Bills to acquire Tarvaris Jackson
Gray Beard replied to VIVA BUFFALO CABRONES!'s topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I like the decisiveness. When Nix and Gailey realized that Trent Edwards was a bad choice, they benched him and then traded him. Now it seems as though they have realized that Thigpen and Young are bad choices, so they are doing something about it. I don't agree with everything this leadership does, but I am impressed that they are making moves based on performance concerns. -
rothlesberger blames bills field for decastro injury
Gray Beard replied to truth on hold's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
My son tore his ACL playing on field turf in college. His cleats were too long, and his foot wouldn't twist. For field turf, cleats must be very short. -
Bills 2010 Draft... really terrible
Gray Beard replied to HeHateMe's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Toward the end of the season last year when Spiller had more responsibility, it seemed like he started to figure out that +2 is better than -2, and he couldn't rely on his ability to out run the defense around the end like he could in college. I am curious to see how he looks this season. If he reverts to dancing behind the line and running sideways, I will be truly disappointed. -
Roosevelt vs Martin (vs Easley)
Gray Beard replied to JÂy RÛßeÒ's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Hagan has Roosevelt beat in terms of speed. Does Graham make Hagan expendable? Martin has Roosevelt beat in terms of size, and a track record of toughness and special teams play. Roosevelt's ability to catch has Martin beat. Roosevelt has put on weight and wants to play on special teams. Roosevelt is also willing to run those suicide slant routes that result in a receiver getting clobbered by a linebacker a few times per game. Tough call. I have a feeling that Roosevelt gets cut, even though from my armchair it seems like he is more useful than Martin. -
Leodis Shines as Nickel CB
Gray Beard replied to Maury Ballstein's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I have high hopes for him as nickel back. When he was in the game for all downs, i think that perhaps he was overwhelmed by all the schemes and responsibilities. By limiting him to specific applications, I think he will have a chance to just play without thinking too much. Didn't I read somewhere that Wanny was in favor of letting the players use their own judgement a little more rather than scripting how they are supposed to react? I think I like that philosophy, but time will tell. -
The Best Mustache in NFL History
Gray Beard replied to Billsrhody's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I know they are the despised Dolphins, but this picture came to mind when I saw the topic. And don't forget Csonka's finger -
Interesting summary statement for a guy named Never Wrong. In this case, I think you are right.

Annoying "NFLSpeak". Mine is "no question".
Gray Beard replied to OCinBuffalo's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I have never understood why being honored is humbling, such as when a player receives an award or is voted into the Hall of Fame. That is just about the opposite of what I would expect. Are they trying to say that they might not be as worthy as some of the great players in the history of the game? That I could understand, but I don't see the word HUMBLE as an appropriate adjective in that situation. -

"Running Downhill" I think it means running straight ahead through tacklers at full speed, but I'm never quite sure... -
Why did Fitz start the last 3 games?
Gray Beard replied to Billsrhody's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
The previous year they put Brohm in when it didn't matter any more and the O-line was pretty beat up. He looked terrible, and he was released shortly thereafter. I wonder what would have happened if Thigpen had been put in under similar circumstances. -
I firmly believe this must be it for Fitz
Gray Beard replied to Toshiero's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Stevie Johnson was the first player in Bills history to have back to back 1000 yard seasons. I'm pretty sure Fitzpatrick threw most (if not all) of the passes that Stevie caught for those two years. My conclusion: Fitzpatrick doesn't suck. -
I live in the Utica area. Three hours to Buffalo, five hours to NYC. MANY more Giants and Jets fans than Bills fans in this area. Of course, being in the Bills broadcast blackout zone doesn't help (our CBS on cable comes from Syracuse, which supposedly can be received over the air close enough to Buffalo to cause them to be blacked out).

Thank You / How is Wall Imprtant To You
Gray Beard replied to millbank's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Even though I live in Upstate New York, I don't come across very many people who follow the day to day activities that impact the Bills. I go to this site to get all the latest news. I visited this site for several years before I got up the nerve to post. The intelligence and humor of most posters on this board are impressive. I often burst out laughing as I read the posts, and my wife has gotten used to me saying that I just read something funny on this board. She just rolls her eyes. -
What is the BIGGEST camp battle? Surprise cuts?
Gray Beard replied to DukeyBomb's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Jones seems to get more playing time than some of the others. I think Roosevelt and Aiken are goners. It's kind of a shame since Roosevelt is a Buffalo guy, and Aiken looked good in pre-season last year, but there are too many guys competing for a limited number of roster spots. Oh, and Brad Smith is available as a back-up if necessary. -
Isn't it common to have an O lineman as a captain? Fitz and Wood makes sense to me (assuming Wood stays healthy). Wasn't Wood the guy who called out Maybin when he as getting cocky in training camp? I think Wood makes sense as a guy with leadership ability.

Cool photos of the Bills through the years......
Gray Beard replied to WotAGuy's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
It took me a few seconds to figure out that the "helmet warmer" was actually Kelso's extra padding on his helmet. Long live the Great Gazoo! It looked goofy but at least he realized that repeated concussions were not something to take lightly. I just wonder who writes this stuff, and it's no surprise that so many other captions are a little off. -
What were the Best Seats at a Event Personally
Gray Beard replied to millbank's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Don't know if this counts... Late 1970's (1977 or 1978) The Talking Heads at a nightclub in Hampton Beach, NH The Cars at a nightclub in Boston. Front row both times. "Long ago and far away and so much better than it is today" -Meatloaf, Paradise by the Dashboard Lights -
Spin, Spin, Spin (Kelly out of context)
Gray Beard replied to Hapless Bills Fan's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
People trying to create controversy with sound bites taken out of context is what passes for journalism for many media outlets these days. Perhaps it is an unfortunate side effect of the internet driven motivation to create something new 24/7. The play calling is something that I am looking forward to this season. I am not sold on Chan as an offensive mastermind. He seemed reluctant to change his game plan as the injuries mounted and Fitz's play started to decline last season. Will he be more open to running the ball, now that he knows he has at least two stud running backs? Will he allow the running threat to set up play action and a few surprise plays? I hope so, but I am mentally preparing myself to be disappointed. -
Sorry for your loss. Those drawings reflect a past before photoshop and other computer enhancements. Back then it was all about the true talent of the artist, and obviously your father had some tremendous talent. He had an amazing ability to think up the ideas and then draw them so well. I'm sure you have many wonderful memories, and those will be with you forever. I lost my dad a few years ago, so I say this from first hand experience.

John Clayton has given us his AFC East Forecast...
Gray Beard replied to Van_phelaN1's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I agree. Every year there are people who predict that the Patriots* house of cards will crumble. Maybe this year it will finally happen. I am not sure that I have the nerve to predict that it will, but I am leaning towards a definite maybe.
