  1. The shortest Bengals possession was a 1:52 TD drive that featured 4 timeouts (1 injury, 1 Bills TO, 1 Bengals TO, and the 2 minute warning). Our offense did have 2x 3 and outs and a quick turnover, but they would have to play a perfect game to have TOP be close to even. 24 points, 400 yards, 0 turnovers, 1 sack, and 36 minutes TOP is a lousy defensive game. It's not impossible to win in those circumstances, but it's a lot for an offense to overcome.
  2. There's more to a game than just points. Do you think the Bills DEF (24 points allowed) played better than the Jets DEF (27 points allowed) this week ? Turnovers, TOP, and Yards all matter and our defense was absolutely gashed the entire game without forcing a turnover. Looking at points allowed, turnovers forced, TOP, and yards allowed the DEF gave us maybe a 10-20% chance of winning the game. I'd put the offense around the same percentile.
  3. Other than the worst possible 1st quarter where we gave up back to back 5+ minute TD drives ? That's as silly as saying the offense played great because they scored a TD on their first and last possession. The injuries are a valid excuse, but the defense played like garbage. It would've been 30+ points allowed (with 0 forced turnovers) if the refs hadn't taken that 55 yard FG off the board on a phantom false start and if the Bengals were trying to score on the last drive instead of kill the clock. Defenses are allowed to stop elite offenses you know. The Cowboys were trailing 28-17 with 10 minutes left in the 4th Q and their offense just turned the ball over on downs. Their DEF stepped up against an elite offense and forced 3 straight 3 and outs on the Eagles final 3 possessions. They still fell short, but at least their DEF gave the OFF a chance.
  4. 2nd worst grounding call I can remember in a Bills game start at 1:56
  5. Don't know how to make a recording from youtube tv, but I re-watched the 4th Q plays. I think the play we're looking at is actually the play that McD challenged 1st & 10 at CIN 37 (5:40 - 4th) (No Huddle, Shotgun) J.Allen pass incomplete short left to T.Sherfield [J.Ossai]. Buffalo challenged the incomplete pass ruling, and the play was Upheld. The ruling on the field stands. (Timeout #2.) It looks like Dawkins throws Hendrickson down, and he extends his legs out to try and hit Josh as he's falling. Hendrickson didn't connect though. Is it still a penalty if the defender doesn't connect? The intent was there and was a dirty AF move, but Josh dodged it.
  6. I don't think anyone is claiming the offense has been perfect and without blame. Just pointing out the DEF has been complete garbage
  7. I think the answer is one. I don't want to click through all those boxscores again though. Our defense had one of the worst (maybe THE worst) 1st Q of any game played across the NFL this season, and we have people in here blaming the offense. You can say that the DEF is doing as well as can be expected after the injuries, but that doesn't change the fact that the DEF has been awful.
  8. How many teams won this week while allowing back to back 5+ minute TD drives to start a game? Zero How many teams won this week while allowing back to back TDs (no TOP component) to start a game? Zero Heck change it to the entire season. There's not a single team that has won a game after allowing back to back 5+minute TD drives to start a game. There's only 3 examples of teams allowing back to back TDs to start a game (no TOP component) and winning. Bills over Dolphins in week 4, Eagles over Commanders week 4, and Commanders over Broncos in week 2.
  9. Life is easier for the offense when the defense doesn't start a game by allowing back to back 5+ minute TD drives. It's also easier for the offense when the defense can get some stops early. It allows our offense to play with the entire playbook open rather than trying to play catchup. Our defense has been dreadful - so our offense is struggling accordingly. Not that the O doesn't have their own issues, but the DEF being swiss cheese has greatly reduced the number of offensive possessions we've had since week 5.
  10. We did, but that stat is wrong. He did not have a turnover in the playoffs in consecutive weeks vs Pats and Chiefs (or the regular season finale vs Jets) so that's 3 straight games with 0 turnovers.
  11. Still a 3 year contract. It goes from catastrophic dead cap in the first 3 years to a 'workable' 15mm in year 4 for cutting him. Man does that deal look bad in hindsight. Knox and Miller have workable dead cap next season if we manage to trade them post June 1st. Can't imagine there's a market for them though. They've both been bad enough this year you might consider giving up assets for another team to take them on. Based on McBeane's history I think they're most likely to just ride them out next season.
  12. Do you have a screenshot of the ball touching the ground? The pellets that we can see are pretty clearly from the back of Sherfields hand scraping the turf. The ball hits his hand, bounces up, and then Sherfield completes the catch with the ball never touching the ground. 100% a catch. Unless you have an angle that I didn't see in the broadcast.
  13. I'd put the over/under at 1 win if Kyle Allen were to finish the remainder of the season as our QB. "Any given sunday" and all that could lead to a fluky win. Really hard to see a second win though. The defense without Tre, Milano, and Jones are a below average unit. Bottom 10 if not bottom 5. On the offensive side we have Diggs, a superstar #1 WR, and that's about it. Kincaid might be a good TE. The O-line is average-ish. No running game to speak of.
  14. After watching the Eagles game I told my buddy that Dawkins should say F it and just false start on every single play. He really took my advice to heart. Now if only Spencer Brown would do the same.
  15. Does anyone think this Bills defense would get a stop either way ? I like the aggressiveness of going for 2 there. Interestingly enough it was an identical situation to the Bucs game last week, only the Bucs defense got a stop. I liked the challenge too. It 100% should've been overturned.
  16. Too many cooks in the kitchen as it were If Douglas comes in and wants to be the vocal leader of the defense I could see that leading to some issues
  17. Do the Bills REALLY need another veteran leadership type guy? Don't we already have Hyde, Poyer, and Von Miller leading the defense? Like him as a player and it's a great fit on paper for a position of need. Hopefully he doesn't clash with the leadership guys we already have
  18. I think Purdy and the offense are who they've been all year. The last 2 weeks the DEF has been shredded. Purdy and the O are not nearly as good when playing from behind and he's a turnover machine when trying to make something happen late in games.
  19. List of in-season trades in the McBeane era: 2017: Marcell Dareus to the Jaguars for a 6th 3rd+7th to the Panthers for Kelvin Benjamin 2018: Marshall Newhouse to the Panthers for a conditional pick AJ MCarron to the Raiders for a 5th 2019: Zay Jones to the Raiders for a 5th 2020: None 2021: None 2022: 7th round pick to the Falcons for Dean Marlowe Zack Moss + 6th rd to the Colts for Hines 2023: None yet Really the only notable trade was Benjamin (barf)
  20. I think there's a decent chance Beane was in on this and got into a bidding war. Seattle is giving up a lot for a rental
  21. McBeane targeting a washed up has been?
  22. Dak Prescott out here wondering why he couldn't get a ref like that
  23. This reminds me a bit of the situation McD faced with 13 seconds. Do you go for a kick short of the EZ to take a few seconds off the clock, risking a big return, or do you just take the touchback? The answer is it doesn't matter. You have a 99% chance to win either way. Thibodo'h jumped offside, Zach Wilson made 2 great throws, the Jets got an ENORMOUS assist from the refs with 'spotting' the ball, and the rest as they say is history.
  24. The Bengals are having an interesting season. Offensively they've had 2 great, 1 mediocre, and 4 awful games. Defensively has been great the whole year outside of an inexplicable pounding in Tennessee. Obviously they are trending in a better direction than the Bills with those 2 great offensive games coming in the last 3 weeks. One of those was against the Cardinals (possibly the worst team in the league) and a suddenly reeling 49ers team. The Bills have avenged their last 2 playoff losses to KC with regular season wins at KC. I think we'll do the same to the Bengals this year with our offense finally hitting high gear again.
