  1. Oh that catch and immediate stop and turn was vintage Shady. I don't know if I've ever seen that before. Honorable mention was that Jason Croom catch at his feet AND behind him, he somehow picks it up and manages to get upfield like 8 yards on that play. He's a really talented kid, I'm wondering if there is any route that KB runs that Croom can't, because we oughta start targeting the guys that make plays over guys that keep letting us down. Jason played WR for three years in college before converting to TE, he's the same size as KB, we already know who the better blocker is, lets get off this whole WR1 WR2 nonsense and work in the guys with hands, toughness and determination. If it means 3 TE's and Zay then lets install some new personnel packages. You never know what you have on your team until you play a handful of real games. The good ones re-tool and adjust, not based on names but production. .
  2. Good take. Always frustrating when coaches are afraid to call the same play twice, even though its the right thing to do. The quick rub play is unbeatable when done correctly, but Daboll got away from it after the first drive. Could have cost us the game.
  3. All those scheduling idiots need to do is have Thursday football only on the nine weeks they have bye's (week 4-12) This gives fans and everyone 9 weeks of Thursday night football, and helps the players because you only schedule Thursday night games with teams coming off their bye week. Problem solved, nice compromise for players and fans alike.
  4. That's my whole point of the original post, the plays you and I remember the most from those guys are the extended plays, but look into the stats and you'll see they unload much faster than almost anyone in the league on average. The skill to avoid pressure and extend a play is something Josh already has natural ability to do. What he needs is the three step and fire out of the shotgun. 2.5 seconds or less. He did it with Zay a few times near the end, and you could see the rhythm light coming on. Flacco, Rivers and Rogers all smoked us with that this year.
  5. haha OUCH. the lowest of insults
  6. KC's defense is awful, not as bad as that idiot Booger kept saying all night, but they can be thrown and run on. Pretty good pass rush though, and Bortles is meh. Keenum had a wide open Demarius for the game winner but missed him. Would have taken the shine off KC's status right now, as Denver isn't some powerhouse by any means. Then again Titans held Jax to 6 points a few weeks ago, and Jax has no stars left on offense this week. 19-13 KC in a yawner.
  7. He already lines up sometimes out wide but usually when they want to drag a LB out of the middle of the field. I think we're really going to see Daboll's net worth to this team this Sunday. We are relatively healthy, at home against a surprisingly hot team that is probably one big rain delay away from being 4-0 and seems to be getting slowly better. Also I disagree that the Oline sucks at run blocking. Watch the film, even John Miller has some impressive pushes. Dawk is obviously a top run blocking LT. Khari Lee starting to get worked in for some power stuff. Titans 3.5 favorites seems about right but that comes down to a single turnover in my book. Plus Kbenjamin's agent and accountant called him yesterday and said dude you're going to be selling insurance next year instead of getting a long term deal from someone.
  8. Was re watching the game, trying to figure out what happened in the first half especially on all those pass plays. As I watched, I got more into watching Rodgers and his technique than what Josh was doing. (avoid pain, seek pleasure....my therapist would be proud) Everyone thinks Rodgers primary strength is throwing on the run, but it's the 3 step drop from the shotgun. Trying to figure out why Josh isn't doing more of this. Tall qb's with over the top releases like Josh can make a living off the 3 step drop, and it can really neutralize opposing pass rushers. 1-3 yard drop is essentially wide receiver screens, bubbles, end zone fades, and other extremely quick throws, something he needs to work on as a rookie, but not really a problem area yet. That's timing, trusting your receivers, using those bunched rub/pick plays--all things we don't have right now. But the 4-6 yard drop back range is where generally the 3-step game (1 step from shotgun) is played, and at most the kid should be maxing out in the 7-8 yard range which corresponds to a 5-step drop (3 steps from shotgun). Our Oline is probably not as bad as most think, but it's certainly not above average and we need to accept that and adjust qb play accordingly. The ball is out of your hands every time, on time. No more negative yardage stuff, it's either caught or it's not, but we can't take this many sacks. Guys like Brees, Rodgers and Rivers seem to live by the 2.5 second rule and it has to be the kid's number one priority. We simply don't have an adequate Center/RG to do much more than slow DT's down a little. If I'm Daboll I have a kid with an air horn and a stopwatch every single drop back and he's blowing that baby at 2.5 seconds, every snap all practice. If he can't learn to do this he's not going to survive the season unless we see Beane get busy on the trade block for interior linemen or something radical happens. Obviously there are times when the full 7 step drop and stuff like designed rollouts etc. will play into things-- like maybe on play action when the run is working, or if we seem to be winning on the Oline and giving him a pocket to climb and release, but meanwhile the focus needs to be on footwork and timing all week. I hope they get this nailed down soon, it's really a fundamental he needs to master before the season gets away from us.
  9. That's awesome. Yeah people need to get this whole WR1, WR2, WR3 stuff out of their heads for exactly the numbers you've shown above. This is a pass happy league with multiple 400 yards passers every week and many of those teams have receivers who have roughly equal skills, targets, catches etc. This WR ranking stuff is so archaic.
  10. Everyone somehow forgot that. He was active and played fast, sideline to sideline. He's fragile, going back to college, and will probably always be on the injury report, but the guy is on a rookie deal, let's not pull another Whaley/Darby trade and dump a guy who can play but counts peanuts against the cap, just so we can use the draft pick we get for him to sign another player to do the exact same thing.
  11. I agree his OC stinks and his WR's. The line is probably not that bad if we let them run block a little more and not be in such obvious down and distance situations. Daboll's plan was ridiculous. But Josh would be starting now even if we had the best backup in the league. He's learning every week, and this team is all about prepping for next year. Our team is going to look completely different and this is the perfect time to evaluate what we have and (for future's sake) get a top 5 draft slot next year. We spend the least amount of money in the league on our active roster, and most in dead money, but that all changes next year. Meanwhile, the kid is still healthy and learning. If he wants to hold the ball he's going to keep getting popped until he learns to sling it quickly and decisively. Can't learn that lesson from the bench. If he hadn't started a few games already I'd say keep him on the bench, but he's 1-1 on starts against two playoff teams, and he can get a few wins this year.
  12. The key to Josh's accuracy seems to be his footwork, and when a qb is rushed that usually goes out the window. He was rushed, hurried, knocked down and harassed quite a bit. There were a few plays where he had a good pocked and plenty of time, but he pulled a Tyrod and bailed too early. Probably because he only had a pocket a three seconds to throw just a handful of times. He had some bizarre throws in the first few possessions that were somewhere between throwaways and just wild misses. Settled down a little after that. Daboll called a poor game. Instead of a mix of pass and run, he called far too many pass plays. As far as the WR's go, not a single one seemed tuned into the fact that when the defense brings extra pressure, your route needs to change because the qb now has two seconds not four. So this left Josh running for his life and holding the ball far too long. In contrast, Rogers averaged less than 2 seconds per throw--Josh was double that. It was almost like they treated Rogers as the new guy with quick one-read throws , and we drew up a game plan for our Rookie that had him throwing from 3+ second pockets, which we simply don't have right now (not many teams do). Combine that with very limited use of Shady, and it was just an awful game plan by the Bills. The Redskins exposed Green Bay's weak run defense, but we decided the best way to attack them was to 7 step drop our rookie qb in Lambeau all day with basically no weapons to throw to. Genius.
  13. Not if you mean blitzing. Rookie qb's lead the league in the number of times they're blitzed, where guys like Rodgers, Brady and Peyton get blitzed far less because of their ability to consistently beat them.
  14. If anyone looks at this year's tape on Benjamin and his injury history, they'd pass on the kid for sure. Honestly what does he do better than any other receiver already on your team? Block? Get separation? Hands? React to blitzes by shortening his route and offering a quick target to his qb? He's living off the first two years in the league when he looked like a good draft pick. He looks like a washed up bust now. Shady would have some trade value but we'll be using him more this season or Daboll will be fired.
  15. We look like a team that is last in active roster spending ($119M) and first by $53M in dead cap. Nobody is even close to that. We look like a team with a new OC, two surprise retired offensive linemen who were solid players, and a rookie qb with very limited weapons. How can anyone expect we'd be more or less than we are now? If anything, I'm optimistic because our two first round picks do not look like busts, and we may have added some late round starters with Harry, Ray Ray, Taron etc. That's why I was so pumped about the Minnesota win, because it was FUN. We have to look for the FUN inside the season, because it's not going to be fun most of the time. I'm predicting that all four teams we've played so far this season are playoff teams this year. (assuming chargers get their defense together in time) We will get a few more wins along the way, but ultimately it's about the $100M and 10 picks we have next year to shop with. Should have given up the farm for Khalil, who is the biggest game changer on either side of the ball in the NFL. Considering we'll probably burn a first round pick on a pass rusher anyway, and he would have liked to play here, Beane missed the boat on that guy. But our $100M nest egg is still intact, and we'll be ready to add some serious talent next year.
  16. Daboll is too afraid to call back to back run plays. He seems to want to have the rookie pass every play. Head scratching
  17. The burglars should have put everything back when they saw how good he played. The sad thing is the $8/9M that we thought was too high for Woods is now a steal at what we're going to have to pay in FA next year to get someone as solid as that guy to help our lame WR corps. I'm predicting that the only guy back is Zay, unless RayRay the 6th round longshot can really step up. So far his only big play was not fair catching the punt return and costing us 30 yards.
  18. So the Packers just lost by a wide margin to the Skins who could only score 7 points on the lowly Colts the week before. Skins drove up and down the field on GB. If you didn't see the game, I suggest you watch it on the NFL rewind because the Pack has no defense. AP looked like a young kid out there, and he's basically Chris Ivory at this point in his career. Don't disagree with that unless you watch the game. They're both medium to slow at best. And now with no Mo Wilkerson it's likely they'll have even more trouble stopping the run. On offense GB still has the master back there at qb, but he's immobile as hell right now. Still great, but without RT Bulaga now, and a mediocre Oline to begin with, I have a hard time buying this 9.5 point stuff. Our offense will put up points, and there's no reason to think we can't get to Rogers. Line should be 5. Tops. Don't forget our defense has played very tough for the past 6 quarters against two 4000 yard passers with better receivers than GB has. Take the Bills and the under.
  19. Miami is gonna get smoked so badly. Easiest bet of the year.
  20. Trent looks about as advertised: a tall, long guy that has some skills but missed training camp and hasnt played meaningful football in a year. Bodine was the best we could find on short notice. Newhouse huge but slow. (Dumb penalty today v costly) Ivory slow but better than I expected. Star overpaid but ok. Anxious to see Ryan Lewis All 22. He might be good. Lord knows we need him. Orchard flashed a little today at DE. We should have got Mack, even if it cost us two firsts. One pick we will burn on an edge guy anyway, so its like giving up one 1st rounder in two years for a second round pick swap (thats the deal chicago got), raiders #2 for bears #1. Total absolute no brainer to get a dominant guy in his prime that would have loved playing here. That failure to make the trade will haunt Beane.
  21. Foster and Benj big targets but no hands. Zay and Clay can stay n play. Work in Khari Lee and Ray Ray, Weve got room for Croom Not doom And Gloom
  22. Benjamin isnt in self preservation mode, quite opposite:: he's in a contract year, the biggest "show me" season of his career, and he's playing dreadful football. Lazy route running, stone hands, half assed blocking. I called for him to be benched last week, what is it going to take? Seriously, do our coaches not have a better option than this clown? Come on man. He had two good years about 4 catches.er game avg with Cam and a lot of other weapons, but he's shown Carolina and us what he really is over and over again. Beane missed on that dude. End this bull ****
  23. Rewatched the game because it seemed like Trent was very slow in his get off, despite playing a pretty solid game considering he's so rusty. And he was definitely slow off the snap but he had some nice plays in there, his spin move pressure was great and he seems to have a knack for disrupting passing lanes. Anyway, he really reminds of Ryan Denney. Got that long body lean and motor. Was surprised to see Trent is almost as tall at 6'6 (Denney was an inch taller). For you young bucks or new fans out there, here's a Ryan Denney moment I loved
  24. Don't even go there. Pegula 50x the owner of Ralph
  25. If we took Shaq in the 3rd round, everyone would be happy with his mediocre play. He seems to be hungry this year, making more plays and getting better. The injury bug hits that dude quite a bit though, going all the way back to Clemson. He has the Donte Whitner "overdrafted" mountain to climb which I'm sure is no fun.
