player. We surely could use a stud WR though. Bad. -
Hard to imagine Derek Anderson making the roster

He did throw this ball about 60 yards on a rope on the run. His arm is huge. -
Must be Jim called in a favor to Frank (Chad Kelly)
Kelly the Dog replied to MAJBobby's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
That goes both ways. Talent-wise, arm, and physical traits, if he didn't have the baggage he would likely have been a high draft pick.
