  1. Even after the Bills eating $700k after a trade involving Howard, I just don't think Beane can find a team to bite. If he does it will be in the next 24 hours. Howard probably sticks as others have said for 2 TE sets and they keep Morris (who will not dress in a lot of games) as a Knox replacement if he gets dinged up. Morris has much more upside I believe than Sweeney. That being said the Bills can't be happy with Howards overall play in camp/preseason. I know I'm not. He hasn't performed for the money they laid out on his contract. Sweeney might get claimed and if he does Beane will need to find another TE for the PS.
  2. Thanks. One thing we all have to accept is these sites do the best they can for us fans but the official stuff is only known by the teams/NFL. It seems so. There was more tweaking of the PS in the last year and it does sound like there is a maximum now.
  3. Thanks. I will use it the next few days.
  4. Well played. I got to dust off the DVD of that and give it another watch. It's been too long! I was stationed in the USAF south of Miami when that whole thing was going on. My favorite "gangster" movie after the Godfather.
  5. So do they.
  6. Great timing and a great find. It's such a toss-up with all 3 of the TEs. I do agree with the Daboll thing. Good chance that Beane will be hunting for PS TEs later this week. If any of this is true and for other reasons, it's likely that 3 TEs are kept. So, who are the other 2? The one thing I would add is about Howard's past performance. I lessen its importance due to his injury history. He looks slower than ever. Beane opened up enough money to make a Howard cut possible, so I put less on that than others. To me it's keeping the best 3 for what they want to do this season. I think Morris gets one the spots due to his catching ability. That leaves it up between Howard and Sweeney IMO. It's tough call after that.
  7. It seems to me these are their options. 1. They are working out guys who are not currently on any team. 2. They can put in a waiver claim on a cut punter they are high on. 3. If they don't get a waived punter, they can try out any remaining guys. 4. If they sign a guy who was waived and claimed, they can always cut him if they feel they have an upgrade. I get the feeling a lot of punters are chewing at the bit to sign in Buffalo. It should work out OK.
  8. Yep. I speculated that yesterday in a post. It saves doing one more cut and re-sign.
  9. Flacco is "Butt-Fire". I saw the gif.
  10. If Barkley is on the PS I see minimal risk. He can be activated if needed. The only risk is having 2 QBs going down in one game. Even if it happens, I'm sure the chances of QB3 coming in cold off the bench and winning that game are not great. With the new rules allowing a PS player to get "elevated" for a game a couple times a year more teams are keeping only 2 QBs than ever before.
  11. It's a punter, how about we lessen the deity need and go with Joseph "Punt son of Jacob"?
  12. I believe this to be true. The flip side is the Bills are bringing back the vast majority of core ST players from last year. It would not look good for STC Smiley if he can't develop one of the new guys to take his spot. He has a job to do too.
  13. I agree with all your alternatives. I would never say Howard was a cut until the Panthers game. I watched him a lot and wasn't impressed. OJ being cut is my biggest shocker. Agree about Sweeney for the most part and IF they cut/traded OJ they probably would keep Sweeney. We fans don't know Tre's schedule, so I gave it both ways. McCloud is someone I wish they could keep because he could get claimed if waived. They may keep him if Poyer's future is murky. Kumerow's ST worth could easily be made up by McCloud IMO. Truthfully, my roster is what I think will happen. Your points are more what I hope happens. I made a huge error in forgetting Gilliam on my roster. I edited it. It just has to Kumerow who is gone.
  14. Mainly put there for those who think he isn't going to make the 53. I think he does and if he doesn't, he gets claimed. I kind of did this for posters to discuss who cut and who picked up. Right. They keep most and cut if they make moves. They get a day to adjust the roster. Giants are in a good waiver spot at 5. Jags Lions Texans Jets Giants
  15. Offense: 25 QB: Allen, Keenum RB: Singletary, Moss, Cook, Jones, Gilliam WR: Diggs, Davis, McKenzie, Shakir, Crowder, Hodgins TE: Knox, Morris, Sweeney OL: Dawkins, Saffold, Morse, Bates, Brown, Quessenberry, Doyle, Mancz, Van Roten Defense: 25 DE: Miller, Rousseau, Epenesa, Basham, Lawson DT: Oliver, Jones, Settle, Phillips LB: Edmunds, Milano, Dodson, Bernard, Matakevich, Spector* CB: Elam, Jackson, Johnson, Benford, Neal, Lewis*(cut if Tre can play before week 4) S: Hyde, Poyer, J. Johnson, Hamlin ST: K: Bass P: TBD LS: Ferguson PUP: White, Boettger (When Tre comes back Lewis cut) (Ike stays on IR all year unless Von Rotten plays bad) IR: Stevenson (stays all year unless injuries to WRs) Commish/Reserve: Smith (When Smith returns Spector cut) Bryant and McCloud claimed off waivers Duke Johnson, Bobby Hart signed as FAs in the first few weeks
  16. All of his guaranteed money was cleared when he was traded. He has no dead cap hit right now. His salary will guarantee after the cutdown. Not that I want the Bills to cut him.
  17. There is a number of guys who are almost "coin tosses" as to whether they make the team or get cut. The Bills history has been signing these guys to the PS with some reliability they are available. Some or more than normal may get claimed. Free agents can sign with whomever they want. The waived guys have no choice where they go if claimed.
  18. No doubt GMs have a better idea than any of us. I have speculated that none of the guys talked about lately will get an extension this year. I think Beane is going to let this year play out and see where the cap is going and move on from there. If he signs one of them the rest will say "what about me"? This way he sits back and watches how everyone plays this year.
  19. If you're talking 2 years out Gabe Davis could be a big decision. Jones and Settle also are up. Hell, Bass will cost $5M per. Looking forward is not a big priority for most of this board but I'm sure Beane and his boys consider it all the time.
  20. A list of speculated cuts who have a chance of being claimed by another team. Please stay away Daboll, LOL. Brandon Bryant Nick McCloud (got claimed off OS last year by CIN) Joe Gilles-Harris Isaiah Hodgins Mike Love Josh Thomas Raheem Blackshear Some vet cuts who could sign with other teams: Jake Kumerow Duke Johnson Bobby Hart Does anyone have any others? Losing a few of these players would really weaken the PS and it could be that Beane will be having to bring it a lot more guys for workouts than he has in the past.
  21. The NFL is ready for cutdown to 53 this week. I thought it would be good to do a history for the last 4 years of how many waived players got claimed the day after cutdown. Also, to speculate what Bills players may get claimed. At this time of year some vets also get cut but outright sign with other NFL teams (a player like Duke Johnson comes to mind). After the main rosters are completed, there are some more waived players who get claimed as teams tweak their rosters probably due to the teams picking up some waived players. Here is the total number of players claimed the day after cutdown: Note: Spotrac numbers and I will link the years below. 2021 - 27 total 2020 - 16 (the low number has to have a Covid influence and maybe reflects the expanded PS roster size) 2019 - 37 total 2018 - 40 total I find the number of claimed players to be relatively low, but one would imagine that the better roster teams lose more players getting claimed than the poor roster teams (who no doubt pick up a lot more of these players). The Bills have had a pretty good PS the last few years and also have had players plucked by other teams. With Daboll and others no doubt looking at teams like the Bills, I'm hoping the Bills can field another good PS. I'll post in a reply as to some of the Bills "perspective" cuts who may get claimed this week. https://www.spotrac.com/nfl/transactions/2021/claimed/ https://www.spotrac.com/nfl/transactions/2020/claimed/ https://www.spotrac.com/nfl/transactions/2019/claimed/ https://www.spotrac.com/nfl/transactions/2018/claimed/ Note: It shows the whole season, so you need to scroll down to the "day after" cutdown to see players.
  22. $207k per year. I wouldn't be surprised if he gets a little more.
