  1. Allowing priests to be married would be the best thing they could do. I think that many priests are hiding something. Sexual, alcohol, or other problems. If priests were allowed to be married, a larger pool of candidates would become available, and the ones with problems could be weeded out without fear of reducing the ranks as much.
  2. I believe that the vast majority of the priests are good people who truly believe and want to help. It’s a shame that suspicion and callousness has caused people to paint them all as tainted. Personally, I have had a hard time with the rules and rituals for a long, long time. That has turned me away from organized religion more than the scandals.
  3. I feel like so many institutions that I grew up respecting are failing dramatically. Church, government, schools, health care, and infrastructure (and probably others) are all in trouble. Usually it’s due to greed and avarice. I don’t know where things are heading, but it’s not good. I was raised Catholic, but my family was pretty informal about it. My wife’s family is hard core. It seems weird to me. I’m surprised that so many priests and bishops looked the other way and hoped it would all just go away. Totally contradicts everything they’re supposed to stand for.
  4. If loving you is wrong I don't wanna be right If being right means being without you I'd rather live a wrong doing life Your mama and daddy say it's a shame It's a downright disgrace Long as I got you by my side I don't care what your people say
  5. I wonder, wonder who, who-oo-ooh, who Who wrote the book of love Tell me, tell me, tell me Oh, who wrote the Book Of Love I've got to know the answer Was it someone from above I wonder, wonder who, mmbadoo-ooh, who Who wrote the Book Of Love
  6. I found the Amy Schumer reference... I think it was supposed to be funny. I think it was meant as a joke. Oops.
  7. Rosie O’Donnell. (That would be too easy and therefore can’t be correct)
  8. Girl, you're lookin' so good tonight And every guy has got you in his sights What you're doin' with a clown like me? It's got to be one of life's little mysteries So tonight I'll ask the stars above How did I ever win your love, yeah What did I do, what did I say To turn your angel eyes my way?
  9. I am the entertainer I come to do my show You've heard my latest record It's been on the radio Ah, it took me years to write it They were the best years of my life It was a beautiful song But it ran too long If you're gonna have a hit You gotta make it fit So they cut it down to 3:05
  10. Reese’s cliche commercial made me laugh at the end. Not really much of a commercial, but I laughed.
  11. I’m trying to watch Super Bowl pregame. They like to have Erin Andrews on the screen. Talk about annoying nasal voice and totally over rated! I change the channel to avoid her.
  12. I always enjoyed watching the Swiss Miss.
  13. I opened this thread with high hopes of seeing a unique \GoBillsInDallas/ interpretation of tennis stats. Oh man...
  14. I want Brady to gouge some team badly enough that they can’t pay for a supporting cast, especially OLine. I think BB knows that is a risk and that’s one reason why he won’t be happy about it if the pats pay to keep him.
  15. @Pasta Joe I’ll give you credit for involving both sides of the political spectrum. In this case, I may have to burn my iPad to avoid any residual contamination.
  16. Have the number of hazing accidents increased in the last 10-20 years, or has national awareness of them increased? How much responsibility should be shared by parents, high schools, college admission, or any other group that can provide warnings to kids who might consider pledging? I believe parents should be aware of the dangers and take the lead on informing and educating their kids, but perhaps parents are naively ignorant of the dangers. Perhaps parents naively think their kids are smarter than that. I also believe that the frat members know what happened (duh). A code of silence is protecting the people who organized the trip to the gorge. I would shut down that frat in a heartbeat. Should there be be a requirement for video cameras and/or adult chaperones? That would be too much of a hindrance to the level of hedonism and debauchery that would be considered “acceptable“. When my my son went to college and was on the football team, I warned him about the initiation he was likely to encounter. I told him they are going to get you drunk (under age), bring you to strip joints, get you lap dances, and other stuff like that. (A D3 school so I wouldn’t have expected anything too elaborate). A few days later he called me and said I was just about 100% correct in my prediction
  17. I live in a 3 bed, 2 bath ranch, but it’s built on a hill. The garage and laundry are in the basement. My wife reminds me at least once a week that we can’t live here as we get older (we’re in our 60s now). Depending on when her parents pass (they live 1 mile away), we will likely move to get closer to our grandchild (grandchildren? ?) someday.
  18. He's the hairy-handed gent who ran amuck in Kent Lately he's been overheard in Mayfair You better stay away from him He'll rip your lungs out, Jim I'd like to meet his tailor Aaoooooo Werewolves of London
  19. My son is looking for a house that is less than 1/2 hour commute, is in a more than ok school district (just ok is not ok), doesn’t need much work, has a little bit of privacy, has two bathrooms, has parking for two cars side by side, and preferably has a two car garage. Good luck. That’s what everybody wants. The problem with a house that needs work is that there’s no good way to pay for it. How do you buy a house and then have $30K to $50K left over for renovations?
  20. The stars won't come out if they know that you're about Cause they couldn't match the glow of your eyes And, oh, who am I ? Just an ordinary guy Tryin hard to win me first prize
  21. It’s different because a few years ago the prices were noticeably lower and houses sat on the market for a few weeks, even in the hot areas. My son recently bid $5K over the asking price on a house that was only on the market for a few days, and he didn’t get it. That’s a new phenomenon around here to my knowledge.
  22. I saw the Stones 30 years ago in Syracuse and at the time we were discussing how good they were for a bunch of middle age guys.
  23. Good advice is to dress appropriately for your next job, not your current job. Right before I retired I considered going to work in sweatpants and a bathrobe, but I chickened out.
  24. My son was looking at houses in the Utica area last year (not in the city, but in some of the surrounding towns). It’s a sellers’ market, and house prices have risen noticeably over the past couple of years. Houses are going for more than asking price and are selling in a matter of days. He gave up. He thought he could get a starter house (small 3 bedroom ranch) for under $200K but now it looks like it’s about $250K for anything decent. Now he’s decided that he doesn’t want to be in the Utica area long enough to bother buying a house, so he stopped looking. That’s a common attitude. Forty years ago I was sure I wouldn’t be in the Utica area very long. Note... Utica area is significantly cheaper than other Central NY areas like Syracuse, Rochester or Albany.
