I think he has to free up some cap space and at least sign 1 absolute upgrade (preferably RG) fairly quickly and land a couple guys who could compete for playing time at other positions.
I'll add (and another poster mentioned this so not taking credit) maybe trade for Shaq Mason from the Bucs (they need cap space) and even extend his deal another year or two. But like you said we're all just throwing darts in the dark until free agency shapes things up a bit.
Me too but a dark horse type selection could be TE if either Kincaid or Meyers is available from a run on WR's. We would have a pretty lethal 2 TE set with either of those guys.
Add to that bringing a younger safety who is strong at the line of scrimmage and can blitz would be nice. Of course you would have to have at least decent cover skills, but that's where Hyde can compliment him.
Hyatt and Robinson would be my top 2 from that list. Either one would provide a dimension to our offense that is sorely needed. Oh, and to sooth the RB hate club, we signed Seamalu sp. or Dalton Risner to play guard in free agency. Feel better?
I don't know about any free agent tackles being much of an upgrade, but most certainly there's at least three guards that would make a very positive impact on this offensive line.
I like that list a lot though. Great weapons to choose from imo....Hyatt is a missing ingredient in our WR room and two difference making TE's. If we land one of the top guards in free agency I would love any of those 3. The 2 TE sets would be an excellent wrinkle and Hyatt can fly.
