All NFL Contracts Should Be Performance Based ...
Bing Bong replied to T master's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
The CBA, the NFLPA, the WORLD. You're advocating for owners/franchises/companies to have full control over a contract. That doesn't happen for obvious reasons. Because a contract goes both ways. Oh and how painfully expensive it is to monitor every athlete's production subjectively, day to day? Hour to hour? Miss a meeting and you lose .1% of your salary. You would need like 2000 people just to keep track of that nonsense. Imagine you're a contract laborer. Have a setback. Boom, contract's out the window. Contracts protect the workers. That's why unions exist. Or we could go back to the lassai faire big industry: "The committee chairman asked Rockefeller whether he would stand by his anti-union principles even “if it costs all your property and kills all your employees.” Rockefeller replied, “It is a great principle.”" like what are we talking about here? This is just evolution of American economics. NFL players are virtually the same as contract employees. -
Actually does look pretty accurate here. And his throwing motion looks so weird. Like he is completely throwing with his wrist, the arm motion gets the power, but the wrist flick of the turd determines the accuracy. And even then it worked.. to your point, who cares about mechanics when you see results. Side note, I feel like Kenny Britt could have been Megatron talent with the right team, intangibles, etc. Him still being a solid WR right now after everything is a testament to that. I've seen worse "knowing motion" do better and last longer in this league. IIRC he had that mental episode with the Titans, or family, where they couldn't find him. Speculations of suicide (correct me if I'm wrong please), that got him out of the Titans QUICK. He was never the same since. Combine that with the little things like below average decision making, accuracy.. he was even on the Bills!.. but he made a 180 degree turn over the course of that 24 hours. And I'm a longhorns fan, him and Durant will forever be my favorite 'Horns. TLDR I agree with you, mechanics don't mean jack. If Allen's hitting his guys, I don't care if he's drop kicking every pass. EDIT: YouTube literally just autoplayed to his interview on undisputed where he explains he was watching a football night game and didn't have his phone with him. If true.. nuts, 10 years before cellphones didn't exist. Also, I hate Jeff Fisher with a passion. Definition of a quarterback killer.

I won't pretend to know what good footwork looks like. Sports is replete with athletes that find success practicing whatever has got them there so far. The only athlete that caught my eye as having something that didn't work was watching Vince Young throwing the football like he was flinging a turd from his hand

As opposed to Deonte Thompson bouncing around practice squads until he breaks out with career high 600 yards. He doesn't suck. Clearly a rental for the Rams (for a rookie deal they couldn't afford to resign) Hot take man. Signed a lucrative deal after his rookie contract expired. So his market value has him sucking to the tune of 4th highest contract currently. Apparently the NFL market knows a bit more than your # of teams / year argument.. Christ i'm really having to explain this? If 1000 yard seasons tell you he sucks then.. lower your bar for saying a WR sucks lmao. And we don't need to name call you dope. Owned. Feel free to pile on to this guy with me, fellow "cupcake" -
Dawg figure it out in practice. I get if the story is he begrudgingly accepted Dennison's insistence. But he's the boss and Dennison was fired for it. If he really felt strongly about it, sack up and vetoe that. Dennison was a moron before that game. I'm always going for win now. End the playoff drought for my sanity's sake. And I love McDermott's attitude on that regard. But essentially forfeiting that game jeapordized our chances. I do not care one bit if we want to see if we needed to draft a QB. We should have gone QB no matter what Peterman accomplished. Come draft several people crunched the numbers, and uh, 5th rounders have virtually no track record. Never understood the confidence they had in Peterman. He's a prospect. Don't start him in a crucial game. New narrative going on is "Tyrod threw for 65 yards, end of story". Sure unload him. If everybody's so bullish on Peterman, draft that high first QB and see how the competition pans out the next year. We're so worried at Josh allen getting "broken", yet at the same time it was "hell throw in zPete" Any given Sunday I'm implying Mills is a pass rush turnstile for ANY defense on a pass rush any given turnstile. 9-7 is not a world beater's record. It's not that good. We were 9-7 and nobody's saying "the bills were a good team." Why do the chargers break this mold? And Pete, study the scouting report.. weak record. Alot of sacks.. don't win it all by yourself man. You have a secondary unit to carry you. Tyrod at least knew that especially with his garbage weapons. Virtually anybody outside of Buffalo thought this was the biggest joke of the season. I dredged up things you probably have heard. My biggest complaint is why did McD want to know if he didn't have to draft Allen as a contingency plan. No matter how well Peterman may have played.. Draft that QB and see the competition. Short of Peterman pulling a Garoppolo, not happening, we were going to draft high. Coaches were simply too pie in the sky. McD didn't need to know Peterman that specific game. Just wait for competition next year. And if all the quarterbacks suck.. well we got a taste of Peterman year 2.

Sammy Watkins classes it up on his way out of LA

TLDR we took shady without WRs, McVay took Gurley and added (our) receivers. Turns out that goes a long way ALL I'm saying is complaints for checking down are silly. KB got hurt. Unlucky. Why are we griping about checking down. Unwarranted giving the situation. -

McVay traded assets for a one year rental for Watkins. We could have kept him for a year under rookie contract as well. So how is McVay a genius for preparing an offensive personnel (with our top 2 receivers) that successfully set up Gurley for a monster season when we could have kept him without trading assets. And set Shady up in a similar situation. It's a double standard. He's a genius no doubt. But give him Gurley without him grabbing our WRs and he's CHECKING DOWN. Our same criticism for Shady's checkdowns comments. His "genius" is having a plan in place for Gurley personell wise. Our failure was not giving a **** about WRs. -

All I said was that we complained about checkdowns. So if you agree "no one at OBD was content with our WR group." Why is the complaining over checkdowns reasonable? That's what frustrated me with OBD's narrative last year. Can we agree on this? Please? So my point is, is it valid to complain about the checkdowns when we saw the very same receivers make the dumpoffs work for McVay? Sammy never got the same game plan Miami had with Jarvis! So "he's just not good".. is not an apt comparison. Dolphins grab Sammy and use him like Jarvis, guarantee he crushes Jarvis's numbers. Crusade is over. You guys get my point? -

Put McVay in a crap situation like that and he gets him some WRs to run his genius offense. Genius move. Matter of fact he keeps Watkins.. on a rookie QB (doesn't need to trade mind you, keeps his picks, obviously fine with a rental there so clearly keeps Watkins for the year.. so obviously had no qualms at losing Watkins for nothing) and resigns Woods. HE SIGNED THEM to the Rams. That's the "genius" we're not considering. Yeah. It didn't pan out man that's what I'm getting across. McVay didn't want Zay, he wanted Watkins. How are we aggressive at WR when we drop the very WRs McVay wants. So.. he's a genius for being aggressive and getting it right! We were aggressive? Doesn't mean a hill of beans because we failed miserably while simultaneously giving McVay the receivers we had on our roster. If aggressive is dropping your top receivers, drafting a rookie and signing perennially out of shape and consequently injury prone KB week 6 then cool.. sounds like we tried pretty freaking incompently. -

What are your thoughts KTD? ^ . Those swing passes and dump offs are a lot harder when the defense knows they need 2 or 3 capable CB's to cover some crap WRs and linebackers and safeties are flying at Gurley on passing plays. Gurley's not seeing huge lanes. Heck he doesn't even have a Robert Woods stud blocker decking guys in front of him. His receivers are useless. And he's getting the ball closer to the Quarterback to get a flying chance to have a time to make a play. Hence some here complain, "stop checking it down, let's air it out to Deonte Thompson!" Queue the pass breakups and ints cause he rarely gets separation. Armchair OCs: Deonte Thompson isn't your game plan. Shady is. McVay would be well aware of that. Of course it's a moot point because he values receivers. Funny concept to some. But McVay the genius made damn sure he got his WRs. The powers that be in Buffalo thought "nah, Philly brown, Andre Holmes, and Deonte are fine. Let's roll out this juggernaut" ? KTD.. we did complain! 2 offenses. Personnel wise the difference is the RECEIVERS! -

That's what I meant by complaining. I'll go to bat on this crusade. I just want folks about the personnel personnel and simply think about why the offense ran like it did. Take the worst QB and worst OC and they do that. Take the best QB and best OC and they do that same game plan. Yeah they execute better. But the personnel defines what you do.. McVay calls check downs if he's OC for last year's Bills. -

We would lol. Because we did! Yeah McVay is great. Gurley is MVP caliber. So imagine.. purely hypothetical.. imagine a team with Goff, Gurley, and all those receivers gone. Just gone. Fill them in with some practice squad guys in your head. What happens? McVay and Goff target Gurley as much as possible. Their best talent right. That's not hard to imagine that's what we did last year with the Bills, targeted our best player Shady.. and we complained. Only difference is McVay is absolutely pissed that year being so limited he goes out and signs or trades for the best possible receivers for Goff and they have a better year offensively. Not a defense of Dennison or Tyrod. But anybody that remotely knows football sees that team on paper knows the best option is also the only option. Those guys didn't execute as well but would have done the exact same thing McVay and Goff did.. Gurley would be every defenses only focus, they don't need to even be honest about covering the wideouts, now Gurley is forced to getting the ball on shorter and shorter passes to get the ball before the defense gets to him. Let's call that a checkdown. and we complained about the checkdowns to Shady. When your hand is forced like that, all facets of the offense change. Put Goff McVay and Gurley on last years Bills team. Queue the complaining. -

Gurley's the second leading receiver for Goff that year. And he deserved the targets was an absolute stud. But he's getting YAC on passing plays when he's not being the Rams bell cow on carries, he's not lining up out wide and running corner routes lol. Call it whatever you want, not a checkdown.. sure, it's a short pass to your best player for some easy yards. Good on Goff and McVay for getting that done. Pretty sure Watkins is okay with a QB looking his way more often and not being a rental WR. ^ -
If it's not anonymous then I can assume the entire losing superbowl Eagles team were voting 1st and 2nd ballot in a desperate attempt to prove they didn't need TO to get there. "But.. but.. he was a bad teammate! He only got us close to the only Superbowl we were ever going to get to. But apart from that, he was the worst. You just gotta believe us here" And then Jeff Garcia and some others are called up to grudgingly vote him in 3rd ballot. "He was an *** but he made me a lot of money I guess. Pretty sure nobody would know who I am if I wasn't tossing it up to TO"
-
To your point I don't care about anonymoty. I wouldn't even know the guys but if you don't care either, then consider the flip side. You show me the guy that lowers the bar for Cris Carter and raises it for TO, and I'll show you a guy out a job when the people that hire this genius group realize 99% of people in legitimate football circles disagree with this guy now known publicly to be a moron. Doesn't sound too bad, then again just fire that guy anonymous or not and we're not having this stupid conversation.
-
When TO's resume is that damn obvious, yeah, make it an automatic vote. Their job is to debate on Bob freaking Hayes going to the HOF. Dear voters: waffling on voting in arguably the 2nd best WR of all time is like waffling on voting in Peyton Manning. It's too obvious. Spend that time thinking about Eli thouroughly. And stop embarrassing yourselves. You know you have a few iffy people in your hall. Cover that talent disparity and make yourselves look better by filling in that hall with the best talents you've seen, as soon as possible.

Doug Whaley Has Landed a New Job
Bing Bong replied to 26CornerBlitz's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
And can we put ourselves in Whaley's shoes in that PC? Imagine, your boss has fired everybody you've worked without indicating what they have planned for you. You've busted your *** trying to make things work for your horrible coworker who would squander any talent you bring even in a miracle. Boss throws you in a PC without telling you the future, you know you're likely getting fired, you're really pissed off but have to publicly say you don't know jack about what your boss is going to do, and hold back your anger about the exact situation you're placed in so as not to commit career suicide. Could some have handled that more gracefully? I guess, but that skillset doesn't anything to do with being a good GM/whatever job you do. Personally.. I would have exploded. and I bet most would in that situation. "I DON'T KNOW WHY THE **** I'M UP HERE, ASK THE PEGULAS THESE QUESTIONS CAUSE THEY AIN'T TELLING ME ANYTHING. //madly runs around to each reporter// DO YOU KNOW WHAT TERRY IS THINKING. DO YOU KNOW WHY I'M UP HERE? CAUSE I DON'T. WHY DON'T YOU GET ON THE PODIUM REPORTER CAUSE I'M WONDERING THE SAME THING. **** IT I KNOW WHAT'S GOING TO HAPPEN, TERRY'S FIRING ME! HE THREW REX AT ME WHEN I HAD A GOOD THING GOING AND NOW I WON'T HAVE JOB. BUT I DON'T KNOW WHEN THE HELL I'M GETTING FIRED. so uh.. Terry's great and all. Uh.. ya'll remember my 2014 defense? Let's just talk about that I guess." I swear if that happens on a more publicized team.. the Packers or Cowboys GM. The national media would be all over how dysfunctional the owners looked. Who sends their strategy guy to hold a PC who knows he's getting fired. Owners too chicken**** to say what's on their mind. Pegulas are cool and all. But I'd qualify anybody in Whaley's situation as a justified disgruntled employee. Not their finest hour. -

Bing Bong replied to Rigotz's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Jared Goff improved over last season, sure. But Gurley ran the show. Gurley runs that offense so who cares what Watkins says about Goff as he's implying more about working with his new QB. It's not like he's saying this leaving the Packers. Todd Gurley had 788 yards receiving and we'd be griping about Goff checking down too much. -
Tremaine Edmunds vs Gronk
Bing Bong replied to Happy Days Lois & Clark's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Sounds kinda Rexy. Beating the Pats is usually not making things too complicated and beating yourself, and playing something that works. Obviously there will be situations for Edmunds. But I don't want the coaches ****ting their pants because "Belicheck is playing interdemensional chess jumping through worm holes with star wars aliens so we got to get weird with our matchups cause we can't even play a good game of that damned Tic Tac To!". Just saying I want the defense confident about their matchup going in and not having nightmares of Gronk running through "Let's have our secondary blitz while the lineman drop back it's just so crazy it might work because who knooooows with Belicheck". Often Belicheck gets gifted games because the other coach is terrified. Often Belicheck looks human when the other coach sticks to a game plan that is working and makes a halftime adjustment. Watch Tremaine Edmunds gets beat for a 10 yard pass, and the coordinator blows it "ABORT. PUT SHADY ON GRONK, BELI'S HOPPING TO OTHER GALAXIES SOMETHING SOMETHING SCI FI CHESS". Play it cool, keep edmunds on Gronk or keep White on him and take a deep breath to rationalize yourself if he comes up with a play. -

EJ and JP cause they were our 1st rounders Bump. This can't be said enough times. Anybody that was good at sports will tell you they weren't broken by a singular event, improved by not playing, and needed some journey man to teach them what they should be doing anyway. -
