  1. It could reach 200 pages if the subject of the "pros and cons" of QBs running too much is breached.
  2. Wow Alpha, you're a very good poster with a lot of good insight but I invite you to re-read your post. It is completely backwards to what a team wants from a backup QB. You end your Cam post with, "but the real question is whether or not his arm is dead". Let me ask you this. Let's say for the sake of argument, that Cam can still run the way he did in 2016. I say he can't, but let's say some fans say he can. Is this the QB you want to bring to camp for the 2nd team? I can't think of a QB less qualified to help the Bills 2nd team offense during camp than Cam. I say this because his arm IS DEAD. Don't waste time with an old washed-up former MVP QB.
  3. I don't know many Bills fans portraying Mitch Morse as anything more than a tick above a good NFL Center. His replacement IMO is NOT a backup like Bates. Next season a top Center is needed to be drafted. I don't know what you're trying to get at other than that OBD is lacking in judgement. I may be wrong in that, but that's how your post reads to me. The 2023 overall draft is not going to be determined as to what the 1st round pick is going to be by position. It will be, IMO, what the overall picks are chosen. It's a weak draft and the 1st round pick is a risk at best.
  4. Couldn't agree more with you. The only thing I'll add is they need to do it now as next year a Center will be needed to be drafted most likely. Josh deserves a solid center. I have no problem with Bates as backup, but I'd much rather see a full-time college center taking over from Morse. There's a lot that goes on between the ears at that position and I don't want any hopeful quick fixes.
  5. His last 3 seasons have been bad, real bad. Add to it, he didn't even play last year. His record during his "swan song years" is 7-15 with all 7 wins playing for NE. 2 of those wins against the 2-14 Jets. His final season with Carolina, Cam's record was 0-5. 4 Passing TDs, 5 INTs, 54% completions, 4 Fumbles. He did do well as a short yardage RB! Kyle Allen will be nothing more than a backup QB in the NFL going forward and his career record is 7-12 playing for Carolina, Washington and Houston. During those times Allen beats Cam in just about every QB passing statistic. Cam was a great QB in his prime and helped usher in a whole new type of QB play into the NFL. He will be remembered for that! He needs to admit to himself that it's over.
  6. His arm was shot when he played for NE in 2020. He was a complete embarrassment in his 0-5 record back in Carolina in 2021. The Bills don't need an old broken down QB in camp. What good would that be? In 2023, Kyle Allen is a better QB than Cam Newton.
  7. Cam Newton is shot as an NFL QB. He is not a MASSIVE upgrade over anyone. No team wanted him last year and no team will sign him this year.
  8. Um....no. I have a bit of faith the Kyle Allen can be coached up to become a long term backup for Josh and the Bills.
  9. I'm just saying at his age and importance you don't need to rush him back. A reinjury would be devastating.
  10. I know he is ahead of schedule, and we will have to see exactly what that means. I for one would like to see him come around real S L O W. He is not needed in September or even October. He is needed in January and early February. If he does for whatever reason start on PUP for the season, it's only 4 games.
  11. Beane has around $6M left. Barely enough to cover rookies, PS and IR replacements and a couple million for the season. I see that 1 $5M type signing as the tops he can go. It would mean he gets some money out or Taron Johnson's contract and maybe Morse. Going to the well again with Diggs, Dawkins and White seem counterproductive. There really isn't anything else.
  12. I'm beginning to prepare myself for Beane being in a bad spot at #27. A very good chance all his round 1 talent will be gone, and he won't find a trade down partner. He then will be stuck with reaching for a player. It then could come down to a player in a position I don't favor and while I will learn to live with that decision, this board will probably go ape-poop over it. My greatest hope will be a CB that other teams have a 1st round grade on, and a need for, will want to trade up for at #27. I hope, I hope.
  13. I tend to agree with your thoughts. One thing I feel happened last year was Dorsey and Josh seemed to push the play more in line of what they believed could work well (and a lot of it did) more than scheming to what the opposing D's weakness were. The Bills O seemed to be pretty much the same for a large part of the season. I'm going to believe for now, that Dorsey is a very smart football man and has the tools to be great at what he does. I do want to see more of "one play setting up another" that I see from more seasoned OCs. He is always described as "intense", and I hope he restrains that some and gets a little more calculating.
  14. Just as the anticipated return of the swallows to San Juan Capistrano so is a thread about BPA and teams draft needs. Part of the reason is how web sites present their "Big Boards" to fans. They always have it listed from #1-#250 (or how ever far they go). This has been proven wrong by NFL teams and former GMs for years. Players are stacked by POSITION in levels that ultimately relates to draft rounds or parts of rounds, or in the case of later rounds, multiple rounds. Why some fans insist that is not true is a puzzlement to me. Here are 2 lengthy articles about how it's done. They are lengthy because the process that goes into it is complicated. The ESPN article even has some interesting symbols that teams use to identify specific areas of concern on players. I invite any fan who still believes in BPA (or fans in general who want to understand the process) to read the articles. https://www.espn.com/nfl/story/_/id/31209852/nfl-draft-board-building-101-secretive-yearlong-grind https://bleacherreport.com/articles/1953077-how-nfl-teams-put-together-a-big-board-for-the-nfl-draft
  15. Sorry, I missed that. I agree with you about OL, LB and WR.
  16. You use the word "primary" which could be a bit of a confusing word. 11 personnel is of course the primary but teams vary that quite a bit. Chiefs use 12 32% and use 13 10%. So multiple tight ends pushing half the time. Bills use 12 8% and 13 0%. These are 1st down stats. I don't see the need for the Bills to draft a TE in the 1st round, but they could definitely use on in the 3rd or 4th. https://www.nfeloapp.com/nfl-power-ratings/nfl-team-tendencies/
  17. I would venture to say that Shaq Lawson will probably get signed under the vet salary benefit program after the draft. There always is a chance that a DE on Beane's board is sticking out in the 5th or 6th rounds and that may affect his signing. With Von Miller having a good chance of starting the season on PUP (or is on the team to start the season but not active), I see Shaq as a good possibility of making the team (at least to begin with). If anything, he is a good yardstick for a younger guy to beat out in camp.
  18. Where are you getting your stats that Knox is the #23 TE? Knox had a 74% catch rate on 65 targets with 7 TDs. In today's NFL he should have a minimum number of targets pushing 90. That would put his yards receiving in the 700s. That's around top 5 for the league and his TDs already are top 3. They need only to throw him the ball more.
  19. I'm not a big fan of OBJ and less so after his 2nd ACL. If he does come down to a 1-year deal, it will most likely be for more than Beane would pay. Some team with cash will pay.
  20. $15M per year on a long-term deal. If Beane signed him to that I'd make him pee in a cup. OBJ has said he would like to play for a contender and find a place that could serve as “home,” meaning he’d like a long-term deal. The Bills, Giants, Jets and Chiefs are among the teams that could still be interested in the firmer Pro Bowler.
  21. Thanks for the thread @HappyDays You have no idea how much thread like these help me for the draft. I sure hope the Bills can get another Dawson Knox sized TE and Dorsey learns how to maximize their production.
  22. Exactly. This guy most likely will get signed right after the draft by some team needing depth competition. The positive I see about only Q being signed at an OT spot and no one else gives me hope for the draft. If the board doesn't fall right a couple of these kind of guys will come to camp. It has been true in a lot of instances in the past. If there is no OL taken by Day 2 this year, I will be disappointed. However, I'm not going to write off this year until I see the final OL roster going to camp. It's premature to do that THIS year.
  23. His cap hit was $1.045M last year. It doesn't go lower than minimum. Shaq had 3.5 sacks on 9 QB hits, a forced fumble, 6 tackles for losses and a defended pass. He outplayed his money with his 44% snap count.
  24. I don't think Beane is spending any time thinking about a Hopkins trade anymore. He no doubt listened to Arizona's wants, maybe offered them an idea where his thoughts are, and it sat there. He's concerned now about the draft and what to do immediately after. Unless big changes in Arizona happen, that's where it lies.
  25. It's a copycat league is it not? Let me put it another way. KC uses it's other TEs almost as much as the Bills use Knox. Last season the Chiefs threw the ball to TEs over 200 times. Bills threw the ball to Knox 65 times. There is plenty of opportunity for the Bills to use their TEs more and "copycatting" some of KC plays is not illogical.
