  1. Yes, I agree. Bad Model. That huge cost buy in model was DTVs deal. I just cannot stand the company and relish in their demise. I hope the better method is to sell a la cart, like most other sport sites. 30 bucks a game..etc...DTV eventually did this at 50 bucks per game. Too much too late. I hate the notion of exclusive rights. I get it is a big lump sum pay check, but id rather just bid out the ability to stream at a set cost or profit share. Its also the lazy way. That way they could sell the pay per view rights to multiple networks or services at a set fee. That or the NFL develops its own network ( hey they have that) and own streaming service. Partnering with Amazon makes sense. Amazon has a good model, accesible, and could charge a la cart for choice content. They already do this, so its no real stretch. You dont need to charge 400 bucks for a package if the outreach is 10x what DTV gets. The a la carte model makes more sense. DTV only has 14 million Subscribers...Amazon 112 million! Could watch anywhere that fire stick gets a signal, much better.
  2. The NFL is not as well run and forward thinking as they think. I could go on with the above, but Goodell has IMO done a very sloppy job under his tenure with uneven, chaotic, and sometimes lazy strategy. I dont think they are that well oiled. Ratings were down before Covid an DTV had issues selling the ticket. There is still big money, but its not being maximized.
  3. Trade for Mack? Why no Judon or Shaq Barrett? Retool cap #s dont give up another 1st rounder.
  4. Dead cap is a hit to the cap we cannot mitigate, even by trading the player. It occurs for a few reasons, but yes, mostly signing bonuses that were frontloaded. Example: John Brown's salary is somewhere around 8 million but he has a cap hit of 10 million, (this is a "dead" cap hot of 2 million from bonuses, then the cap hit from the 8 million salary) Cutting or trading John saves the 8 million salary, but not the dead cap hit. Dead hits can still hit a few years after a player leaves, as signing bonuses are factored over the life of the deal, averaged per year of the contract. Retired players can have dead cap hits too for signing bonus money. For example, if Star retires....he'll hit us nearly 10 million in dead cap I believe.
  5. I mean that in the broader sense...frankly the whole video about asking for his release was a bit over dramatic to me. The browns stuff...etc...
  6. I don't think Milano is a big loss. He's a solid playmaking coverage LB, undersized. He's a good player, but guys like him are not who you break the bank for. Teams that have broken the bank for his type of player/position almost have always regretted it. I would not bet my life on him getting the giant contract he hopes. A 6'0 225 pound OLB does not fit into most defenses in the NFL...maybe more than past years, but still not many. The proof is in the season; we looked ok without him when they settled in, especially when Klein had a few games under his belt to get acclimated. Our woes when Milano was gone early had just as much to do with the lack of stout guys in the front. We fill more depth there w/ scheme fit guys and we will be ok. I'm more worried about who is playing in front, and who we get in the LORAX role.
  7. Hey, I really agree with this...and when you look at the FA defensive players available, there are a lot that are impressive. I start by getting back to finding that LORAX figure in this defense. We need guys who fit, not gimmicks. If you think about it, Rex Ryan was this gimmick too...was not a fit with all our 4-3 Players. I really like both Judon and Barrett....a few others. Even a dude like Kerrigan intrigues me. I hope Beane trusts his evaluations. If they deem Watt a great fit or a guy they see a role for, then so be it...but only if he is....don't try to sell tix by getting a guy we've heard of. I like Watt as a player, and like his energy, but I do roll my eyes sometimes at the theatrics. I'm rolling my eyes a bit at his twitter right now.
  8. ...hey Kirksey missed 5 games this last year alone on a 2 year 16 million dollar deal. He played well, but can't stay healthy. Same reason he was cut by Browns. I'd bring him in for a peanut type deal...but mostly would not plan around him. He's not the kinda guy you count on.
  9. He's tiny...much smaller than the thumpers they use. They'd have to twist some scheme stuff.
  10. I say no to Kirksey...didnt he turn down an offer sheet? We have Klein and he's been released by 2 teams now. I say draft a guy or shoot for a bit better. He wont improve our D.
  11. Cleaning house in Carolina...
  12. I didnt know Marquis Goodwin was still in the league. Man that crazy contract he got from 49ers such a terrible move. Such a from bad to worse move for Eagles to trade for him. Goodwin is the only guy Ive ever heard a team say yep, we are trying to trade that dude.
  13. The notion of 1 year rentals confuses me. Those are rougher on a tight cap. I would think there would be more 2-3 year deals that backload cash or structure creatively. Deals that have team friendly out clauses.
  14. Nah, 17 million not that much for pass rusher if you feel hes a fit. You could restructure the deal as well. I thought he had trade value as well. Does anyone know if he has a no trade clause? Because Watkins supposedly does. A lot of players will be willing to take less. JJ wants a ring. Get cap hit down to 12 -13 million and that's still likely his value. Moot now though. Article below saying Texans just being classy....yeah right. https://www.cbssports.com/nfl/news/texans-release-j-j-watt-owner-cal-mcnair-explains-why-the-team-didnt-trade-star-pass-rusher/
  15. Get r done Beane.
  16. I'm with you here. Its a tough call too, as Roberts was really good at times this season. Let's also notionally consider that John Brown getting traded or cut could be a factor here too. One guy that can do all three of these slots is a huge bonus.
  17. Can't tag anyone with our cap situation. Beane is going to need to wield a creative scalpel when it comes to contracts and capology this year, and a heavy hit like a franchise tag won't work. The Milano LB tag would be an option under differing circumstances. It's not that far off the actual projected per year value...but this LB number has been sculpted by pass rushers, not workman coverage LBs who play gritty. I know, a few of those guys have gotten big deals, sporadically, (see Milano thread) and they've nearly all been bad for the NFL and bad calls. BTW I really disagree with the acknowledged per year value for Matt, and I'm just not comfortable with paying anything close to that much for him. Transition tag # is rarely worth it, and teams can craft poison pill deals. This is amplified when a team is in tight cap situation, as the notion the player may get signed with a matching offer, or a sign of tag, can hold the FA process hostage. The tag system is slowly breaking...and it's really rarely worth it.
  18. Did "Sammy Watkins looking dejected on the sideline" win anybody Super Bowl bingo?
  19. Chiefs D make 'em easy to root against. They are trash dudes ...
  20. The effects of a big drop in the cap this year have long-standing echoes into all of our future planning and how contracts work with the cap. Its because they are long term planners i think we will see many, contracts restructured. The cap matter alone is , out over the years it's literally a massive impact that needs to be planned for by adjusting numbers. In short, the numbers have forever changed the game may forever change long term. Also the real effect on $ is beyond the cap. Dont think the economic impact just snaps back into place. There is no promise even FY21 will be the same. The league may make some adjustments as well.
  21. Well it does not need to be Toney per say....
  22. I agree, but not as much for others when you look at how teams view speed guys that factor as that 3-4 guy in their rotation. Different teams place huge value on this, and when you look at contracts like Marquis Goodwin got, Will Fuller, Sammy Watkins...you never knw what kind of payout some of these dudes get.
  23. I expect the Bills to try to restructure nearly everyone as well. Even guys normally not approached, will likely be approached. Rough year for everyone, and dang the salary cap, we don't even know what shape the Pegula's are in with actual liquid cash after a year like this. I'd also get Star in ASAP for a physical whenever we can. Guy is uncuttable virtually this year, but we need to know if he's still a football player and going to be a contributor.
  24. Maybe...but from Buffalo's standpoint can we have even 5 million tied up in a WR 4 in Brown's current role? Especially with large dollars to a KR/WR In Roberts, and McKenzie needing to be replaced via the draft or FA. Not to mention all the other needs...and Diggs and Allen new contracts looming. I hate to bring this up, because Roberts was so clutch during most of the year, but ghosted in the playoffs, and in fact played terrible in the Colts game. It may still be worthwhile to explore the John Brown/ Roberts/ Mckenzie Role being replaced by one dude. Not crazy to say a Kaderius Toney kind of guy could come in and be that.
