Zach Ertz about to be traded? [Edit: or Not]
ColoradoBills replied to Rubes's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
IMO any chance that Beane was going to trade picks for Ertz is over and done with. I extremely doubt he now will trade future picks and take on the current cap hit. For all practical purposes the roster going into camp is pretty much set with maybe the exception of a vet CB. The rest of the slots will mostly be made up of UDFAs and vet minimum players. -
Exactly. Fans who do nothing but looking at the $ figure without any context have no idea what they are talking about. One would have to go through the remaining roster and first look at the upcoming free agents that are not on the books. Take the Chiefs for example. They will need to sign Orlando Brown which alone will lower their cap space greatly. I for one have given up trying to explain that.

Look up Hollister's Special Teams snaps and tackles. More than Gilliam. Got to find those guys that can produce on both teams. I'm hoping a depth player steps up to take Jones's gunner spot. Those 2 extra roster spots would be great!
-
Everyone knows that. My point is they will have to prove their worth is so unique that they eat up roster spots. I believe they will have competition and only 1 will make the cuts.

No way they keep only 8 DL and keep 6LBs. Taiwan Jones and Reggie Gilliam are not locks in my book. No way no how. Fromm has to PROVE he is the long term back up or he is PS bound.

First, it's not any kind of crisis. Let's look at this logically if you can. Beane and the Bills made a big investment into Edmunds. You (among others) believe it was foolish, fine. It's going to boil down to how does Edmunds play this year and now that the 5th year option has been picked up next year to see how much his "perceived worth" would be for a long term 2nd contract. I get it you (and others) think the $12M could be a waste. He will have some sort of value in 2022 so the difference of that value versus the $12M is all that is in question. That value is going to be determined as to how well or not he plays this year. No one knows that for sure. IF he doesn't play well there is a chance that his contract could be traded and some of the moneys recouped. If he improves incrementally then it will be determined in 2022. THEN your point of a Transition Tag may come into play. Bottom line is he could sign a long term contract for less that anticipated in the next few months or this could drag on until the 2023 season. The Bills and Beane evidently want to give this more time. I get the feeling you won't like this explanation but maybe you will.

Perfect reply! It was after the Bills comeback game against Carolina. Kiko had a hell of a game as a rookie. I was on vacation and at the game (50 yard line seats behind the Bills bench) with my 2 brothers. Not defending my stupidity but I could of bought an EJ Manuel Jersey after the game! -

Guess I need a Rousseau nameplate to cover up my drunken mistake at the Ralph's Bills Store back in 2013. -

Lets see who wins the AFC Divisions first. On an unrelated note: What is the obsession of having to rank everything, everywhere, all the time? I just don't get it. I'm old I guess.- 460 replies

Bills 2021 Draft - Overall Assessment
ColoradoBills replied to Hapless Bills Fan's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
FWIW I don't either. The only way I could see Ertz in a Bills uniform is if he is cut and takes a one year "lets see if you fit with Josh" contract. I doubt extremely he would do that. Signing a 3 year money contract would be detrimental I believe. His skills will be diminishing. -

Gunner, how many players did you have in total on your board? I'm just curious and it would give me some context. -
Bills 2021 Draft - Overall Assessment
ColoradoBills replied to Hapless Bills Fan's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
As the draft drew nearer I changed my opinion on drafting a RB high. I agree that Breida and Williams could be a decent upgrade. Once again for others worried about the running game. It was well documented the Bills almost worked exclusively on the passing game during the abbreviated offseason. Adding Diggs and Davis and having Josh Allen pass/pass/pass all camp is what made his "jump" possible. It stands to reason the running game both in RB practice and run blocking suffered. That will be corrected this offseason! The same holds true for last years defense against the run. They didn't see much runs to work on on their running game response. As for the DE and DL. Beane threw some money at it last year during FA and a good amount of that didn't stick. It happens and he moved on from it this draft. It's a good thing he wasn't too stubborn about that. -
I'm starting to guess that Star will play the perceived running downs with Butler spelling him. Oliver with Harry spelling as 3T and during passing type downs they will have 3 DEs with them with both Star and Butler sitting. I could see something like that as a scheme change from McDermott. They will need a replacement for Star next year probably but for those who know more than I isn't a 1T DT like the easiest DL position for a player to acclimate to?

FWIW. https://www.profootballnetwork.com/quintin-morris-nfl-draft-player-profile-bowling-green-tight-end/ Quintin Morris’ best fits in the 2021 NFL Draft Morris fits best with a team that isn’t in desperate need of a TE1. Joining a team that will use him off the line and work with his skill set makes the most sense — a team like the Buffalo Bills who have a talented tight end in Dawson Knox. Morris could join Knox and create a dynamic young tight end duo while also providing another much-needed weapon for Josh Allen.

Bills 2021 Draft - Overall Assessment
ColoradoBills replied to Hapless Bills Fan's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
1. Re-sign your own UFAs that you want to retain. 2. Sign/Trade for new veteran talent. 3. Keep players you project will improve in the coming year. 4. Draft 5. Sign UDFA for camp and hope for a hit. 6. Tweek the roster. 7. Cuts/Trades/Signings at cutdown day. 8 Sign up the Practice Squad. I always look at the offseason this way. Draft is just one leg of the total journey. Waiting till the final roster is the only thing I want to compare from the previous year.
