Early to mid 20’s now, so all I knew was the drought and the recent success.
Granted I live right in the heart of Bills Country, 5 minutes from the stadium and was born to a diehard Bills family, but if anything the lack of success made me that much more of a Bills fan during the drought because you wanted to see the success so badly. As good as we are now with big wins and playoff trips every year, nothing will be as memorable as the Tyler Boyd catch and playoff berth for me.
I don’t think any Bills moment will top that until a Super Bowl, after watching for my entire life and never making the playoffs (aside from when I was 2 or 3 years old) that was just the sweetest moment.
So if anything, on the contrary to the Super Bowl era fans and the success maybe drawing you guys in more, as a drought era fan I think the lack of success made me a bigger fan because you wanted the playoffs so bad every year.

The Bills had to be cap compliant by 4:00 PM Wednesday, so therefor any move made after they already had the cap space for. All of the extensions, restructures and cuts we saw Beane make contributed to that (Morse, Hyde, Klein, Milano, Williams, Feliciano, etc). The Bills, even after this move, are compliant and still have space left.
I would imagine that Miller’s contract has a very low cap hit year 1 and probably increases exponentially thereafter. However, from what we know, most of that will be easily voidable after year 2 and even more so after year 4.
There’s always loopholes in the cap, and Beane is a master of exploiting them which is what really makes him one of the best GM’s in the NFL.
However, everytime you do an extension/restructure/cut, you are kicking a portion of that money down the road to count against your cap in later years. This move likely didn’t hurt the team’s future too bad with the expected increasing cap space along with the smart moves by Beane, only extending and restructuring players that should still be on the roster through the entire duration of their contracts.
If they still wanted to be players in free agency/trade market, there’s still players they can extend (Poyer/Diggs/Edmunds), restructure (White/Dawkins) or cut (Beasley) to free up more space.
Bottom line — Beane is phenomenal at his job. Any of us can study and have a base understanding, but ultimately I’d say let our top 5 GM keep doing his job and don’t doubt it. After 5 years, 4 playoff seasons, 1 AFCC appearance and a whole load of potential on the team, I think he’s earned it.

It seems like this is set to be one of the hottest topics of the offseason, with Bills fans being almost exactly split on this and possibly even leaning towards cutting Beasley rather than keeping him. It makes sense between the fact of being a liability due to vaccination status, the regression in stats (82 catches, 967 yards & 4 TDs in 2020 to 82/693/1 in 2021), & the $6M savings that could be had under a tight cap.
But with that being said, what’s the plan to replace him?

My person opinion, — as of today — between the departure of Sanders & McKenzie there simply isn’t enough talent left in the WR group to also cut Beasley. I’m in favor of not only keeping Beasley, but also drafting another WR to further prepare for his departure next year. Going from Diggs, Davis, Bease, Sanders & McKenzie down to Diggs & Davis is just too much talent to lose. Even from that group of 5 down to Diggs, Davis and a rookie receiver is a significant step down.
As for Sanders & McKenzie, Sanders is too old and had quite a declining role at the end of the year. McKenzie I believe is going to get paid much more than many are anticipating.
My vote would be to go with Diggs, Davis, Beasley AND a first round rookie at receiver. It’s clearer than ever after this past Sunday that beating KC comes down to scoring a ridiculous number of points — the winner of the 4 meetings over the past 2 seasons averaged 36 ppg. So, continue to load up on firepower. You can blame it on Frazier, McDermott, Bass, Levi Wallace, game planning & etc., but points win the game bottom line.
If we were going to kick Beasley to the curb and look to replace via free agency, Christian Kirk seems like the perfect guy to replace that slot role and also take on McKenzie’s role, combing down 2 roster spots into 1.
So, are you looking to keep or replace Beasley? And if your plan/hope is to cut and replace him (seems most of the fanbase at this point), how do you wish to replace his production?

As a younger guy (23), the first game I remember watching was the 2004 loss to Pittsburgh and I honestly don’t really remember the actual game, I just remember the act of watching it. 2007 Dallas I wasn’t fully emotionally invested quite yet to have the heartbreak from the game but at that point was at least watching the entirety of the games and understanding what was happening. That being said ..

Not a lot of terrible losses during the drought years as there was quite honestly nothing at stake and never any expectations

Unfortunately Addison is not under contract for $2M next year, that would’ve been fantastic if he was, would be an absolute bargain price.
His contract, per spotrac, “automatically voids 23 days before the ‘22 league year,” and that $2M is dead cap on our 2022 books. I’m not a Cap Space and NFL roster management savant, but in my understanding it’s similar to the Taysom Hill contract that the Saints signed essentially just to create cap space. The 4yr/$95M that was actually just a 1 year contract.

When I was saying 3yr/$27M I was implying $9M/year for a total of $27M, so we’re in agreement on that.
With everything else that has to get done this offseason, I just can’t justify $9M/year for Levi, when we’re looking for more athleticism in the secondary as it is. He’s a great CB and one that ordinarily I would pound to keep on the roster, but in an offseason where we’re tight on the cap we can actually upgrade athletically and lower the cap hit of the position. I think that’s the route you have to go, more by way of your hand getting forced than by choice.
This is also in addition to already having large contracts tied up in the secondary between Tre, Micah, Poyer and even Taron Johnson now.

I’m not saying that I wouldn’t give $15M to a guy like Jones or Jordan, I actually outlined that in my own plan in the OP. I think a move like that would be huge for this team, provided that it’s a short term 1 or 2 year deal.
I was more saying to suggest that Cam Jordan might get cut and then sign somewhere for $3-$4M is an absurd pipe dream

I love the idea, but his skill AND his production level are among the ELITE edge rushers in the NFL. If Cam Jordan got cut, he might be looking to get a raise and still go ring chasing.
I can’t see Jordan signing for anything less than 2yr/$30M and his price tag would realistically actually even be higher.

I would love to bring back Wallace personally, and my saying to let him walk is no way an indictment of him. I just think in Tre’s absence other teams may have went from seeing him as a low cost #2 as you’re saying, up to a low cost #1. If McKenzie can be had cheap, you can sign him if you want.
Then I spend all the leftover money finding guys on the defense that can get to the QB. There's about 4 rental/2 year level guys out there. Go get one or two. If the FO feels they can swing a trade for an elite pass rusher - go do it, but I don't know who is getable that would be worth it.
I make a run at Larry Ogunjobi, resign Phillips to a bridge deal, upgrade #2 CB, put more weight on Epenesa and take some off Basham.I just can’t get behind cutting Beasley. I know the fans assume he’s a headache for the front office, but we’ve actually never heard McDermott or anyone else for that matter say anything. The closest to it was way back in preseason when McD said he wishes all of the guys were vaccinated. Outside of that, the team has done absolutely nothing to hint at all that he’s disrupting anything behind the scenes.
For $7M, who else are you going to find that can produce 82 catches & 830 yards for you? (Beasley’s average with Bills). Not only that, but without Beasley WR is suddenly a need, and not just in need of a contributor but also our 4th & 5th depth guys as well.
You’d be going from Diggs, Beasley, Sanders, Davis & McKenzie down to just Diggs & Davis. You’re about needing to add 3 more receivers at that point.
I think his production for the offense & value far outweighs the $7M that could be saved.
He got on the bad side of some fans this year, but from a football standpoint keeping Beasley on the roster should be a no-brainer

Bates is an RFA, it’s similar to how we were able to keep Levi Wallace on such a cheap deal this past year.
We have all the control on that Bates contract, so not only did he show up and perform and help to improve our OL, but he was on a great value deal and will continue to be on a great value deal moving forward

I’m torn on McKenzie. I think McKenzie & Beasley can and should combined into 1 roster spot and 1 role, but finding that is easier said than done. I’m very intrigued as to what his value on the open market would be as well. One day, like today, I don’t think his stats and production have shown enough to get a decent contract and that we could resign him cheap. The next day, I think his flashes on a top offense might be enough to get him signed to a bigger role elsewhere on a 3yr/$35M deal.

A little LAMP here, along with a little curiosity of everyone’s else’s offseason as well. Everyone’s grieving with the heartbreak of the season ending in their own way, and mine happens to be by trying to figure out ways to get better. I’m sure I’m not alone and others have plans/thoughts they’d like to see executed on how to make the team better and come back stronger next year.

Some notes ..- The offseason should no longer be about beating one specific team. We went 1-1 against the Chiefs this year and were 13 seconds away from 2-0. The playing field has been leveled and for years to come it’s going to be a coin flip matchup. The offseason should now be about becoming the best overall team we can be, getting the highest seed possible and therefore, theoretically, the ‘easiest’ route to the big game come playoff time.
- There’s a difficult balance that Beane will have to attack this offseason with. This is likely the last year that the teams core nucleus will remain together before the first full retool/reload/rebuild under Josh’s reign will have to take place. Singletary, Knox, Beasley, Morse, Edmunds & Poyer all become free agents in 2023. Beane has to somehow prepare to have a somewhat ‘all-in’ year, while also keeping in the back of his mind that the roster needs developmental depth for when the core undeniably takes a hit next year.
- Gabe Davis had a phenomenal game, but I don’t think that means it’s quite yet time to pencil him in as WR2. He has a tremendous amount of talent, but we haven’t seen him be steadily relied on with a heavy load yet. He’s been a backup option to multiple other players on the offense and receives much less attention from the defense because of that. Drafting a receiver high isn’t necessarily a detriment to Gabe Davis, he damn well could become WR2 and a terrific one at that. This offense is going to lose Beasley & Sanders soon, the way to win in the NFL now is with explosive firepower. Keeping adding to it in my opinion, offenses need 3 bonafide receivers in this day’s game to be dangerous.
- The way the offensive line ended the season would be just fine to roll into next year with, but just fine isn’t good enough. They ended the season hot, but I’d rather address it than take the risk of having another mid season crisis. This team doesn’t have weakness’s, just areas to improve. Offensive line is at the top of that list.
- There’s a variation of this offseason where Jerry Hughes gets resigned on a hometown discount, the development of Rousseau, Basham & Epenesa are heavily relied on, and that splash free agency signing goes to an OG like Scherff or Norwell rather than that tier 2 edge rusher.
- In an ideal world, I really want to take a safety in the first two days of the draft. Poyer & Hyde, while still currently performing in their prime, are both getting older and regression is inevitable. However, just crunching and playing with numbers, I don’t think it’s possible to retain Wallace and CB2 will become the first true ‘need’ that this team has had in 2 years. I think Wallace is more than capable of the CB2 job, but it’s simply going to come down to a numbers game at this point. He’s going to have a higher price tag than I think most are anticipating, and a younger more athletic CB may be better for the defense anyways when taking into consideration the speed of Hill.
- I’m an Edmunds truther and I think the hate is ridiculous, his game has just been watched through a telescope. That being said, where’s there’s smoke there’s fire. A safety net should definitely be considered this offseason in the event that he falls flat next year. At the right price, a player like De’Vondre Campbell seems like a great fit for the defense.
- We’ve seen time and time again that investing top assets into RB’s or big money on their second contracts simply doesn’t workout well. I think Beane is very smart and methodical with his money and likely falls in this line of thought, and with that said Singletary expires next year and Moss simply isn’t the answer. I would love to see this addressed this offseason to get ahead of it, but I don’t think the assets are available to do so. As an aside to this, with Schoen taking the job in New York, expect the Barkley rumors to be hot all offseason. Count me out on that one.
Okay // end rant. That post turned out to be much longer than anticipated, even if it doesn’t get read by everyone I still want to hear your offseason’s and what you find to be ideal. After the playoff loss, this offseason is going to be very difficult and a big testament to Beane, hopefully he can get it done and keep finding ways to propel this franchise forwards.

First year with season tickets, didn’t quite understand the process for reserving the playoffs so unfortunately my seats sold.
I said f*** it and bought 114 row 3, as a drought era fan I wouldn’t miss my first full capacity home playoff game for anything and now i just happen to be 3 seats from the field for it too. Worth the investment — unless we lose and I have to do the walk of shame with that price tag over my head lol

2023 Extension? (Poyer/Edmunds/Knox/Oliver)

Between the contracts and money handed out this offseason, Poyer changing agents and very polarizing opinions on Edmunds this is starting to become a pretty hot topic on Twitter.
Right now according to Over The Cap, the Bills are projected to have around $21,868,000 in 2023 Cap Space. With that cap space, Jordan Poyer, Tremaine Edmunds, Ed Oliver, Dawson Knox and Devin Singletary will all be due extensions. The Spotrac market value numbers are as follows,
Jordan Poyer: 2yrs/$23M
Tremaine Edmunds: 4yrs/$55M
Dawson Knox: 3yrs/$25M
Ed Oliver: $10M-$15M per year
Devin Singletary: $4M-$8M per year
Oliver & Singletary didn’t have market values yet, so just rough guesstimates for them two.
With that being said, Beane can easily clear more space next year by restructuring bonuses for Allen, Miller and Diggs, among the other magic he works.
Assuming Beane can only extend 3 of these guys, as that seems like the logical number with the projected cap space and cap hits, who does TBD think it would be?
My own take, and I suppose part of the motivation in creating this thread, would be a hot take for most in that Edmunds gets his extension before/rather than Knox getting an extension.
I think Ed Oliver is the only lock on the list for the extension and Beane has come close to saying so himself. As for Poyer, I think he’s an integral part of the defense and there’s only noise right now because he switched his agent (and a particularly noisy sidekick acting as she does). He’s coming off of an all-pro year, and a $12M/year contract on a short term deal shouldn’t price Beane out of a top 3 safety tandem in the league.
As for Edmunds, I’m an Edmunds truther (apologist?). Believe it or not, he’s only 23 years old going into his 5th season! 😆 But jokes aside, NFL execs love him for a reason. He’s fast, lengthy and just starting to come into his own.
If Beane could make the numbers for Knox work, I’m not here to say that Knox won’t get extended. But with the Bills projected to be tight to the cap, I just don’t see how Knox works in with the numbers. In my scenario, between Poyer, Edmunds and Oliver you’re looking at about $35M-$40M of extension money and maybe more.
Knox had a good development year, but it was just that, a good development year. I think fans have taken a 9 TD season and some big plays in big moments, and started to convince themselves he’s a cornerstone and vital piece of the offense. In reality, he only had 49 receptions (18th among TE’s) and 587 yards (15th). He’s just an average tight end in a WR-driven offense.
