Punters and kickers shouldn’t count. At some point they could have a bad game. If their performance is chronically bad, they will get cut or traded. Josh shouldn’t count, he’s in a separate category. Star is often on the bad list because his name is rarely called even though he is on the field a lot. Same with DiMarco. Offensive line is a popular target. Yeldon has fumbled in the past. He’s one more fumble away from being a target. Hughes and Lee Smith can hurt with ill timed Offside/motion penalties. They are possible targets. I think we we have to wait and see now that Zay is gone.

The Angry Run got some publicity for the Bills. The Bills games don’t often fit the mold for highlight shows. Not a lot of big plays. More of a grind it out philosophy. Defense that bends but doesn’t break. Not a lot of big hits or flashy interceptions. We’ve all seen the Bills get off to a good start to a season and then flop. Let’s see what happens over the next few games. And beating Miami won’t help.

The company that I worked for was often a subcontractor to another customer. Our work was highly regarded. Occasionally our customer would get an extension from their customer, and it would take a few months for the extension to trickle down to us. Our customer thought of themselves as tough negotiators, and they would make us sweat it out to see if they could get concessions from us. After many, many years of this, the ultimate customer realized that our customer was jerking us around and siphoning off profit for themselves, and the ultimate customer ended up coming directly to us for future contracts.

My whole reason for being is to worry about things I can’t control. I tell my kids that I will never die, I will just dissolve into a cloud of worry and float around the universe forever. That’s probably why I stayed with a corporate job for forty years and never tried to do something more creative or lucrative.

It’s still way too early in the season to make this prediction, but here goes... Patriots, Chiefs, Texans, Ravens win their divisions. Bills, Colts, Raiders, Browns will be fighting for wild cards.

They were within field goal range early in the game and they went for it in fourth down. They didn’t make it. In my opinion at the time, they were taking unnecessary risks for the sake of a touchdown versus a field goal. I wouldn’t take that risk in the first quarter. So in that circumstance they were being aggressive, whereas you are pointing out that they are too passive.

Today he played conservatively, slid, threw the ball away, and won. He had nice touch on many of his shorter throws. Long throws weren’t part of the game, and that has been part of his skill set that needs work. Jury is still out. In general, I’m more optimistic that he is finally learning to take what’s available, and that trying to be a hero can and/or will backfire.

I briefly had the screen name “Just a Guy” when there was a mixup due to an email SNAFU. Because of that email SNAFU, I actually still have two screen names: Graybeard and Gray Beard. I can’t use Graybeard anymore because it is tied to a defunct email and I don’t remember the password. Not to be confused with Greybeard, who is somebody completely different.

It’s actually pretty common for a QB to play it safe until the fourth quarter. Just like a coach should usually avoid risky strategies like going for it on fourth down or going for the two point conversion until the fourth quarter. That’s similar to the mentality that Josh should have. He’ll figure it out, or wash out. Time will tell. Personally, I have faith that he will figure it out. Remember Fitzmagic/Fitztragic? He would play smart for three quarters, and then start taking risks if a comeback was needed. Sometimes it would work... Fitzmagic Sometimes it would fail... Fitztragic Fitz had the elusiveness but he didn’t have the arm strength or accuracy required for a lot of those heroic plays. Josh has the elusiveness and the arm strength, and the accuracy is a work n progress.
