  1. Ah yes. The Upstate versus Capital District versus Adirondacks versus Northern versus Central versus Southern Tier versus Western controversy. No two people divide NY the same way. Utica folks will no doubt get butt hurt and put this on the news for a few days. The mayor will give a speech and might even invite the writers to come and see what a great place it is. It’s true that Utica isn’t quite as depressing as it was about ten years ago, but it’s still easy to make fun of the place.
  2. Old: The Far Side Calvin and Hobbes Bloom County (original version) Doonesbury (original version) Current: Dilbert (although I think sometimes the punch line is a little lame) The Lockhorns (more like reality than a comic) Shoe i read all of them in my local paper, and I enjoy the classics like Beetle Bailey, Hi and Lois, Peanuts, etc., but I wouldn’t call them favorites. My local paper has the worst, wimpiest comics on the planet.
  3. A lonely mother gazing out of her window Staring at a son that she just can't touch If at any time he's in a jam she'll be by his side But he doesn't realize he hurts her so much But all the praying just ain't helping at all 'Cause he can't seem to keep his self out of trouble So, he goes out and he makes his money the best way he know how Another body laying cold in the gutter Listen to me Don't go chasing waterfalls Please stick to the rivers and the lakes that you're used to I know that you're gonna have it your way or nothing at all But I think you're moving too fast
  4. Lord, I was born a ramblin' man Tryin' to make a livin' and doin' the best I can And when it's time for leavin' I hope you'll understand That I was born a ramblin' man I'm on my way to New Orleans this mornin' I'm leavin' out of Nashville, Tennessee They're always having a good time down on the bayou Lord, them Delta women think the world of me
  5. He drinks a Whiskey drink, he drinks a Vodka drink He drinks a Lager drink, he drinks a Cider drink He sings the songs that remind him of the good times He sings the songs that remind him of the best times I get knocked down, but I get up again You are never gonna keep me down
  6. Every night on my knees I pray Dear Lord, Hear my plea; Don't ever let another take her love from me or I would surely die. Her love is heavenly, when her arms enfold me, I hear a tender rhapsody; but in reality she doesn't even know me. Just my imagination once again runnin' way with me. Tell you it was just my imagination runnin' away with me.
  7. Good morning, America How are you? Say don't you know me? I'm your native son I'm the train they call the city of New Orleans I'll be gone five hundred miles when the day is done Nighttime on the city of New Orleans Changing cars in Memphis, Tennessee Half way home, we'll be there by morning Through the Mississippi darkness Rolling down to the sea
  8. Down in Louisiana, where the alligators grow so mean Lived a girl, that I swear to the world Made the alligators look tame Polk salad Annie, gators got your granny Everybody said it was a shame Because her momma was a workin' on the chain gang A mean vicious woman

  10. You are my sunshine My only sunshine You make me happy When skies are grey You'll never know, dear How much I love you Please don't take my sunshine away
  11. I remember the 1973 playoffs when Havlicek tried to play with an injured shoulder. My best friend in high school was a big Celtics fan, so I was rooting for them. We were very disappointed when the Celtics lost to the Knicks. RIP.
  12. Seventy-three men sailed up from the San Francisco Bay Rolled off of their ship, and here's what they had to say "We're callin' everyone to ride along to another shore We can laugh our lives away and be free once more" But no one heard them callin', no one came at all 'Cause they were too busy watchin' those old raindrops fall As a storm was blowin' out on the peaceful sea Seventy-three men sailed off to history Ride, captain ride upon your mystery ship Be amazed at the friends you have here on your trip
  13. I heard my mama cry I heard her pray the night Chicago died Brother what a night the people saw Brother what a fight the people saw Yes indeed! And there was no sound at all But the clock upon the wall Then the door burst open wide And my daddy stepped inside And he kissed my mama's face And he brushed her tears away
  14. Against the wind We were runnin against the wind We were young and strong we were runnin against the wind
  15. All around the mulberry bush The monkey chased the weasel The monkey thought 'twas all in fun Pop! Goes the Weasel!
  16. 55K after two years on one car 150K after ten years on the other Camry and other Camry Good commuter vehicles, not bad but not great for long drives
  17. I couldn’t tell them apart. Watching that game was no fun for me. Both teams also had mostly white helmets. It turns out it was a nationwide topic of conversation after that game. According to Google, 8% of men with Northern European heritage are red-green colorblind to some extent. This has been discussed before on this forum, but it’s a fun topic so I don’t mind bringing it up again.
  18. I was diagnosed as color blind in fourth grade when I first started wearing glasses to correct for being nearsighted. I am moderately red-green colorblind. Pretty common for a male. My father was relieved to find out. He couldn’t understand why I couldn’t identify colors correctly. He was afraid that I was just stupid. I took the tests on the linked website and I pretty consistently tested positive for red-green colorblind with emphasis on the green.
  19. Today, while the blossoms still cling to the vine I'll taste your strawberries, I'll drink your sweet wine A million tomorrows shall all pass away 'Ere I forget all the joy that is mine, today
  20. Oh, I used to be disgusted Now I try to be amused But since their wings have got rusted You know the angels wanna wear my red shoes But when they told me 'bout their side of the bargain That's when I knew that I could not refuse And I won't get any older Now the angels wanna wear my red shoes
  21. Eric Heiden (I looked it up) same muscles... bike riders and speed skaters have big thighs and smallish upper bodies
  22. Nope. I remember that they played their classic hits. I couldn’t tell you in what order, or what else they played.
  23. I get a Canadian tv station on my cable. I like their coverage better than the NBC nonsense. I sometimes find myself watching the Canadian channel and rooting for the Canadian athletes. One of their commentators is Sara Clara Hughes who won medals in bicycle and speed skating. Dual sport, winter and summer. Pretty cool.
