Someone recently posted that (it may have been you) so I went onto Spotrac and I was shocked. After I saw that I started to think Motor may sign a team friendly contract to avoid that mess. Now with the Hines trade I'm totally unsure about all this RB stuff. Like you said, how it "shakes out" in the whole league is anyone's guess.
-
I think too many fans are taking the Spotrac "Market Value" of $5.3M per on a 3-year deal as cut in stone. I'm on Spotrac a lot and they can be a good basis for a player's value. I can also say that when it comes to RBs they can be off by a lot compared to other positions. I personally I see that number lower. Another thing that's brutal is this. If Motor's touches are reduced, for whatever reason going forward this year, I can see that number going down even further than I currently estimate. When it comes to a RB 2nd contract, it's seeming to me it's all about the guaranteed money and how it is structured. Then again, lots of GMs want players from the top teams and pay crazy for the chance to get them. I have to believe that whatever Beane would offer (if an offer is given) will make Motor test the market. Another reason for the Hines trade, IMO.

Technically I said, "they must not trust Cook". You have added the yet. I don't want to argue with a fellow Bills fan over an opinion. The only way to judge it fairly is to see if Cook's touches get less, more or stay the same now that Hines is on the team. Let's see what happens in the next few weeks. Are you good with that?
-
I said "wait until next year" as a way to prove to us fans, if they do or don't. Listen, we are fans speculating about what a football team's staff thinks about a player. You see it one way and I see it another. As for me, I see no evidence whatsoever that the team has thrown in the towel on their 2nd round RB in 7 games.
-
I see what you did there. Nice.
-
Some of them don't.

Hines ripped off a couple 30 yard runs against the Bills in the 2020 playoff game with the Colts. He had 6 rushes for 75 yards.
-
It was dumping a RB for a better RB first and foremost. It was having that better RB as an insurance against injury for the playoffs. It added experience if Devin went down, and everything had to rest on a rookie's shoulders. That's how I see it and how I think Beane saw it. I'll stick with my assumption that Cook is fine and will be the Buffalo Bills RB1 next season. Fans may disagree with me, but the only way to know is to wait until next year. As to Kamera, he didn't go anywhere, and the team even said he wasn't. McCaffrey was a pipedream that Beane had to make an offer for. IF by some crazy stretch of the imagination, Christian became a Bill for what Beane was offering, then it would have changed some things.

When does Benford transition to Safety?

I was talking about the next 6 games. Bills don't play the Bengals until week 17. -
Bravo. Thanks too about these Cook comparisons. This "he's the same as Cook" and "they must not trust Cook" stuff is ludicrous.
-
Having both Singletary and Hines staying next year is debatable. I think Hines takes a bit of pay cut to get guaranteed money. If all this causes Motor to take a team friendly contract, all the better. I can't pretend to know what Beane thinks of all that. The main points of your post were outstanding, and I agree with all of them.

I can only tell you what I believe to be true about that. I remember draft night when that got brought up and there was a video of him looking mad. Then there was an earlier video of him talking to Beane (or another Bills rep) that they were going to draft him. He was happy with that call and then got mad later when everyone at his party was going crazy as the draft pick was announced and he was getting another call as the confirmed pick. Bottom line, if my details aren't exact, is that it was a nothing thing that others are holding on to as fact. McDermott spoke about the practice stuff, and I believe that to be true. I think it was the "I'm good and I got a brother that's good" rookie attitude that didn't sit well with the staff. It seems to be over with as far as their concerned, so it's not a big deal to me too. The first carry fumble and a dropped screen didn't help early on. The way I see how the team and McD acted on his good plays Sunday night makes me think he is "back on track". FWIW.

Maybe you are not thinking about next year. That doesn't mean Beane isn't. Doesn't this also protect the RB room now in case of injury? Were you one of the few confident in Moss taking over a larger role?
-
This has been said numerous times. What are your reasons that Cook cannot be the RB1 next year? If he happens to be able to do more as a receiver too, is that a bad thing? Beane just needs to get a cheap, bigger back that can play some ST to round out the room.
-
That was the game against Buffalo I was looking for and couldn't find. It was the playoffs. Thank you. It was driving me a little crazy.
-
This was my theory when I first heard of the trade rumor for Hines and after I gave it some thought. The fact that Beane did this makes me think that from what they have seen so far with Cook is that he can be a RB1. Add a cheap RB3 short yardage guy who can play some ST and the running back room is set for next year. As to the money, Hines has a contract now that is set-up for him to take a small pay cut in return for some guaranteed dollars.

I know. My point was that Johnson will be gone. Dean has an opening for a depth role if he shows he's worthy.
-
Agree, J Johnson is an UFA next year and I don't see him getting re-signed. Marlowe is capable and knowing the system this late in the year is a big plus. I now feel better at the S position.

WTH. I just said I thought OBJ will be a Bill later in the year. -

I actually believe this too, depending of course on his health. It would be a short-term thing with OBJ. Beane also could do a move if it helps this year but also a long-term gain. He'll do it if it's there and won't if it isn't. -
