Joe B article speculates John Brown will be cut
RichRiderBills replied to DJB's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I think your totally wrong...agree to disagree. New team would not swallow full 10 million, they'd at worse get hit w/ a little less than 8. Then you get a pretty solid WR instead of letting him hit a market. Brown's speed will be in demand. Not to mention new team can restructure him to about 5-6 million per year, which is easily what he's worth. I know this year will be lower, but good luck with the expectation he'll take 4 million per year. -
Joe B article speculates John Brown will be cut

Why isn't he talking about the possible trade value? I really think John Brown has a potential trade value at 8 mil per year for a burner wide receiver who can...in the right system... catch 70 balls. This guy is not garbage, and he could always do a new deal. Lets also talk about restructuring. I don't think he's neccesarily a cut. -
Felciano is going to be the kind of guy hit hard this year. He didnt have the best year, but he is versatile and could likely come back for cheap, given salary cap concerns league wide. The Chiefs game was not a full spectrum view of his season. Id try to bring him back on a bargain cap friendly deal.

I’m warming up to the JJ Watt idea

Everyone saying "cut smoke" damned if he does not have trade value. 8 million per year vet burner who can grab 70 balls per year in right system not a bad deal. -

I am in on this....provided he's a viable scheme fit. He's played different than our current guys IMO. My guess is , if the answer is yes, he should be traded for, then it takes the guesswork out of "would he want to come here". With the contract , i dont think it will take more than a 5th rounder, as he very well could get cut. The 17 million is a tough pill to swallow, but likely could be renegotiated to alleve cap concerns for this year, spread out over a creative multi year deal. Fully confident in Bean here. Lets also not get too insecure here; the Watts are cold weather folks, and my guess is JJ would love the college vibe of this team. BTW we are a good football team. A few counterpoints to things ; Yes i find him obnoxious at times too...i think the bills need some vocal fire on that side of the ball though. Im willing to risk his play being down to the issues w Texans. He was a huge factor in our 2019 playoff loss, so i know he has more left. He's 31 so not the oldest. This is the crux of the argument. I dont agree with the last part however, especially this year...the money simply wont be there. -
Your not wrong, but i think this is more like a 3-4 year spike...but Im not sure what started it. It is recency to pay big bucks for above avg 4-3 WLBs of the non pass rusher variety. Same for MLBs... That Kwon contract was roasted and identified as problematic. Prior to that, it was dudes like Takeo Spikes who got bigger contracts. Who we schemed different, but popped a lot different on film prior to contract years. I remember we wanted Klein a few years ago, but he signed that, big deal that was like 8 million per year. I think that was the start of it getting fruity. Id bet this process is reviewed after the guys you mentioned...espc this year.

Resign/retain Williams Replace Mongo with top FA Guard on the market. (Scherff not tagged) Draft RB (round 1 preferred) (like Hariss or Etienne) Draft G/C (Round 2 preferred to play LG or push Morse) Above in Round 1-2 or 3 I like the idea of trading back in Round one a few slots to pick up an extra pick

A lot changed since then... In all, Im not far off from where you are, I mean i'd like him back for a fair price. I agree a fair offer is in order. Buffalo has other fat to trim that could off set some cost here... The gamefilm was uneven in 20. Sure there were some great highlights, but also tread water at times. This year proved he is very dependent on who is playing in front of him. Ability to stay healthy must be fully gauged. A position that is not as hard to find production, and that will get highlight plays in this defense if manned competently. The notion someone will overpay for Matt this particular year seems unlikely to me. I think the point someone made that. certain batches of FAs may be SOL this season could be accurate.

I hate the trade. Rams really mortgage future, and I just don't see the generalship of Stafford or him as a difference maker. He's never QB'd a remotely viable team. He'll put up some decent numbers, but it's just too much, on a team that's already dealt out too much for picks. The good news is this puts the price of a FA QB up to the stratosphere, for Jets and Pats.

Deshaun Watson officially requests trade from Houston

The notion he is "done" in Houston being overblown by hopeful Jets, Pats, and Dolphins fans who want him. ...and by fans I mean contemporary news journalists and commentators. -
Positions to look at/improve in the offseason
RichRiderBills replied to Jerry Jabber's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Yeah, I disagree with this list. Our top needs are 1. RB1 2. Interior OL 3. DT 4. Pass rusher 5. Gadget player/ playmaker Morse is our best OL but has concussion issues and age. He's also a big leader. We should keep him, but draft a good C/ G to groom, possibly step in at Gaurd. Most folks think Felciano will be gone. Id personally keep him too. TE your stuck on the notion an offense needs a playmaker at TE to win. We dont need a 100 catch TE. We need some solid depth here, but dont neccesarily need this to win. Edge...no evidence Edmumds can be out there and we know our D loves him at MLB. Edmunds is still very young and a pro bowler. He may be overrated, but he's not terrible. This is ridiculous. QB we are fine here. Maybe draft a late round QB or UDFA. The problem is no pass rush / pressure with base line while in zone. -
Frazier a “Serious Candidate” for Texans HC gig.

See my above post. I agree with you that conservative offense stuff did not match with how it was going on D. That was the dumb part. -

I think that defensive gameplan was a gamble, but could we have shut them down? They needed to be aggressive on offense...espcially situationally.Thats where we strangely played not to lose. We actually just played dumb. Even the little thing later on, like going for 2...etc... That FG at the end of the half was case in point. Thats the place you need to take risks. Should have run it on 3rd run Allen ....we have an awesome RZ offense...thats the spot to have faith. I know you can't do this but three core plays could have changed this game; The Singletary drop Going for it on that last 1st half possesion. The tipped RZ interception -

I posted this on post game; I actually dont think the defensive game plan was that bad; make them drive the feild and hope for 3-4 stops the whole game, which is a reasonable goal, and maybe they make a mistake/ turnover. Also stiffen in the RZ and force FGs. Dont get gashed on chunk plays to Hill and contain the running game. Instead we got 1 stop and 1 turnover, played terrible in the RZ...we able to stave off the chunk plays until the 2nd half, but eventually getting behind made us bring the safties up and got burned. This was compounded by our offensive failings. Daboll and Mc Ds gameplan and in game management was the far worse offender.
